Understanding my potential needs based on my prior history.
My experience with my last office visit was not very good. I waited over a half hour in the waiting room and then waited more in the doctors office after an hour total wait my appointment was canceled due to all the staff leaving, and the doctor was unable to perform the appointment very dissatisfied because I missed work. And had to reschedule due to lack of staff in the office, leaving the doctor by himself, which he was unable to perform the visit.
Dr. Speer takes time to explain test results and issues thoroughly and in a way that is understandable. He is focused on my health, is compassionate and is receptive to answering all questions, some of which I am sure are very basic. His nurse was also friendly and caring. Rebecca is a pleasure to work with and is always willing to follow up on questions outside my appointments.
I'm a 49 year old woman, w/ 3 amazing grown children!, a disabled vet (Marines), with PP Multiple Sclerosis and recently got promoted to Hospice. Dr. Spear and his entire staff were extremely knowledgeable and very patient with me, as it can take me quite a bit of time to just get one simple thought out. Highly blessed to have a new GI Dr. I know I'm able to trust.
Ben Lee Thompson|||thurd for sleeping pills for Ben Lee Thompson MD bring now help me for. A bottle pills?
Have seen Dr. Speer several times over the last ten years, most recently twice. Not sure what is going on with him, but after my first EGD he told my wife and I he did not do ANY biopsies due to too much inflammation (Barret's Esophagus). Several days later when I read the patient portal, he stated in his notes he did 2 biopsies. Put me on meds for 3 months and went back for a follow-up EGD to see if the inflammation had gone down. After the procedure, when I asked him about the inflammation and Barret's Esopagus he found last time and biopsies he did, he had no clue what I was talking about. He said, let me look in your record and says, oh yea everything looked good. Sorry, but as a patient this is when I lost confidence in him. Cancelled my follow up with him and will find another gastro doc who at least knows why a patient who is returning for their follow-up before doing the procedure. Nothing personal against him at all, but not the quality of healthcare I want to receive. Nice. friendly guy, but that's not the reason to give him a good rating.
ZERO STARS!!! Will likely find a different doctor after this experience. His practice has been bought and sold at least twice now. It's almost impossible to get a human on the phone. Had to make an appt with a PA, just to get in reasonably soon. (After an ER visit for intentional infection, and I'm a chemo patient.) They messed up orders, which prohibited me from getting help I needed quickly. They should have sent IV hydration orders in, and didn't, then found out all messages about it were going to a voicemail for someone who was out of the office. Took me four days to get in for fluids. They should have also electronically ordered over 10 blood and stool tests, which they handed to me, and I had to figure out where and how to get them. That delayed getting them....but weeks later, I still don't have results. WORST part is, I went in for procedures at the center with Dr. Speers. He and surgical staff are excellent. The admitting staff is terrible. They refused to use my mediport saying 'oh well, you're going to have a bruise,' no big deal....on my ONE good arm, due to having an IV infiltration and damage on the other, so my other arm can't be used for IV or blood pressure. BUT no big deal to them, to refuse to use the mediport and put the IV in my dominant hand. I do not EVER want to go to that clinic again. Non-compassionate, they treat people like cattle going through their system. Absolute disregard for my request to use the mediport. And WHY? Is it because a mediport kit costs $5 more than an IV kit? They get you alone and vulnerable in the back and bully patients. She told me she was going to check my veins, and before I knew it, she started IV. They had the anesthesiologist talking to me at the same time, and I now think it's part of their tactic to deal with patients that want something done in a different way than they want. Only giving 1 star because it seems I HAVE to.
Listens well, is very throrough.
My wife went to him in mid February for nausea and vomiting. He performed an endoscopy. In the results meeting the day of the endoscopy he gave the result which was negative. He then setup a digestive test for a couple of weeks later in early March. To this day, April 22, we have not heard the result of that test from him. We called several times and he still has not called back. I had to take the wife to the emergency room for the same symptoms in early April because she couldn't eat or keep anything down. The emergency room doctor put her on an IV and ordered a CT scan of the stomach area and found massive cancer on her left kidney. That was causing the nausea and vomiting. He immediately admitted her to the hospital and after more tests from a specialist the decision was made to remove the kidney. We still have not heard from Dr. Speer or his office! He is irresponsible and flippant!! I am in contact with 2 Attorneys. Also, I am filing a complaint with the Medical Review Board.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
