List of Wafik Makary's Reviews
I was saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Makary. When my family and I arrived in Volusia County, Fl., back in 1991, Our 17 year old son, Jay, had just received a double lung transplant at the University of North Carolina. We searched unsuccessfully, at first, to find a doctor who would take on a patient with Cystic Fibrosis and and a Double Lung Transplant. But then we met Dr. Makary. Dr. Makary had expeience with both conditions that Jay was diagnosed and treated for, he quelled our fears and took on the responsibility of being Jay's primary care doctor. Dr Makary was knowledgeable, considerate, calming, and a wonderful doctor. Jay was in good hands. Jay went on to get married, become a father, and a productive person in his life career. Jay moved away to another area of Florida and is happy, healthly, and successful. I attibute so much to Dr. Makary. I am not sure what situations might have developed without the care and guidance of Dr. Makary. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and staff!
Dr Makary is truly a loving, kind, intelligent man. He was my doctor for 20 years. I too had much difficulty with his staff. I just today called his office every 15 minutes for two hours that they were open. I needed my medical records sent to a specialist. AGAIN!!! Same lousy staff, no answer, they don’t care! His assistant Laura was awesome but she retired. Poor Dr Makary what is he to do with no good help....I keep him in my daily prayers. His staff should be ashamed of themselves.
Kind, loving and personable.... makes you feel like family.... as well as being a very good doctor
I tried to make an appointment and the lady on the phone said she can't hire people and take new patients. It was a very weird interaction and heart breaking that they will lose business...or maybe it doesn't matter to them.
Dr. Makary is one of the smartest people I've ever met. He is very knowledgeable and has a comforting bedside manner. His staff is friendly and very accomodating. I'm very happy to have him as my MD.
I used Dr. Makary’s office for 3 years. Generally only saw him for my annual and never really had a problem. Until this time. I set my appointments for the next annual the day of my last one (a year in advanced) they called me THE day of my appointment at 8:30 trying to change the time to two hours earlier and to call them back. I did but their answering service was on. I called up to 30 minutes AFTER they opened until their answering service was finally off. They wouldn’t let me keep my original appointment and made me reschedule for the following week at 9:45. Fast forward a week and they call me Thursday at 3:15 to tell me that my appointment is at 9:15 and I needed to call them back to confirm. Well, I work until 5:45 Mon-Thur so I called them back in between customers at 4:45 but because they’re closed their answering service was on. Again, I called the morning of my appointment at 9:01, 9:02, and 9:03 (but their answering service was still on, again, after they were open) trying to confirm my appointment before I just drove there to check. Upon arrival I told them I was there to check if my appointment was at 9:45 or 9:15 because I had 9:45 written down but they had said 9:15 in a voicemail. In which the doctor told me they couldn’t see me TODAY either because I hadn’t gone to get my labs done. I told him I didn’t even know I had to get labs done. He then told me the office had been trying to reach me. I told him they only called me yesterday to confirm a wrong appointment time not to tell me about blood work. He then told me AGAIN that they had done their job and tried to reach me. That it was my fault that I didn’t answer. I told him that I work until after 5 Mon-Thurs and didn’t get their voicemail from yesterday until after they closed and he still insisted it was my fault and that they did their job. He then asked if I had the blood work paper at home and I told him I never received one and reiterated that I DID NOT KNOW that I needed blood work done this time. He then told me I was being difficult for standing up for myself. It continued to escalate until I told him that I truly did not need him as a physician and would find another. And he confirmed that I should just find another physician. I still have no clue how any of this was my fault considering I rescheduled when I shouldn’t have had to, was given two different times for an appointment, and was never told I needed the blood work done before the appointment. All I do know is this is NOT how a business is run. Would never recommend him to any of my friends or family
The best doctor
Fortunately, I didn't get a chance to find out about is Makary a good doctor. The process of adding me as a new patient ended with Makary's rude suggestion for me quot "To find another physician". After that they just hung up on me. Everything happened after I tried to find out why my adding as a new patient wasn't completed after 3 weeks!
I have been seeing Dr. Makary for about 5 years now. My previous Dr. was one who did not get too involved in my overall health. I would visit he would do the quick check and give me a prescription if warranted and I was quickly out the door. I had asked this Dr. about a breathing some pain in my shoulder and he said it was just arthritis and get used to it. I asked once about a breathing problem and he said it was nothing to be concerned about (this is my previous Dr). Since switching to Dr. Makary, I have to say my overall health has greatly improved. Dr Makary actually takes time to find out what's gong on with me. He had MRI and ultrasounds done to find out about the pain in my shoulder. Turns out I had strained some ligaments in my rotator and he helped me get that taken care of. As far as my breathing, he did a routine check of my sinuses and then referred me to a specialist right away (not sure why others say he won't). Turned out I had severe sinus Polyps and my specialist was great at taking care of that also. Dr. Makary has been great at helping me get my overall health in control. When my blood pressure spiked, he was quick to react and help me get that in control. Overall, I feel he is a Dr. that cares about my health and won't just see me and send me out the door. I guess some people prefer to have a Dr. that's not going to actually try to help you get healthy.
Dr. Makary lacks the professionalism one expects from a physician. I made the mistake of questioning Dr. Makary concerning a routine blood test. He abrasively scolded me and would not allow me to get a word in. I tried to interrupt him several times to explain he had misunderstood my intent, but it was impossible. I was so belittled I sat there in shock until he finished his tirade. He is no longer my physician.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
