It's been awhile back, but my son was cared for by Dr. Allison Messina on a few occasions. We were typically seen by another ID specialist, so I was hesitant to deal with a new doc when she initially consulted in the ER on my sons case. She quickly allayed my concerns though. She's knowledgable, compassionate and straight forward (and a fine keyboardist to boot). We also felt heard and respected. She considered our input and concerns regarding a treatment plan and worked out a course of meds that was effective and well designed for us. We are fond of several docs in this ID group @ ACH. No Diva's. Just sharp, sensible, trustworthy physicians who truly have a heart for kids. Wish all docs were wired this way!

Allison Messina slammed the phone down on another physician when the GP called to ask her about lyme disease because their patient was CDC positive for lyme disease, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae. Allison Messina said there is no lyme disease in Florida even though Florida is endemic for lyme disease. The pediatric infectious disease physicians are making up other diagnoses because they do not want to treat a child with lyme disease. You should not trust these physicians. Please look elsewhere for expertise on infectious diseases.

Visiting some doctors is like going to a drive-thru. Visiting Dr. Messina is like a sit-down restaurant. She was wonderful in that she discussed everything with me, answered all questions, looked at xrays and MRIs together, was very patient with this distraught mother.
