When the doctors at Comprehensive Hematology and Oncology say they deliver compassionate cancer care, that’s not just a marketing slogan, that’s the honest truth. My opinion of oncologists was polluted, sadly, by the first oncologist I was referred to by my primary care office. Not only was the treatment center unsanitary. I found the doctor and his staff to be without compassion or empathy, not only toward myself but to patients already in treatment. When we left that office, my husband and I spontaneously both said “Big NO!” Unfortunately, when I told my PCP I would not be treated there, she told me she had no other options to offer me but a referral to palliative care. In other words, be treated by that oncologist or die. At the time, I knew nothing about cancer care. I didn’t know enough to call my insurance provider and ask for help. So my treatment was delayed for a year, and cancer grew, until I was hospitalized for related issues. When my surgeon asked why I was not in treatment, I told him about my unfortunate experience. He said “Let me introduce you to an option I highly recommend.” Shortly after, Dr. Makani came into my hospital room. The minute I met her, I knew I would do whatever she recommended. She radiated compassion, and demonstrated extensive experience. She explained her treatment approach and answered all my questions with great patience and in patient-friendly language. Dr. Makani is Havard-trained and later taught at Harvard. She is currently a leading physician/ scientist and clinical medical research director of interventional clinical trials dedicated to improving cancer care by advancing research and creating medical innovation. I trusted her immediately and under her care, I have been healing rapidly and have no doubt I will have a complete recovery. If you have been seeking both a high level of care as well as compassion, I highly recommend Dr. Makani and her entire staff.

I had my first infusion there the other day and I can't say enough about how friendly and compassionate the nurses are that work there, my nurse was Tracy and she is such a Sweetheart! ☺️

Excellent experience! Dawn made me feel comfortable and made this 'nervous Nellie' feel relaxed during my infusion. I was expecting the worst and had a totally outstanding experience.
