Saved my sons life. He's 2 and doing great now. I am forever grateful.
Saved our daughter’s life. Couldn’t say enough wonderful things about a doctor they was patient, caring and knowledgeable.
Dr. Kays is a lifesaver. During my wife's pregnancy in November of 2019, our unborn son was diagnosed with CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia = hole in the diaphragm) during a routine unltrasound. As we live in southwestern Illinois, we were referred to a nearby nationally top ranked hospital for treatment. The doctors and staff there were great, but the probability of mortality at birth was estmated to be 60% - 70% as he had a severe case of CDH with his lung capacity being less than 8% of a normal healthy baby's due to his abdominal organs invading his chest cavity and compressing his lungs and shifting his heart to the right side. After digesting this bad news, we had a meeting with one of the pediatric surgeons at this St. Louis hospital and asked tough questions, and received direct and honest answers, which included that they call Dr. Kays when they have questions/problems with CDH babies they're treating. This St. Louis surgeon (who we were considering having treat our unborn child) also told a story about Dr. Kays, who while at an airport getting ready to board a plane to go on a family vacation, received a phone call from his staff (at Johns Hopkins' All Children's Hospital) that one of his CDH babies had taken a turn for the worse. Rather than boarding the plane, Dr. Kays went to the hospital to treat the child, and missed his flight. This was all I needed to hear to convince me that we had to get to Florida to let Dr. Kays treat my unborn son. So, I moved my wife to Florida, Dr. Kays managed the prenatal care and birth, then masterfully did surgery when Jack was 6 days old. After being in the NICU for 2 months, Jack was discharged home, and now, more than a year later, he is a growing, happy, healthy baby boy without any residual problems from CDH. Not only is Dr. Kays a master at managing the complexities of CDH and the preeminent authority on treating CDH, he is a kind, caring and humble man who has saved thousands of babies, including my baby Jack. You will not find a better doctor than Dr. Kays.
Dr. Kays and his team are amazing! Only place in the world I would go to treat CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia).
Dr Kay’s saved our baby girl’s life. He comes with an amazing team of other doctors and nurses. Dr Kay’s truly cares about his patients and will go to any measure to help them have the best life possible
Dr. Kay's is definitely am expert when it comes to pediatric surgery. All children's hospital is just as amazing as he is! My daughter had a pectus repair done by inserting a bar into her chest by Dr Kay's. The experience and follow ups were stress free. He repaired my daughter's chest that has given her more confidence and beauty. Now three years later it is being removed. He is so personable and an excellent surgeon! We love Dr.Kays and trust no one else. Him and hits staff as well as the employees at John Hopkins All Children's Hospital have been wonderful! We will miss you all... that includes even the cafeteria staff and janitors. Everyone is helpful and sweet!
He is the best doctor for CDH babies around the world! /El mejor doctor en el mundo para tratar niños con hernias diafragmaticas congénitas
Dr. Kays is an expert, and in my opinion, the best surgeon in the United States, for the treatment of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. He is not only knowledgable, skilled, and gifted, but he is also personable, kind, and approachable. He will give you a hug and then save your baby's life against all odds. He gives hope where no hope is given elsewhere and remains positive. UF/Shands is a wonderful hospital with skilled and caring nurses and staff. My baby was there 60 days and received exceptional care.
Dr Kays Saved my sons life back in December of 1994 Christmas Eve, He stayed with him day and night, thru New Years and the Holidays, I will NEVER forget him, He is an Angel sent from above. Thank you Dr Kays, Dillon is 15 now and he's the best son a father could ask for. God Bless You.
He saved my daughters life. He is not only a great doctor but an awesome individual. I would put anyone I love in the care of Dr. Kays.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
