My experience I had been very bad. For a 2 o clock appointment, you will not be seen until after 3:15 or later. What’s the use of an appointment? Highly inefficient place.
Just called to make an appoint with Dr Carlan. I spoke with Robert over the iPhone. He could not have been more rude and condescending…….Not sure I will give Dr Carlan a try with that kind of office staff and customer service…..
I was so impressed with the success of my double carpal tunnel surgery performed by Dr. Carlan. His staff was also amazing and explained everything from beginning to my follow up appointment. Heather, his PA and Robert are very professional. I also want to put a shout out to the outpatient surgery center in Carillon Parkway in Feather Sound. The nurses were friendly and facility was immaculate. Dr. Carlan performed a carpal tunnel surgery along with a trigger finger surgery on my right hand and a carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand. All three surgeries were performed together at the same time. The anesthesiologist only put me under for just a few minutes until they could numb my hands. I woke up minutes later and was awake during the entire surgeries. I had a very pleasant conversation with the nurses and the doctor, during the surgery. The incisions were very small and they have healed nicely. Three days after the surgery, I was allowed to remove the hand wraps, and take a shower. I went back to the gym to Zumba classes within a week, and it’s only been two weeks now since surgery and I am almost back to normal. No cast, needed. I would highly recommend Dr. Carlan, his staff, and the outpatient facility.
The office was packed on a Wednesday morning at 10 am. Easily a dozen people waiting ahead of me. Was out of network. $150 copay. Doctor walked in exactly one hour late. Received 5 minutes with the doctor. Did not make eye contact once, was very skeptical of everything I said and why his treatment (a corticosteroid shot) is contraindicated with my disability, which he was ignorant of and I tried to educate him on. Here's why Dr. Carlan. I have a disability called FQAD - fluoroquinolone associated disability. It's when a certain class of antibiotic permanently weakens your connective tissue. As you well know, or should know, steroids also weakens your connective tissue. I am at a much lower threshold for tendon rupture for life now, and steroids put added strain on your tendons and joints. Dr. Carlan seems to be very jaded and condescending if you're not one of the professional athletes he's fixed. His nurse or assistant was very pushy and prejudicial about my medications and why I need them. One of his receptions is extremely rude and aggressive over the phone. Just a total mess of an office. Multiple other reviews complaining about this. At least he ordered an MRI so I could take the results to a better doctor. He might be a great surgeon, but I went elsewhere because everything before surgery was a hassle.

Do not go here, go somewhere else. Went to Dr. Carlan for tingling in my fingers on my left hand in August 2019. Diagnosed with ulnar nerve compression and recommended ulnar nerve decompression surgery. He said that I could go to a neurologist for further evaluation, but recommended that I didn't need to. At various visits he kept repeating the story of the one woman who said the surgery didn't help, she stopped coming, but then showed up 3 years later for something else and said the surgery worked when I asked about any adverse effects. The surgery made it worse. Now I have tingling on the side of my palm that has not improved from my surgery in November 2019. He had me keep coming back to see if it improved. Did you know that after 90 days since the surgery, office visits are no longer included under the surgery fee? When I asked him if he ever had a patient where it was worse he said "I can't remember every patient." He had me come back for another office visit where he would send me to a neurologist. He also told me that my scar would be on the back of my elbow. It's not, it's to the side. I blame myself for not looking that information up. My scar also spread apart and has "railroad tracks." It looks hideous and I'm glad I can't see it. I found out that scars do that if stitches are not taken out right away, within a few days. His office booked the followup appointment a week later. Everything West L. and Vadym T. said about waiting are true. The office books 4 people for each appointment time. On my last appointment before I walked away, I was tired of waiting and got the 8 AM appointment. I saw 3 other people get checked in before me by the time the receptionist called me at 8:30 AM to check me in. We all had 8 AM appointments. I have waited an hour + for him to see me for 5 minutes. It's ridiculous. And since, I'd have to pay a $65 copay to do so. I told them to cancel my appointment and I walked out. I also want to mention a comment he made to me during a pre-surgery office visit where I was insulted. I went to Washington University for undergraduate and saw he had done a fellowship there, so I brought it up to make small talk. He also knew I was a librarian (something you need to get your Master's degree for). Washington University is not cheap. He said "How do you feel paying for Washington University on a librarian's salary?" (direct quote) How I paid for my undergraduate education is none of his business.
Dr. Carlan came highly recommended by cycling friends of mine to treat my carpal tunnel numbness. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment with the required paperwork completed, was escorted into a room at 1pm which was my appointment time. His PA came in and asked me a few questions and said the doctor would be right in. Over an hour later, with no updates on how much longer it would be, I walked out to the front desk and asked what was going on. Their attitude was very arrogant and dismissive. Robert's attitude was "there's the door". I asked if this type of wait is normal and was told it could be depending on patient questions. I then said "Then you have a scheduling problem". No apologies were offered or extended. This is just another example of a doctor who thinks nothing of the value of his patient's time; only his has any value and we should wait ridiculous amounts of time to be in his presence. Over an hour with no updates is unacceptable. If any of my friends ask me for a reference, I will tell them to stay away from this doctor and his surly, unprofessional office staff.
I recently moved to Gulfport and needed to get established with a hand surgeon. Dr. Carlan was recommended and I couldn’t be more pleased with office staff and Dr. Carlan, extremely personable and up front!!
Today I got my bad experience with this 'specialist'. I have waited for 1 hour in their office: I have arrived 15 minuted before the scheduled time, did the paperwork and then spent another 45 minutes in the queue. Then, I was invited and immediately X-Ray was suggested. I asked, may I talk to doctor first - I was not sure that the problem with my knee is related to bone or joint, it can be the bunch, too, therefore, I suggested that in that case the X-Ray procedure might be useless, and avoided. I explained that, an assistant of X-Ray procedure got my point, and he gone to the cabinet to ask about this possibility. Couple seconds later a doctor's assistant (she did not introduced herself, and she had no badge) appeared and started to attack me, like, if I declined to do the X-Ray procedure, the doctor wouldn't to observe me. I asked few questions about their X-Ray device and the radiation level, and explained why it is important to me to control the radiation doze. Her reaction was non-adequate, she got mad, her tone was categorical like I'm not a patient but a pet who made poo on her carpet. She told me impolitely to leave the cabinet and wait in the hall. It seemed that she looked for a conflict. I was confused. My money were refunded, no excuses, no sorries. I lost 2 weeks of awaiting for this visit, I lost time in the queue, I lost my mood. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM! There are other doctors who have more respectful behavior towards to their patients.
Dr. Carlan performed semi-emergency surgery on my hand a few years ago and did an amazing job. Dr. Eaton treated my knee and is a get-to-it doctor that makes you feel like he genuinely wants you to feel better. Both are possibly the nicest doctors I have ever met. Their staff is equally nice which is probably a reflection of working for the nicest doctors on the planet.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
