List of Scott Andrews's Reviews
Best Dr. Still cannot find one that I like nearly as much since he left NYC.
I've never felt so strongly about such great service! below are my reasons for absolutely never wanting another doctor again: + He's very personable and makes you feel easy about telling him everything. He does this by default with no effort. + There are no receptionists that are rude to you and ask you embarrassing questions when you are trying to make an appointment. ACTUALLY THERE ARE NO RECEPTIONISTS AT ALL; YOU ALWAYS DEAL WITH DR. SCOTT! + He uses email / Gmail! He responds promptly to any questions/requests for appointment via email. No going through a voice system or back and forth with a receptionist. He is flexible and you are chatting directly with him!!! + He is the most thorough doctor I have ever had. Takes copious notes when speaking with you. Notes down and remembers everything. + Only doctor I've ever had that has actually carefully shown me the labeled bottle and untampered cap before giving me an injection. -Ric Soares
I went to Dr. Andrews in the spring for the first time for a routine physical. I got a good bill of health, except he told me I had high blood pressure. About a month later, I had this severe pain in my left leg, so I made an appointment to see him. After waiting about 15 minutes past my scheduled time and noticing that his following appointment had already showed up, Dr. Andrews took me back to his office and apologized for the wait. I said, no problem, this is a doctor's office and that's bound to happen. He said, "I don't like it to." He took my blood pressure again (still high), and I told him that I'd tested my blood pressure at several of the machines they have in drug stores, and he said that those aren't always very reliable - makes sense, so I accept it and move on. He spent all of 5 minutes with me. It was very clear he didn't take my pain seriously at all. He didn't listen to me and rushed me out, I'm assuming because his next patient was already waiting and he doesn't like for people to wait (at the expense of my health). So without even giving me a diagnosis, he sent me to physical therapy. I went to the physical therapy twice, and it was just making things way worse. We realized I would probably need an MRi to figure out exactly what's the problem, so I emailed Dr. Andrews and asked him if he could request one for me, since he had already seen me for this problem. His response was no, he'd have to see me again. I decided not to deal with him anymore and see an orthopedic doctor. LONG story short: I got my MRI, from the orthopedic doctor, and they discovered I have a labral tear in my hip joint, which means surgery. On top of which, they discovered what they believe to be lymphoma. That's right - I might possibly have CANCER, and Dr. Andrews wanted to send me to physical therapy, without even diagnosing my problem. On top of which, I have now had my blood pressure checked at a walk-in clinic, a hospital, with an at-home test, and at several of the machines in drug stores, and the only person to find it to be high was Dr. Andrews (two times!). Something's wrong here.... I will NOT be going back to Dr. Andrews!!
I had a suspicion that some of the positive reviews for this doctor here and elsewhere were not entirely honest. They seemed too good to be true. They were. My experience exactly parallels that of Eugene K and Cynthia here. My bottomlone summary - below average med grad, completely focussed on his short term earnings, and completely lacking the maturity to establish a practice by being compassionate. I appreciate how he keeps costs (his, not mine) down by filling in for nursing and accounting staff (and incidentally that is why he responds to emails - only for appointments, not for answering any questions). I don't appreciate how he is mechanically focussed on units in which he can bill the insurance multiple times, at the expense of my time, and worse, my health. Sadly it took me several visits to be convinced that I am better of without him. I wouldnt recommend him to anyone.
After reading all the wonderful reviews on Yelp, I decided to visit Dr. Andrews to see for myself. While this was my first visit and I cannot speak to his competence as a doctor very much, I will see that I did not like the experience at all. When I scheduled my appointment through email he told me to bring my insurance card and some form of payment. I brought my debit card that has my HSA funds on it, and he was unhappy with that. Apparently he does not accept credit or debit cards. I asked if it would be alright if I mailed him a check, and he refused saying I had to pay him that very same day, and to just go and withdraw the cash. He would not give my insurance card back until I paid him. I had to go to work, pick up my checkbook and return to pay him. This guy gives you less slack than the mafia. He said, "This is nothing personal. Just business." Yes, you are right, Doc. And I'm taking my business elsewhere. That's no way to treat a customer, especially if he's a patient.
I can't express my appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Andrews enough. He is an AWESOME doctor. He has been my primary care physician for all 3.5 years that I've lived in NYC. I have recommended him to every friend and colleague that will listen to me go on an on about how great he is. Why? Here are just a few reasons: + He uses Gmail! He responds promptly to any questions/requests for appointment via email. No going through a voice system or back and forth with a receptionist. + He is the most thorough doctor I have ever had. Takes copious notes when speaking with you. Notes down and remembers everything. + Only doctor I've ever had that has actually carefully shown me the labeled bottle and untampered cap before giving me an injection. + Is just downright friendly and kind. Don't go to anyone else. If you can, see Dr. Andrews.
I hate shots and going to the doctor, so every time I need to go, it's a perpetual internal battle. I feel like I'm 12 years old and I want to throw a tantrum (and I do) every time I get sick. But then I realize that I'm an (almost) adult, and I force myself onto the subway or into a cab and just face the fact that I am indeed sick and losing the battle with the part of myself that is stubborn and scared of doctors ain't such a bad thing. Even then, I always feel better after a visit to Doctor Andrews. Doctor Andrews is the best doctor ever. He is the first consistent doctor I have seen since I've lived in New York for the past 4 years. I have been going to him for almost two years now and I was about to freak out when I changed insurance and was worried that he wasn't going to be an "in network" doctor. (Damn health care plans, but that's another story). I agree with everyone else, that he is a really nice guy and he really cares about your well-being all around. He has a really good bedside manner. He is young and friendly and he takes the time to answer questions. He is completely professional and empathetic. He is not a pill-pusher, which I greatly appreciate. Dr. Andrews' philosophy matches mine in terms of antibiotics: avoid them when you can. He also reminds me to wear my seatbelt when I take cabs. He has two offices, one uptown near Columbus Circle and another one downtown near Wall Street. His downtown office was convenient when I lived in Brooklyn. His office uptown is convenient now that I live in the UWS. He also is available by email - you can make appointments and ask him questions via email. What I also love is that rarely have I not been able to make a same day or next day appointment. He seriously rocks.
Been going to him for years (back when he was in Midtown East), and yes, he is thorough (actually takes his time), doesn't subject you to BS tests and is genuinely concerned with your health.
I LOVE Dr. Andrews! With insurance companies making it easier to switch Primary Care physicians online and sending back reasons why, I've managed to change doctors 4 times in one year until I came to Dr. Andrews. Why do we often change doctors? Lack of availability, inflexible office hours, rude front desk staff, not being seen on time, and then a quick 5-minute check after sitting in the waiting room for nearly an hour. Sound familiar? Well, I was SHOCKED when I got to Dr. Andrews' office. (I usually go to the downtown location.) The ladies at the desk were quite polite. Dr. Andrews was ready to see me immediately. He took his time asking me questions and thoroughly examining my concerns. He listens and works with you to offer the best treatment that works best for you. The last time I had such a personalized doctor's visit was when I was still going to my pediatrician! I've been with Dr. Andrews for a few years now, and he's still the best. I'd recommend him to anyone.
Alright -- who signs up for yelp and then reviews a doctor?! Well, I needed a regular physician for a physical and travel shots and looked up Dr. Scott Andrews at random from my insurance website (and looked for reviews online), and he made a great impression upon the first visit. First, he's a friendly, knowledgeable doctor who tells you what you need to know. No unnecessary tests or any runaround. Secondly, he communicates readily via email to answer simple questions and schedule appoints with you. There's no impersonal (and frankly in NYC often abrupt/rude) receptionist to go through -- it's the doctor himself! Finally he saw me promptly both times and even scheduled a same day appointment at the last minute -- all I had to do was shoot him an email in the morning and I had a reply by the afternoon that he could squeeze me in. If you're looking for a general practice doctor in the city, I definitely recommend Dr. Scott Andrews.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
