This doctor almost caused the death of my wife. I took her to the ER at Sarasota Memorial with chest pain. A scan revealed she had no thyroid glands which could cause many health symptoms, heart attack/stroke included. She had continuously gone to Dr McCarren for many months with symptoms that were destroying her quality of life. McCarren would do blood work and tell her nothing was wrong. As it turned out, we learned after the ER visit, her blood work was borderline for thyroid disease with abnormal values but McCarren had continued to insist all was normal until her immune system had destroyed her glands. McCarren then blackballed her and would not allow any other Intercoastal doctor see her as a patient. This was because she needed her referral to transfer to another one of their doctors.

This doctor is good until you have real medical issues. She ignored many months of symptoms destroying my quality of life until a scan from another location showed I had no thyroid glands. I learned the many bloodwork labs showed borderline thyroid disease but she ignored the test results that corresponded with my symptoms. She then blackballed me from seeing other Intercoastal doctors with requiring her recommendation and then refusing to recommend me to other doctors. She really wanted to hide her irresponsibility. She was a great doctor until I had an active illness she ignored.

I saw Dr McCarren for months with symptoms destroying my quality of life. She would do bloodwork and say nothing wrong. A visit to Sarasota Memorial ER one evening for chest pain and scan revealed I had no thyroid glands. All my symptoms when seeing McCarren were related to thyroid disease. She did many bloodwork tests and repeatedly told me nothing was wrong. With the ER visit, I learned those tests were borderline for thyroid disease but McCarren ignored them until my immune system had totally destroyed my glands leaving me at risks for severe illness including possible heart attack and stroke. She then blackballed me refusing to refer me to another Intercoastal doctor. It took her referral on my chart to get in as a patient with anyone else. Apparently, she was preventing other doctors from knowing how negligent she is. I became a patient of another doctor outside Intercoastal who shook his head with disgust and a comment at how McCarren messed up.

Dr McCarren ignored almost a year of severe symptoms destroying my quality of life until an ER visit. A scan revealed I had no thyroid glands. My immune system had destroyed them and this doctor ignored what I learned was borderline blood work with symptoms related to thyroid disease until I had no glands, risking a heart attack or stroke. I trusted her with my life but she failed to listen to me and failed to follow up with proper treatment with abnormal blood tests. She then blackballed me from seeing any other Intercoastal doctors with requirement she would not refer me to another Intercoastal doctor. Her way of preventing her fellow doctors from learning of her negligence. My new doctor following her shook his head and commented in disgust.

Would highly recommend Dr. McCarren. She’s lo-keyed. Not an alarmist. Thorough. Never rushes me. Always willing to address and discuss any questions and issues relating to my health. Will always recommend a specialist for another opinion if the case need be. And always responds herself by phone for any concerns.

Dr McCarren has been my Primary Doctor since 2006 when I was Diagnosed with a severe liver disorder. She saw me through many hospital stays, worked closely with my Gastroenterologist, SMH, and Tampa General through many issues which resulted in an organ transplant in 2010. She continues to be my primary Physician and I find her very knowledgeable, thorough, and a Doctor who takes time to listen to her patients.

Dr. McCarren was my doctor when I was in FL. She also was my Mom’s. She is a great doctor. Listens, caring and knowledgeable. I wish I could still see her but have left the area.

Dr McCarren is both professional and personable in her manner. Although her office seems like a very busy place, I never feel rushed by her. She addresses all problems, issues and concerns with careful consideration of all the factors involved. As an RN I am interested in the rationale behind her decisions and she always communicates it clearly. That gives me a lot of confidence in her.

She missed thyroid disease with borderline blood work and severe symptoms. ER visit from symptoms revealed glands destroyed due to her failure to diagnose. Refused to recommend me to another doctor within this group. AVOID FOR HEALTH!
