Had reverse shoulder surgery on the 27th of October 2021 a few days later the nurse kelly and therapist Josie from Horizon home health care. Came by. Couldn't ask for 2 nicer people.. they both took very good care had gotten my arm to work so I could do more.i did have kelly last year when I had a hip replacement. She is great. Josie is a very good therapist she has worked on arm so I could move it in just a short time . Thank you both . I would recommend this home health care.
On June 29, 2021. at approximately 2:00 pm, my mother was rushed by ambulance to Bayonet Point Hospital, Hudson, Florida in critical condition. The reason for being transported to the hospital stemmed from her encounter with a physical therapist(Gerardo aka Gary) from Horizons Home Health Care Agency in Springhill Florida. My mother had been previously diagnosed with an intestinal blockage, placed on a liquid diet for approx.3 days, and was able to walk and rise from bed with assistance ONLY! She was in the care of Horizon Home Care and making some progress. She was prescribed steroids to allow her bowels to pass and was responding to the treatment as she had her first movement that morning. At approximately 1:00 pm on the same date, my mother and I received a scheduled visit from the physical therapist representing Horizon Home Health Care. After a preliminary examination an extensive discussion regarding her current medical condition, the therapist attempted to have my mother get up from the bed she was lying in and walk with the aid of a walker and himself trailing. My mother quickly became exhausted and asked that she be placed back into bed. I advised the therapist that she required assistance to fully lie in a supine position. The therapist then stated to me that we should allow her to do this herself without assistance and waived my hand away when I tried to offer assistance. I insisted that she required assistance and once again I was rebutted. My mother blindly listened to the instructions given to her by a licensed physical therapist and attempted to lift her legs and torso back into bed. At this exact moment, she started to scream hysterically and cry uncontrollably. It was evident that she was experiencing a high level of distress and an exacerbated level of pain.It was at this point that I instructed the therapist not to touch my mother and to please leave the house. He refused to leave, ignoring my initial request. Instead, he attempted to raise and lower the hospital bed she was laying on it in a fruitless attempt to alleviate the excruciating pain she was experiencing. She screamed even louder when he did this but he continued to do so.(It wasn't until later that I found out from the E.R. physician at Bayonet Point that her colon had been ripped and was now poisoning her body with impacted excrement.) Three times I told the Physical therapist to leave the house and three times he ignored my directives. It was only on the fourth attempt, when I had to raise my voice and curse at him did he finally leave. All this time my mother is screaming in what must have been' hellfire' pain.I immediately called 911 and had my mother transported to Bayfront Medical in Spring Hill. She became critical while in route, and a decision was made to transport her to the nearest trauma center; Bayonet Point. I was contacted by the ER Physician who advised me of the severity of the situation and requested I sign a DNR? A D.N.R ? I was just laughing and joking with this woman at breakfast, now I'm signing a DNR for her lunch? I was in shock !! Apparently, due to the severity of the tear and the leakage of fecal matter into the abdominal cavity, her B.P. dropped and she was quickly being poisoned and rapidly decompensating. I arrived at Bayonet Point Hospital at approximately 3:30 PM only to be advised that my mother had died. I could not believe that the people I had blind trust in to render quality care are the same people who ultimately expedited her demise. I didn't even get a chance to say my goodbyes. There is no question in my mind that if the Physical Therapist never met my mother that she would still be alive today. It is only through his ineptness and incompetence that my mother met an early death. I believe this to be blatant elderly abuse precipitated through ineptness and incompetence which sadisticaly resulted in a patients death. I have contacted the proper authorities and have filed several complaints thru the state of Florida. Damn you Horizon you killed my Mom!!!
Carter Calhoun is an Excellent physical therapist! He does fantastic work, and is very gentle about it! I would recommend him to anyone who needs Physical Therapy. I had my right knee replaced on January 21, 2020. Carter has helped me exceed my own expectations in such a short amount of time.
The staff at this facilty are so very friendly and easy to work with.
I cannot overstate how grateful I am for Carter Calhoun and the Horizon Home Care Team. My mother had essentially quit trying to recover prior to Carter’s assignment to her. Demonstrating a wonderful combination of skill and compassion Carter has completely altered her outlook. She has gone from bed ridden and under nourished to active, healthy, and finally eating the supplements we tried for years to get her to eat. Despite living 12 hours away I feel like I am there rehabbing with her through the thoughtful updates Carter provides me. I do not believe there is any chance of this complete turnaround without the special efforts of Cater Calhoun. I have been a grumpy Quality Manager for 30 years supplying the pharmaceutical, dental, and food industries and am not prone to giving such high praise, but this is a place and a person that care about you. Thank you for all you have done.
WOW, I’ve never met some of the most rude and careless people. Had back surgery, horizon homecare come to my house to perform therapy. (This is the first time I’ve had to do any therapy so I wasn’t sure what to expect) the PT was very unorganized with the most important part PAPERWORK!! She forgot her tablet multiple times so there is absolutely no telling what she wrote in my daily notes. I never got to read or agree to anything, because I never seen the notes. Most days she spent 15 minuets sometimes 30 minutes. They drove personal vehicles. Honestly the more I look back an think about it they were very unprofessional.I call to get my billing info and medical records, they want a dollar per page. It’s literally 200 pages. I spoke with the “manager” her name is Kathy housel. she was the most rude person I’ve ever delt with, she hung up on me after I tried explaining the daily PT care, which wasn’t all bad things. I was polite, and to the point about what My questions an concerns were. The therapist left me with absolutely no notes or records on daily basis nor did she leave me with any notes or records when the “therapy” was over. I don’t ever leave reviews good or bad. I have other things to do with my time.Kathy Housel made me feel so disrespected and demoralized. I wish I could of recorded the conversation so other people could hear how you will be treated an talked to. I am disgusted with the attitude she gave me.It is very clear to me this place is completely about taking the money an leaving you in the dark. I would never recommend horizon homecare.
This company only cares about making an extra dollar. The amount of care my mother received was purely based on profit. The nurses didn't have supplies they needed and the frequency in which I was seen was decreased to lower the amount of care provided so they could make more money. The nurses are puppets while management determines how much care they can give under the guise of, "Medicare changes." In reality there have been changes, but that is not the reason for their shortcomings in the services given. Horizon takes cases that other companies won't because of ethical dilemmas then just provide as little care as possible to make a buck instead of serve our elders. Turns out my neighbor had the same experience.
We're not getting the care needed. Our primary care doctor is livid with the nursing care they are providing. They have ordered totally unnecessary tests that the doctor knows we don't need. There are ONLY 2 professionals there that I ever want to deal with. They're sending incompetent nurses who the first time didn't even take vitals! We've asked for the only nurse there who's competent and they can't or won't listen. Only one good PT person who's amazing.
I used this company for three months and loved the nurses and the care i received from them. Then I was readmitted to the hospital and when I was released called them to come back out because a picc line was inserted and i needed wound care. I had exhausted my home health visits thru my insurance company but due to the extend of my illness they agreed to authorize additional visits once the home health care agency sent in the paper work. I called for four days and was told they would work on it. Then my insurance company nurse in charge of my care called them an asked for the paperwork to get this done since this was considered critical due to the picc line and was told by the office that they decided to decline my care in their agency. No explanation why days of no homehealth provided and never a problem prior. My nurse at the insurance company was shocked and appalled that a company would treat a client with serious health issue like that and leave them without any care at a critical time. Since I no longer feel comfortable and safe in their care any longer i chose to have my doctor obtain another company otherwise i would have had to go back to the hospital as an inpt due to my picc line .Please do not trust this company to stick by you should things get tough they left me high and dry and potentially in danger of serious complications.
Don't know why these nurses think it's ok to upset the elderly just because they are in pain all of a sudden they need hospice. Pat maybe you need hospice.. have some compassion for people when you work for these people.
