I think Dr. Lopes needs a refresher on communication with patients. He did not perform my hernia or esophageal repair but was assigned to my follow-up care. I could have no water or ice for 20 days and existed on TPN and antibiotics. i became very thirsty. When I heard the radiologist say there was no leak from the esophagus I started water and ice since I would be seeing him the next day. He was very displeased that I had not awaited his blessing. I don't think he is very understanding. I would not recommend him.
Office is on time, surgeon exam of ventral hernia was cursory- at best. Day of surgery began with 2 hour delay- things happen. Dr Lopes decided to do laparoscopic ventral hernia repair with mesh and using DaVinci robot. Having spent 20 years giving anesthesia, I know hubby was difficult airway, MAJOR risk for anesthesia (thank God the anesthesia was excellent), wish I could say same for surgeon. He must have had a great time playing with the robot, because post-op pain was pretty intense. 2 hours post-op in recovery my husband was grey, sweaty, blood pressure 200/88 and oxygen saturation in the 80% range because his bowels were so swollen he couldn’t breathe. He had almost NO bowel sounds for 3 days, and lost 10 lbs in his first week after surgery- he was nauseous, gassy, had level 6-7 abdominal pain for over a week. Do yourself a favor with hernia repair, skip the laparoscopy AND the robot, this is a procedure a 1st year resident can perform adequately.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
