Excellent doctor but horrible staff. The last straw was in 2008 in Irvington (The last time I've been there) when my husband ear was bleeding and he had to see a specialist,the staff refuse to fax in his paper work and they told us we had to go all the way to the office to pick it up. The receptionist at our PCP was so rude they pissed the nurses off a the specialist office to the point they took mercy on us and my husband got to see the specialist in spite of. That was the reason why he's no longer our PCP. We won't go back as long as the staff is terrible.

Terrible bedside manner. He may be a fine doctor but has a lot to learn about treating people. I’ve never in my life fired a physician but he, I had to fire. I won’t get into details about what happened between us because that’s just not helpful. He seems tired of what he does for a living. I don’t know the mans heart I can only go by the fruit we bear and he just seems tired of what he’s doing. I truly hope he does better in the future and maybe my case was just a fluke

I knew Dr Altema since 1999 in Irvington, Nj. I still maintain him in Florida think about it. He is not the first MD I met but he is the best ever. Frank , Honest and knowledgeable. I will keep coming to him even if relocates out of United States

This person,(I refuse to call him a dr.) tried to dump a cancer patient from the hospital because he had no insurance. He definitely should not be in the medical field if he does not want to uphold the Hippocratic Oath he took.
