Horrible! I would never go to see this doctor again. I was shocked by his actions and diagnosis. He had no history or facts before he Baker Acted me while I was being treated for other serious medical problems. Never in my life have I been through such horror. I don't trust him or the hospital that gave him privileges either.
Horrible. I don't think he even knew I had a psychiatrist and a therapist treating me at daycare behavioral Heath for about a year. I have never had any suicidal or homicidal behavior or abused any illegal drugs. Totally bogus Baker Act ordered in me without allowing me a call to my son who is special needs in Estonia or my cousin in Wisconsin my closest relative. No one knew where I was ...... How can this be justified. I am disabled and elderly but not a danger to myself or others.
Dr Smith Appointment Review In my own personal opinion Dr. Smith is an excellent Doctor who has excellent manners, Listening skills and gave me say on my Care plan alot of Doctors say 'here's how it's going to go have a nice day'
I'm going to say this only once and one time only: Please Realize That Dr. Smith is a Psychiatric that is like no other that you will find. When I told Dr. Smith that Something wasn't working he said "well what works for me might not work for you and we might be able to go back to that medicine in 3 years that's just how weird our bodies are" I studied the human body for awhile just never became a Doctor so I Know Alot about it as well and what he is saying is actually quite true
I've been with Dr Smith for almost 7 or 8 years and I see people complaining about the wait times but what I wish they would realize is that sometimes other patients are having mental breakdowns and they need more time with him. I used to be one of those people. When I was having a bad day he would put in the extra effort to make sure im okay before I leave. So what your appointment is 30 minutes late? He was busy helping other people because he cares. I will always recommend him and im so grateful for him and his staff.
My first appt with Dr. Smith I arrived on time to make sure I get seen on time and I had to wait over half an hour to be seen because he was running late with two other appointments it seems like. My own appointment seemed super rush, it wasn’t even an hour long. Then I needed to be seen again for a possible diagnosis. I honestly prefer mornings because I work full-time and I am full-time nursing student so my schedule is packed. His only availability starts at 2PM in the middle of the day which isn’t feasible for my time and traffic. That means I have to prepare myself 2 hours prior just to make sure I arrive on time safely. This morning headed on my way there, I get a call stating that now the NP will not be attending due to being sick. I completely understand, we are all humans, but if this was the case I really wish they would have notified the night prior, even an email would suffice. Instead on my way there, while driving through traffic I am getting a call attempting to reschedule. Being a South Tampa native just to get to the other side of Tampa alone is 30 minutes or more due to how heavy traffic has gotten. I really need the help and then now being canceled is super frustrating to say the least.
Dr. Smith had me get one of the most painful psychiatric diagnoses via work email. He is regularly hours late for his telehealth appointments, then will yell at the patient for taking too long, despite clocking in at 4 minutes of 15 minutes before he starts yelling. He stopped even bothering to mute himself for background conversations the last few visits.
Dr. Smith is hours late for most appointments, and resultantly had decided that it's fine to yell at his patients because he can't manage his own time enough to have basic human decency. People who have been fighting their trauma don't deserve to be yelled at for taking too long to explain something. He doesn't care about his patients who have feminine hormonal issues. I had to get my diagnosis of BPD from a work email, because he didn't want to explain it to me. Hey, you have an incurable disease that ensures a lifetime of emotional pain, and I found that out at work and had to Google it. Also if they're not going to clean the fake ficus in the office then they should remove it. It has cobwebs and dust bunnies all over it. Not clean.
I would give my experience here 0 stars if I could. In 11 years of going to therapy, I have never experienced a doctor as unprofessional as Dr. Smith and his staff. The office CANNOT set or keep an appointment schedule. I never waited less than 35-60 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment time to actually meet with with the doctor. I understand that Doctors fall behind - in this case it's due to Dr. Smith's own poor appointment management - but I understand that this is a reality of the profession. What makes this egregious is the complete lack of communication with patients about scheduling issues. If Dr. Smith had respect for his patients, he would let them know if/when he is running behind so we could adjust our appointments/lives accordingly. But instead the answer you get from this office is "we informed you during your intake that appointments are often missed/delayed." To compound the problem, you have to be on top of your phone because when Dr. Smith finally gets around to calling you (35-60 minutes after your appointment), he will call you one time, and if you miss it, you're SOL. So to avoid this, the obligation is on you as the patient to be monitoring your phone at all times to ensure you don't miss the 10-15 second window when Dr. Smith finally does call. And finally, to make things worse, if your appointment is after hours, there is no way to call him back. You wait 50 minutes after your appointment time without any sense of when he will call, you put your phone down for 1 minute, miss the call, and that's it. You have to go through the entire process again of scheduling an appt on a different day and waiting around for the doctor to call. If you want a doctor that cares about you and your time or a doctor that has the cognitive ability to set an appointment schedule and stick to it, don't go to Dr. Smith.
Ignored my Psychotic Mania and Suicide Attempts I was a patient of Dr. Smith for four years and felt he had a strong understanding of my conditions. However, during a period of manic psychosis, when I was acting out and reaching out for help, Dr. Smith chose to drop me as a patient. Despite the clear signs of my distress—such as a recent suicide attempt in crashing my car, and an overdose of medications—he did not intervene to protect my safety or have me committed. These were critical warning signs that any psychiatrist should have recognized. Unfortunately, his decision to abandon me at such a vulnerable time only exacerbated my psychosis. Based on this experience, I would caution against relying on Dr. Smith during severe psychiatric crises, as his response was deeply inadequate in a life-threatening situation.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
