Dr. Mark Johnson's Online Review Report Card

If I could give this post 0 stars I would. Today I saw Dr. Johnson to evaluate an urgent medical issue this is how it went. Let me start off by saying I have never been so humiliated by a doctor in my life. I left the office feeling defeated, hopeless, and in more pain then when I arrived. Immediately when Dr. Johnson came into the room he said, " [he was] the doctor and would be doing all the talking because I was going to be full of drama". By the way, I have never seen this doctor before and I was being evaluated as a new patient. During my appointment I was not given the opportunity to speak or explain to him my symptoms. After my brief exam Dr. Johnson proceeded then to tell me what he believed was my diagnosis is and what the treatments would be for that. When it was time for treatment he said, "it would be painful" which I was prepared for but what I wasn't prepared for was when he said, "[he] wasn't going to numb me because I [was] asking for it". I was shocked but desperate for relief so I stayed and went through with it. Which I immediately regret. The procedure did not come with any relief, the opposite in fact. I told Dr. Johnson i was in pain but he told me "I [was] being a little girl and that my condition doesn't come with pain". Unfortunately I can attest as proof that it is indeed painful. After the procedure he let me know, "it was ineffective and I would have to deal with it for several more weeks". Let me remind you this procedure was performed without any anesthetic. I was not provided with any type of medication to manage the pain. I currently take an NSAID daily so I am unable to take Ibuprofen because the interact with each other. He told me "[I would] just have to suffer' and gave me no other option for relief. At the end of my appointment he could see I was visibly upset and simply said, "[I] couldn't blame him because [he] is just a direct person". Ultimately the issue is both his bedside manner and the fact that he refused to provide any anesthetic because I asked for it. I asked for treatment and relief not to be humiliated and assaulted. If you can't be sympathetic to your patients and don't know how to follow the most basic rules of Ethics then you shouldn't be a doctor. I write this post in the hopes someone in my similar situation reads this before scheduling their appointment and have to feel the same way I did. I plan on submitting a formal complaint with the Florida Department of Health. Edit: I have read Dr. Johnson's response which is absolutely false account of what happened today. I did indeed did see other providers for this condition and all advised me to go to an Ophthalmologist. I was not dissatisfied with their services at all. Each provider did their best to help me but within their scope of medicine. I did not expect either doctor to fix the issue immediately. I am an adult and also work in the medical field and understand things take time to heal. The big difference between the other providers and Dr. Johnson I was still treated with respect and dignity did not leave in worse condition than when I arrived. I am also not surprised that his response to my original post addressed none of the serious issues and the ethical violations he did. Regardless of his intentions he did indeed cause harm to me both emotional and physically which is a direct violation of the oath he took as a doctor to do no harm. This message is for you Dr. Johnson, RETIRE! If you can't see that you are in the wrong and don't have the decency to apologize for both your behavior and the pain you inflicted then you should't be in the medical field where your main objective is to help people and improve their quality of life. You did not do either!

Dr. Johnson is the most arrogant, condescending and rude health care professional I've ever come in contact with. Hard to believe he's actually a practicing physician and even harder to believe he has any patients that bother with him. My opinion is to use someone else (as I did) and avoid this practice.

Dr.Johnson is efficient, meticulous and knowledgeable. I wish I hadn’t waited as I long as I did for cataract surgery. It has changed my life. I found Dr.Johnson personable and humorous. I am in a health care field, and I am very fussy about my providers. I highly recommend Dr.Johnson and his staff.

I was referred to Dr. Johnson by my primary care physician, who knew I hadn't had my eyes checked in more than 10 years (15 years is probably more realistic). I have a ton of anxiety about eye exams and was reassured by both my primary and my husband that he was the best - I would be fine. I'm sure neither of them gets anxious about getting eye exams! For anyone still reading, my appointment was late this afternoon. My nerves got the best of me around lunch time, so I I decided to read the Google reviews about Dr. Johnson and his office. BIG MISTAKE! Some of the reviews had me expecting the absolute worst, so reiterating REALLY BIG MISTAKE for this nervous-Nelly! I went from nervous to terrified. I checked messages to see if my appointment was rescheduled - it wasn't. Ugh...I needed to go to this appointment, and so I went. My experience? Clearly 5 stars. I found the check-in process to be very stream-lined, and the entire front office staff was courteous and professional. Once in the exam room, Carol was incredibly kind and took time to explain what she was doing, and what I would experience, before she actually did it. She was extremely patient and professional and never once made me feel like a baby because I was nervous. In a word, Carol was AMAZING - I couldn't have asked for better! Next up? The dreaded and horrible Dr. Johnson. Something must have been wrong...he came in smiling and was very likeable. He asked why I was there (I want to see better!!), asked questions about my family's history with cancer and eye diseases, and for specifics from my one and only previous eye exam (I was unable to offer anything but a single pair of prescription glasses with a missing lens..lol). He did his exam, and like Carol, explained everything before he did it. Throughout the exam, he was engaging as well as forthcoming with information of his findings. He didn't try to coerce me into having surgery. He didn't belittle me for failing to have more frequent eye exams. I'm confident that he knew I was nervous, yet he never once chastised me. Instead he made sure that I understood my eye conditions and gave me supplemental reading material. He strongly recommended that I do a follow-up exam in a year so he can assess changes now that he has baseline data (I booked it). He promised I will see better when I get my new glasses, and there was no arrogance with his promise (just the facts). Was I happy with all of the findings today? No, but at least I know now. I ordered my glasses onsite. Really easy, and a nice selection of frames. Overall, I am thankful for the referral and happy I went to my appointment. THANK YOU DR. JOHNSON and CAROL for your 5-star care and genuine concern for my eye-health, and thanks to everyone else I encountered who made today easier than I thought it was going to be!

Very pleased with the care at this office. Had cataract surgery and couldn’t be happier. I haven’t been able to see this well in 15 years. Have referred friends I was so pleased with results

Dr Johnson is very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. I am so happy with the results of my cataract surgery. I can see great for the first time in 15 years. Thank you Dr Johnson!

I saw Dr Johnson for several years before I finally jumped ship. He has no business working in a helping profession. Quick and abrupt. Talks to his staff rather than his patient. If he is questioned, he becomes caustically offensive. I understood him to be saying two things which contradicted each other and when I asked for clarification, he told me he was not going to tell me again. If you are looking for someone who communicates and listens well, buyer beware!!!

DR. Johnson is rude and does not listen. Everytime you go in you are submitted to an hour exam whether you need it or not. Takes CC info on a piece of paper. Medicare scam. although I have nothing to back this up. Just my instinct. DO NOT GO SEE THIS DOCTOR.

The most arrogant Dr. I've ever been to. Does not listen to you when explaining what you are there. Definitely doesn't not run on time or respect your time. Not very personal and WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

The physicians oath says, DO NO HARM! DO NOT GO to Dr. mark Johnson! I noticed that the eye drops he had prescribed had sulfa in the name? He started to get curt and yelled at me to stop acting like a 2 yr old, Then yelled that HE was the DR. and I did not know what I was talking about. on and on . I told him that is why I ask the question! Especially since I am allergic to sulfa? He did not take me off the drops! My new doctor ask me who had prescribed these same drops since I am allergic to sulfa? Do not go to a incompetent doctor who does not want you to ask questions, he thinks he is God and says shut up you don’t know what you are talking about! I have since heard he has a terrible reputation and everyone knows not to question him or God forbid ask a question, even in The surgery center. He does not look at you and sends patients out of the surgery crying because of his actions! Says not to be a whiner or complain because he misjudged the depth of eye doing cataract surgery on my eye. He hurt me and when I said ohh that is painful he has me flat on my back during surgery and refuses to let the anesthesiologist give more anesthesia said I should not complain! Told me I was acting like a baby! Hateful and disrespectful He did not care. He said he would not be sympathetic to me as HE was the Dr. After all! .. I am happy to take my business elsewhere!
