Thomas Ruane's Online Review Report Card

I have never publicly posted a negative review. I have worked in customer service and was not rude in any way that deserved to be hung up on. The receptionist at this office just hung up on me when I asked her name. I have never been treated so unprofessionally. I just moved to the area and need a new urologist. I called last week and spoke to a woman (I imagine the same woman who just hung up on me), she told me I need to contact my current urologist and have them fax my medical records. My current urologist is telling me that the protocol is to have the new urologist request medical records. I just called this office and explained what my former urologist said. I asked what I should do since both offices were telling me different things. She said if I was already a patient she could request them but since I am not yet, she cant. I am TRYING to be a patient at this clinic. I was trying to explain I have a UTI and needed to be seen and than I asked her name in case I had to call back after I called my former Urology office again and when I did she hung up on me. I do not believe anyone deserves to be treated like this. I am sure these Doctors in this office are amazing and unfortunately I will never find out.

Staff was great. Dr R..was very thorough in explaining procedure.

After several visits due to blood in my urine I had a cystoscopy in the office by Dr. Ruane. I have anxiety and was concerned that I could do this, and I was pretty nervous. Dr. Ruane made me feel safe and comfortable. The procedure was only 10 minutes (after prep) and I could watch on a monitor. He explained everything to me very well. I would definitely recommend Dr.Ruane.

Visit with Dr Ruane was good. We established surgery was needed to correct the issue. I was turned over to the Surgery Cooridinator in the office. Surgery was scheduled for in 3 weeks . going forward 2 weeks I was scheduled for surgery pre-op at the hospital. Hospital Nurse conducting the pre-op asked about instructions from my Cardiologist pertaining to Blood Thinners as they had not been sent instructions. My surgery is 1 week away. When I left the pre-op session I immediately phoned the Dr's office to talk with Surgery Coordinator, left voice mail explaining what had transpired. Tuesday no return phone call so I called again left voice mail and sent email. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday same drill-voicemail and email. Day of surgery because Cardio orders were not received and relayed to me about meds they could not do surgery. This was after I was all prepped for surgery. IV's, heart monitor applied etc. Never received a phone call from Dr Office about my status for surgery or to address my concerns. My opinion, incompetent and uncaring Staff Ed

They are not big on returning phone calls. Dr. Ruane operated on me several weeks ago, still having pain and none of medical staff will return calls. Unprofessional.

This has been unbelievable. After a ridiculous amount of time, I finally reached a live person at Dr. Ruane's office in January. She instructed me to have my husband's medical records sent to them before she would schedule his appointment. His primary care physician sent those records to Dr. Ruane's office OVER A MONTH AGO. Since then, Dr. Ruane's office NEVER answers its telephone and NEVER returns telephone voice mail messages. My husband has a significant kidney stone issue that must be treated very soon. Dr. Ruane's office has shown little regard for patients and I am shocked at the unprofessionalism.

He's a good doctor. No complaints about him. His office is inefficient. If you call you go thru an answering company. I left a message that I need to speak to the office several times. The doctor's staff never calls back.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Ruane for over four years. He has diagnosed issues, performed surgery, and followed my condition. Most recently, today. At my advanced age, I see several doctors and specialists. Dr. Ruane and his office staff rank at the top of the list for competency, courtesy, and uniquely, respect for my time. To a person, always pleasant and professional.

I truly believe that Dr. Ruane is a kind, thoughtful Doctor. His office is busy, yet very welcoming and friendly. If I ever need a urologist, I would gladly see him. I would like to give a 5 rating but for my concern of only doing surgery at Venice Bayfront Regional Hospital. The operating theatre is exactly where their infectious rates are high. Out patient OR is fine. They need to create a whole new OR but the parent company isn’t going to do that. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go to Venice hospital. I’ve had wonderful experiences there at the ER and outpatient services. Just be mindful. You’re your best advocate. CDC in August 2020. Venice grade 54 for infections rate. Doctors Hospital, 72 and Sarasota Memorial Hospital 78. Some infections are to be expected like UTI’s after catheterization all 3 hospitals have a high rate of this. But the more problematic pathogens such as MRSA and C diff and a very dangerous infection called ESBL are higher at Venice. So, discuss this with your Doctor.

Went to him yearly with urinary issues. Never did a PSA. Moved from Englewood and immediately started with a new urologist. First visit he did a PSA and I am now diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer at 55 years old! This should of been caught earlier. Simple blood test. Now I have to fight for my life.
