🥰 The staff from the front desk, to the wonderful nurses', doctors and the people in the surgery of the cardiac unit. I was treated with utmost respect and professionalism. I was very happy with everything. Thank you for a fine staff.
Worst care ever. super rude staff. The ER bed has a metal bar that litterly will kill your back. came in with shoulder pain and numbness down my left side. now in severe pain down my spine from this bed. 9 hours no IV fluids and nothing to drink. Don't put your life in there hands .
Upon arriving at ER dept.approx 11am on 2/21/25 with my husband due to high blood sugar levels. It started at the front desk, they acted as if it was an inconvenience to check us in very poor attitude not friendly at all, other person at desk on personal phone, was told to move to triage where Valentino was the check in nurse, acted as if we shouldn't of come becuz when he checked sugar it was 393 , but when we checked at home before even going it was 467 , we explained we had been dealing with this since January and been in contact with primary doctor adjusting meds . Was taken to room 38 where Amy came in to access my husband once again dealing with a bad attitude , very rude and had zero bedside manner, Abbey came in to ask medical questions, my husband doesn't know all the answers so I was answering for him when Amy says to my husband she doesn't let you speak for yourself. He told her that's why she is here becuz I don't know most answers. Got Iv inserted and they Amy says Dr will be in shortly he is with a more important patient, well that didn't sit well with us becuz whose to determine they are more important than us. Anyway approx hour or so later Dr Sholtz comes in accesses my husband let's him know bloodwork was good and proceeded to let us know what he was going to do and what we needed to do when arriving back home and once the fluids were done he would be discharged after giving insulin. Well Abbey comes to take sugar and notices the saline bag hasn't moved any , instead of someone checking it when it was put on she proceeds to say it's my husband fault becuz his arm was bent. No it's the nurse fault that started it becuz she didn't check it throughly . At discharge Abbey explained orders took IV out , put cotton and piece of tape over and we proceeded down all to bathroom. My husband comes out and blood oozing from under tape so we go back to room to get retaped when we arrived back in the same room I opened the door to what I'm guessing is nurse station and who do I see first Amy pulling a bed , I ask could someone please come retape my husband , her response was very rude " Get inside room no patients are allowed out here" well I respond I'm in the room which I was I had not stepped out of room I just opened the door. That was the last straw with her . If she can't be any more polite to patients she doesn't need to have contact with them. We understand everyone has bad days but the rudeness she displayed we felt was uncalled for. We were no way rude to her to justify being treated that way. And let me add this as well, there were 4 patients in the lobby when we got there and passed at least 11 empty room to get to room 38 and was never offered a wheelchair even after we told them he was lightheaded. In closing will we go back to ER absolutely because one bad experience doesn't justify not coming back and you are the only hospital in Winter Haven. A kind word and smile goes a long way when you are dealing with the sick.
Absolutely terrible. Save yourself the trouble go to Advent Health or Lakeland. Completely bypass this place!
The staff is professional, friendly and efficient. They really care about the patient and visitors comfort
I arrived at Winter Haven Hospital’s emergency room on December 2nd at 6:30 AM with severe abdominal pain and uncontrollable vomiting that had persisted for five days. I had not been able to eat solid food since Thanksgiving November 28th. Upon arrival, the emergency team conducted several tests and suspected a blockage, leading to my admission for further observation and treatment. Initially, the care I received was responsive, and the staff seemed attentive. However, as my symptoms persisted, including severe vomiting and an inability to hold down liquids, I felt the care and communication began to deteriorate. I was placed on a no-food, no-liquid diet, and an NG tube was inserted on December 2nd to relieve stomach pressure. Despite my condition, I was required to consume oral contrast for an MRI, but due to my ongoing vomiting, I could barely tolerate it. The MRI results came back clear, followed by a gastrointestinal endoscopy that also showed no issues, though the procedure itself was very challenging due to my symptoms. On December 4th, I was informed that everything appeared normal despite persistent symptoms, including severe pain and elevated liver enzymes (ALT at 193, far above the normal range of 0–55). High blood pressure I was told the issue was likely viral and similar to the flu. At this point, my pain medication was reduced, and my condition was attributed to constipation. Despite these explanations, I remained in excruciating pain, unable to keep anything down, and continued to feel that something serious was being overlooked. When I expressed concerns about being discharged prematurely, I encountered resistance and a lack of empathy. My request to speak with risk management went unfulfilled, as the phone in my room didn’t work. Efforts to escalate my concerns to the charge nurse or head nurse were also dismissed, and the attending doctor did not come to address my questions directly. While the initial care gave me hope, the latter part of my stay left me feeling neglected and unheard. I am leaving the hospital in severe pain and with unresolved symptoms, questioning whether my concerns were ever taken seriously. I would not recommend this hospital to others based on my experience. I pray that my body heals itself because the hospital would not help me to figure out what was the issue. It’s very discouraging. It feels like I’m fighting for my life.
**Swann 4 Surgical Unit 1, Winter Haven Hospital Review** I’ve been a C5 quadriplegic for 24 years, with over 20 hospital stays across facilities like Lakeland Regional, Tampa General, Miami Jackson Memorial, Craig Hospital in Colorado, and more. My time at Craig Hospital, one of the best spinal cord injury rehab centers in the world, taught me and my family crucial survival skills, emphasizing that most regular hospitals do not understand the specific needs of quadriplegics. This training was essential because a quadriplegic’s life expectancy is significantly affected by the quality of their rehab, which is why Craig Hospital has been pivotal in my survival. Over the years, I’ve faced numerous challenges in hospitals that lacked the knowledge or willingness to manage my condition effectively. Autonomic dysreflexia, a severe condition causing dangerously high blood pressure spikes, is one of the most serious issues I face. Unfortunately, many hospitals fail to comprehend how quickly this can become life-threatening. Most of the time, I’ve had to manage this condition myself because the staff either didn't listen or didn't understand my 24 years of experience. However, my recent stay at Winter Haven Hospital was a refreshing and remarkable exception. For the first time, the medical team not only understood the severity of autonomic dysreflexia but took my input seriously. Doctors such as Dr. David, Dr Nakkar and Dr. Patel were especially attentive. In contrast to my experiences at other hospitals where doctors are often dismissive or stick rigidly to their protocols, they listened intently to my concerns and adjusted their treatment plans based on my input. This level of collaboration is something I’ve rarely, if ever, experienced before. They didn’t come into my room with an air of arrogance; instead, they valued my 24 years of knowledge in managing this condition. This made a world of difference in preventing the spikes in blood pressure that could have quickly turned life-threatening. Additionally, the daily care at Winter Haven Hospital was unparalleled. For example, my catheter care was exceptional. At most hospitals, I’ve had to ask someone to clean my catheter, and it’s often neglected. Here, not only was my catheter checked and cleaned daily, but sometimes it was done twice a day, without me having to ask. This level of attentiveness and understanding was new to me. It’s small details like these that make a significant impact on the well-being of someone with a condition as complex as mine. The nursing staff was equally outstanding. Nurses like **Kettly Moise** and **Judi Zewdi** took care of me for the majority of my stay, and they went above and beyond their duties. Kettly, always ensured I was comfortable, often staying after her shift ended just to administer medications on time, so I wouldn’t have to wait. Judi’s cheerful demeanor and willingness to assist—whether it was her task or not—made my days much brighter. Even when Judi wasn’t my assigned nurse, she would stop by to check in, a gesture that I’ve rarely seen in any hospital. Another nurse who made a huge difference was **Toccara Oyewusi**, who was consistently professional, kind, and responsive to my needs. Similarly, **Melissa Macumber**, though new nurse in training, demonstrated remarkable compassion and eagerness to learn and provide the best care possible. Her bedside manner was exceptional, and I could see she has a bright future in nursing. **Karla Gomez**, **Mollie Canfield**, and **Rachel Curry** were also highly attentive, ensuring that I never felt like a burden, even when asking for help with the most basic tasks. The tech team, including **Nadia Washington**, **Melissa**, and **Robin Oatman**, played an instrumental role in ensuring my care went smoothly. Their consistent attention to my needs and ability to anticipate what was necessary contributed greatly to my comfort and well-being. Nadia’s and Melissa's sense of humor and kindness in particular stood out, making them both of them my favorites among all the staff. What truly sets Winter Haven Hospital apart is the way the entire team collaborates to ensure patient care. When nurses were busy, even the unit secretary, **Cindy Silis**, would respond to the call light. I experienced almost no wait times during my entire three-week stay—at most, I waited two minutes, which is unheard of in most hospitals. Cindy’s responsiveness and eagerness to assist, even in non-traditional roles, made an immense difference in reducing stress. The **cleaning staff**, especially Lola, were also incredibly friendly and professional, contributing to the overall positive environment of the unit. Another aspect that stood out at Winter Haven was the hospital culture. The phrase “that’s not my job” simply didn’t exist here. **Janis Oliver** and **Ashley Garrett**, the managing nurses, regularly stopped by and were not above doing tasks usually delegated to others, such as administering basic care or even bringing me coffee. Their hands-on approach and accessibility were incredibly reassuring, and they made sure I was well-cared for at every level. Even the **turn team**, **Amarie** and **Lindsay**, Among others team members played a crucial role in my care. They were always prompt and efficient in helping me avoid pressure sores, an issue that can lead to severe complications for quadriplegics. Their dedication and precision were much appreciated. Considering my recent stay at Tampa General Hospital resulted in a huge pressure wound, the very reason I'm in Winter Haven Hospital, highlights the difference between the two. The doctors, **Dr. David**, **Dr Nakker** and **Dr. Patel**, stand out for their willingness to listen and adapt their care based on my feedback. This is an area where most hospitals have failed me in the past. They didn’t treat me as just another patient but as someone with valuable experience regarding my own condition. Their flexibility in adjusting their treatment approach significantly reduced my stress and contributed to the overall success of my stay. Winter Haven Hospital’s Swan 4 Surgical Unit is truly exceptional in its level of care, collaboration, and compassion. This is the first hospital in which I felt my condition was not only understood but managed with the utmost competence. For someone with a complex disability like mine, that is a rare and invaluable gift. I can honestly say I did not encounter one person, not one nurse, tech, doctor, or any member of their team that was not great. For the staff members who provided care for me while here, I did not mention by name, it was not due to your lack of care or skill. It was just a simple fact that I could not remember or find your name. For the Baycare or Winter Haven Hospital Management that reviews this, please make sure every single person who was involved in my stay and care here gets the exact same recognition because they all deserve it whether mentioned or not. Sincerely, Cliff Powell
good attitude good with kids found out what was wrong my son's eye thank you
So many were so great that day in easing our anxiety and the unknown 💯! Husband wife date day, ha 💩🤪! Aria, Kim, Maribel, Jerry, Maria, Lacy, Jenn, Amanda, Henry, Dr. Shaik, and Dr. Simmons were exceptional and even jovial 😆 to make what could be a stressful situation fun! Everyone on point, even the music!! They should have 🎶 in preop and recovery for surgery - we are headed there next month!
Hospital has no clue what they are doing.... they send a patient to another facility and then tell them family a different facility and we spend four hours driving around to different facilities before we get to the one where they sent the patient. Try to call back to Winter Haven and they won't let you talk to anyone in the ER or Administration they want to take a message or for you to leave voicemail and someone will get back with you.
