Great Doctor!

Dr. Scoma takes care of me when I am in the hospital. He is amazing and has helped me control my steroid induced diabetes every time I am admitted. Which isn't easy with my medical condition. He is loving, kind and very knowledgeable.

I saw Dr. Scoma from 2003 to 2007; we had to move to another state, I would beat my life on him! He was very informative, helpful and honest. He caught my thyroid cancer and took care of it. I miss him as my endocrinologist

The best Physician I have ever gone to. I was a patient for 20 years and only stopped going to Dr. Scoma because he did not accept the insurance I had at the time. Every physician I have seen in the many years following are a zero. I always received very thorough examinations when I had an appt with Dr. Scoma. All others don't examine me, they ask if anything is wrong or do I need a prescription. Dr. Scoma never gave pharmaceutical samples, and only prescribed prescriptions when it was necessary. A wonderful sense of humor and always joked with me. He would recommend different health issues and how to help myself. Unfortunately, I never was a good patient, I never listened to proper advice, I was extremely stubborn in helping myself. Now, 38 years since I became a patient of Dr. Scoma, I finally grew up and have taken his advice 18 years later. Remarkably, I have reversed many health issues by helping myself. I am sure he would be proud of me now if he saw me. I am proud of myself. Thank You Dr. Scoma for being a very upright physician, human being and almost friend. I highly respect you as a doctor. Thank you!

I was informed Dr. Scoma is retiring after several attempts to make an appointment and no call back. No new patients.

My husband and I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dr. Scoma. I've dealt with one particular office staff member more than the others, and she is very good. But, for Dr. Scoma--amazing. I'm seeing him regarding a thyroid issue, and he is very professional, thorough in his explanations, and personable. Based on reviews from this and other sites, I believe that he takes care of himself, and expects the same from his patients, as good doctors do. Little to no waiting time, and just felt comfortable and confident with him.

I've only seen Dr Scoma today for the first time. I've had my complaints (extreme fatigue, muscle soreness, nausea, shortness of breath . . . and more) dismissed by my primary care doctor and dermatologist for several months. I went to see a nephrologist a few weeks ago because of decreased kidney function. He felt I had Addison's and referred me to Dr Scoma. I was really apprehensive, especially after reading some of these reviews. But, Dr. LaGatta assured me Dr Scoma would also listen to my concerns and wouldn't be dismissive. He was right! Dr. Scoma was quite attentive and reviewed lab results I brought in. He confirmed the Addison's diagoses, discussed the treatment and plan of care, including lab work, and gave me a printout of the plan. So far, I feel very confident being managed by Dr. Scoma. I can't really rate the office staff as I only had limited interaction. I did get an appointment promptly (next day).

Initially, I had to wait about 2.5 months to even get in to see Dr. Scoma for a first visit. I was understanding, however, as I know that such waits are common for specialists. So, I finally go my first appointment, and the woman at the front desk (as others have said) is seriously not friendly. She was curt and sour-faced when I tried explaining an issue I was having with the referring doctor, which was effecting the availability of my medical records from said doctor.Every time I go to Dr. Scoma's after completing more testing (blood work, ultrasounds, etc.), I then have to wait 1-2 months before I can be seen again. I have been trying to get a diagnosis/treatment for MONTHS now, and I have NO results.A recent ordeal I had involving their office was the last straw. Their office ordered a blood test for me, and I completed it. I also completed an ultrasound. So, Dr. Scoma's office then sends a request that I get a CT scan. When I call to make the appointment to schedule the CT scan, they tell me that Dr. Scoma didn't give them a diagnosis or even enough information to discern what type of CT scan I would need. So, they have to call his office and get it straightened out. Ok, done. I finally make my appointment and am told to arrive an hour early for the CT scan for prep. 30 minutes pass, and I am called to the front and asked if Dr. Scoma had me do blood work prior to coming in. I said yes, as I had it done weeks prior. They tell me that Dr. Scoma's office has no record of this test, even though the results were sent to his office. 30 more minutes pass. I am called up and told that the correct type of blood test was not performed, and that I would have to call Dr. Scoma's office, get ANOTHER blood test, and then get the CT scan a week later. I wasted my entire morning on this whole thing, all because Dr. Scoma's office didn't do what they were supposed to do.Dr. Scoma himself is very nice, and takes time with his patients. But because of the rudeness/ineptness of his office staff, I am sad to say that starting today I will no longer be a patient of Dr. Scoma's.If you value your time, you'll go to a different doctor.

Dr. Scoma may have issues with women. Though I have an advanced degree from a prestigious university in the Northeast, he asked me if I was sure I knew how to compute an average. After 2 1/2 years as his patient, he handed me a letter, which his office referred to as a "contract", and which he insisted that I sign. That letter required me to leave his practice after my next visit if my a1c number had not decreased from 8.4 to 7.1 by that visit. This "contract" has blanks to fill in required weight loss and blood glucose readings, in addition to the required a1c. The patient is told what results she MUST meet within 90 days, or the doctor will drop that patient. I was already at the glucose average reading which had been filled-in, and I have no weight to lose. But the doctor was still using a1c to drop me from his practice. Perhaps he would prefer not to have Medicare patients. And what about patients who are told that they must lose a serious amount of weight in 90 days, or this physician will no longer treat them? This physician is dropping the patients who need help the most, and insulting the intelligence of his patients along the way. I hope some of the patients who receive these letters will decide to sue, because in my opinion, the "contract" letter is unethical and immoral. I was a patient of this office for 2 1/2 years before the "contract" served as a wake up call. It has caused me to look for a physician who is a better communicator. I would NOT encourage a woman to see this physician.
