Worse experience I've ever had!

Dr Barnard operated on me in 2007. I had a bulging disc in my neck but in all actuality the problem was coming from my scoliosis that I’ve been undetected. To make a long story short he did a disc fusion taking bone from my hip and putting it into my neck. The bone was too big and he was supposed to use a plate with screws and didn’t he only put the bone in to let it fuse. He told me I was to take my brace off after seven days and resume normal activities after 2 weeks. Come to find out I was supposed to wear that brace for eight weeks and then after several times going to him and other doctors because I was getting sicker and sicker, my throat and chest was hurting so bad, my neck was swelling, I couldn’t hardly swallow. It was continually getting worse and basically he told me it was all in my head. A walk in clinic found the mass I had that turned out to be staff and found out Dr Barnard punctured my esophagus during surgery. This went 11 months untreated and I was very sick and almost died. They had to place a feeding tube in my stomach for right at a year and I was in the hospital for almost 4 months. So think twice before you let him touch you.

I had spinal fusion and was told I would be up and walking that same day. I was not. I was sent home from their surgical center unable to walk. The drain tube in my back came OUT on the ride home and I bled all over the car. The doc called me that evening and asked if I was up and walking around and I explained I was unable. FOR 10 ENTIRE DAYS I suffered and cried, unable to sit, stand, walk, sleep, and had horrible pains shooting down my legs. I called daily, multiple times, in so much pain I wanted to die. I went into the office at least 2 times inside this 10 day period, on one visit I was unable to do anything but cry uncontrollably due to the pain. I am not a cry baby, and I have a high pain tolerance! Finally, day 10, they admitted me to the hospital for emergency surgery. I was hemorrhaging that entire time. I had been prescribed meds to try to ease the pain, but none worked, and every time I called the office I was told to take ibuprofen. Maybe if my pain had been taken more seriously, it would not have been 10 days of suffering and horrible pain. Now, after a recent xray due to the same pain I had before surgery, I am told that my spine has been fused out of alignment. One vertabrae is literally 1.5 centimeters forward - and causing the same pain I had before.

My mother was referred to MSA after a PA at her general practioner's office diagnosed her as needing a hip replacement. She had been in tremendous pain for weeks before seeking treatment. Dr Barnard did an exam and determined based on her reaction to him manipulating her leg that it was indeed her hip and first prescribed an injection in her hip, which only made her pain worse. Then he inexplicably ordered a MRI of her back. Every appointment was at least 2 weeks for him to run a test & us to come back & get results. My mom was in agony for almost a month and a half because of him, not to mention all the money spent on unnecessary tests to rule out a back issue. Finally after about 6 weeks and a 2nd MRI of her hip, Dr Barnard announces it was her hip, it needed to be replaced and HE DOESN'T TREAT HIPS...so we have to start over with a new Dr for treatment!! I took her to the Hughston clinic. They replaced her hip within 2 weeks. Do not waste your time or money with this Dr!!!!

Dr. Barnard genuinely cares about your problems. He listens first and treats accordingly. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a physician who sees his patients as people, not problems!

I saw him at Southern Bone and Joint, before he moved over at Flowers Hospital, and then they got rid of him. I'm not here to settle any scores, but I was only 21 when I first saw him and had just had a young son. I had a small fracture that is said that if it does not cause pain by age 7, it will never cause pain. Well, he met me twice and then gave me the option of surgery, what he called a "partial" spinal fusion or to keep going as I was currently. I wanted relief and put my faith in Dr.'s, or so I used too. He did not give me an option of a bone bank, as I didn't know he would even be scraping bone from my hip. I hurt worse now, and when I first went for additional information as to what was going on back there, I would say a partial spinal fusion. They would laugh and say there is "no" such thing and I would tell them that what Barnard had called it. Well, Tramadol has worked since he butchered my hip for bone and gave me relief for 13 years. Then a cardiologist and vascular surgeon started putting the pieces together. I started having blood flow to my foot stop and they were going to do immediate bypass surgery on my foot when the blood came back. I told them I had been having the problem for a few months, but it was getting worse. We told them the same "THINGS" we told Barnard...that my mother has Rheumatoid Arthritis and other forms of arthritis. So before he cut on me twice, he should have tried injections, medications, and many other things first; however, after two visits, he wanted to do surgery on me. Since I get my monthly Rheumatoid Arthritis infusions and steroids and other medications, I hardly ever have to take a tramadol. I suffered through for years for two doctors to figure out that my body was riddled with arthritis, and that I also had the worse form, a strong strain of Rheumatoid Arthritis. When I see my two kids now, because I had one 11 years later, I look at all I overcame to do all the things and yearly vacations with them; however, in the same look, I also think of Dr. Barnard, and how I would love to see him in town one day, how he ruined the peak years of my life, but most of all, how he hindered my sacred time with my children. If you do see this doctor, and he does listen to you; you can bet he's listening carefully, as to figure out the best way to code what he wants to do, to ensure he lines his pockets with your pain.

Doctors don't listen to patients. The treatments hurt worse then then ailment but they won't do anything for the pain. When you try telling it hurts they blow you off. They need to stop treating all patients like drug seekers. Not all of us are.

Very professional, reasonable wait time, kind and allowed me to ask questions which were carefully and fully answered.

Dr. Barnards office was the worst experience I ever had with a doctor, they do not return phone calls, they only give you shots and want your money only, my son had to take off work to look after me and asked for them to help him with a dr's note and lied and did not help him. If you need a doctor please look elsewhere, not the place to go! I recommend dr's in Tifton or Valdosta, trust me its worth the drive than going here!
