Smith Dental Care Of Athens's Online Review Report Card

I show up and they immediately ask if I have insurance. Not really the friendly greeting I am used to at most places like this. I am a new patient so I complete all the new patient paperwork. I should have known a place with extra openings throughout the day is probably not the best place to go, but I was desperate as a very chipped front tooth is hard to function with. I showed up early and was still seen over 20 minutes past my appointment time. I go back and they do the usual x-rays for a new patient. Before the dentist even comes in, a front desk lady comes back and tell me the cost and asks for payment. Maybe the places I used at home are more trusting or nice, but I have never had to pay before services at a dentist. I am usually given the treatment plan, agree to the costs, and pay when I go to leave. They will not work on you here without payment up front. This should have been my biggest red flag that I was going to a shady place. The dentist comes in to do the filling and seems uninterested and rushed. He rushed through the procedure and immediately got up once finished and walked away. I did not even have a chance to talk to him or him see if I was satisfied. I was not. The back of my tooth felt like a mountain of solid gunk was stuck on it. I mentioned this to the tech and she had to go get the dentist to come back. He seemed frustrated and asked me what was wrong. I explained the back felt extremely rough and like it had a lip on it. He rushed through the fix and I was shocked that he got up right away yet again and did not wait to see if I was ok or liked the work. I went to my car a little shocked at what had happened. When I looked in the mirror and felt the front of my tooth, it was horrible. It looked like it had been gouged by the drill and little lines were visible across the front and it felt very rough. I went back inside and told them I was not happy with how it looked and needed it to be smoothed over. The dentist had moved to another patient so I was ok waiting. He comes back and seems annoyed that I was questioning his work. I explain that all the times I have had work done on this tooth, it never felt or looked like this afterwards. He explained why it would not look or feel right but did some fixes that made it much better. He then waited for me to look in the mirror before leaving. By this point, a small chip had formed on the inner edge of the tooth making it looked still chipped. Though minor, I refused to leave until the job was done right. I am paying for a service that is important to my ability to have the tooth function. Being a front upper tooth, it is even more important that the work is done properly and looks ok. He reluctantly looked at the chip and finally agreed it was there. After fixing it for the final time, I was still not satisfied with the overall service. I had to get back to work and could not spend more time with someone that clearly did not care to do their best upfront. I will never go back or recommend anyone to go here. This was a super simple fix and he botched it multiple times. I am hoping it smooths down over time and holds up until I can go to a more reputable place that will take the time to properly do the work. I am very disappointed with this clinic and the work done today.

Unsanitary, unsafe records keeping and zero communication. Upon checking in, I noticed stacks of paperwork on the counter with billing details, including copies of patients' drivers licenses, current balance and services performed. This was worrisome as the receptionist had just taken our cards to make copies of and I assume our private information was displayed for anyone to copy as well. Once taken back, we explained what brought us into the office to the young lady in scrubs to which she responded "What do you wanna do about it?" We were confused and said we hadn't seen the dentist yet and didn't know what treatments were recommended. She replied she had to put down what we wanted to do so the dentist knew what to do... I said we would like the situation evaluated and would like recommendations and available treatment options. She said nothing and walked out. She came back saying no one working that day knew how to verify insurance so we would have to pay full price before seeing the dentist and we could just get reimbursed by our insurance. It was an urgent matter on the weekend so we paid. The dentist came in looked at the injury and asked what we wanted to do. He did not provide recommendations, explain the process or any treatment options. Due to the pain, we asked if it should be extracted? The dentist replied, "okay." The nurse came back with waivers and a sheet with two additional prices listed, one for $7500 one for $1400. No explanation. I still don't know exactly what these two prices would have been for other than "the next visit". She couldn't find a clipboard for the waivers so she dumped the surgical equipment on the counter with the mouse and keyboard and handed me the form in the tray. These tools were then used for the procedure... RUN away from this place.

I was referred to Smith Dental upon moving to Athens (2023). Kudos to my friend! The service I went for was teeth cleaning (I hadn't had it done in a year). They started with a complete set of ex-rays; the hygienist went over the results and pointed out the problem areas resulting in a deep cleaning. I was numbed with a gel that covered my pain. The hygienist was highly skilled yet very kind taking care that I wasn't suffering any discomfort while thoroughly cleaning my teeth. I was extremely pleased at the cost due to my not have dental insurance. I highly recommend this office if you are looking for a dentist.

I was set up to have a crown put in 2022. They set me up for an appointment to be prepped for the crown and I sat in the little room for at least 2 hours no one came in. Finally the Dentist came in laughing and singing songs with the radio and horse playing with the nurse. Few weeks later I went back for the crown and it didn't feel comfortable. I had to go back 2 more times and still the crown was not right. Finally I went to another Dentist office and they told me cement was left around the crown on my gums. They told me to go back to Smith Dental and that's when all my troubles started. Front desk was very nasty to me, rolling eyes, talking nasty to me like I was wrong for their mistakes. It took me about 7 months to get another crown put in because the Dentist broke the crown trying to remove the cement off my gums. The owner Smith put the second crown in on July 28th 2023 and his attitude was awful to me. He put the crown in adjusted it and didn't ask me any questions about how it felt or nothing but the bite is not good at all. The crown is too high and the bite is off. It's so disappointing and sad that this is not my fault. I can't call back for an appointment because the tone is set for me not to ever come back. Honestly I do believe I deserve my money back so I can get this fixed correctly. I asked for a refund and talked to the office manager about this and she said, "I can't see Dr Smith giving you anything" sad. I'm very dissatisfied.

I drove all the way from Atlanta to Athens to get some dental work done that the Lilburn office stated would be 700 I get to Smith dental and they tell me it's gonna be 1488. OK that's fine let's do it and then not five minutes later the lady comes back out and tells me it's gonna be $3000 the place is a joke . and all this after I confirm the price and everything over the phone before I drove an hour and wasted 30 minutes there and had to drive an hour back.

The servicehas become VERY TERRIBLE AS OF LATE. My daughter got Braces, the very next day she back because a bracket fell off...... VERY , VERY POOR SERVICE!!!!!

I called them on a Sunday and they had a opening- for later that afternoon.. I got right in and got a extraction done... very nice and clean place and everyone was nice. The dentist was excellent

Just had the worst experience of my Life! Smith Dental Care of Athens just now NEW The Service here is PISS POOR yes PISS POOR!!!! I Don't recommend ANYONE bringing their DOG here. I've been coming to this establishment since December 19,2018 with these Dang Braces. My treatment was for 24 months!! Here it is 2023 I'm STILL in Braces EVERY MONTH they call to cancel my appointments. I have to get ugly on the phone and then yes we will be able to see you. Now here's the kicker I DONT OWE THEM ANY MONEY! My Treatment is PAID IN FULL so NO y'all not gone shuffle me around like you want too! Every time I get use to a Ortho Assistant they change to someone new which is bad within itself. Get here today for a 6 p.m. appointment in which "Carla" that called yesterday to cancel said they would see me today after "speaking to a manager who told her to keep it at 6 p.m. today 3/22/23" They tell me we can't see you today your appointment was canceled and you didn't answer the phone when we called. LIES I had the phone record and the text message. The young lady that claims to be the manager came to the front desk with the wrong attitude to begin with "What can I help you with " what you mean I'm here for me 6 o'clock. She talking about they was expecting me at 4 p.m. another LIE cause if I was suppose to be here at 4 why would I show up at 6? Make it make since! I am HIGHLY disappointed!
