Dr. Tolbert is a fabulous physican, unfortunately poorly shielded by one of the worst phone systems imaginable. No way to get to a person, and the response to messages is abominable. The doctors shold be embarrassed, and Emory Health Care should be sanctioned by the AMA. and the Georgia Governor's office of Consumer affairs.
Dr. Tolbert is an exemplary oncologist working in a difficult area of medicine where the “C” word elicits an exorbitant amount of angst and fear about one’s mortality. Despite this, his genuine commitment to providing nothing but outstanding care to his patients makes him stand out. Not to mention his radiant heart shines through the core of his awe-inspiring being! Dr. Tolbert has been my oncologist since 2019 and I’m beyond blessed because each connection with him is a gift—stellar technical competence, thoughtful and clear communications, being open and receptive to treatment modalities besides Western medicine, and 100% emotionally present (huge!). He has helped me to navigate this journey with hope, faith, and that I truly matter as a unique human being (and not just another patient that will be hurried through his busy day). Dr. Tolbert is a beacon of light, for which I’ll always be deeply thankful for and appreciative of. I appreciate you more than I could ever express in words!
As a physician, this is someone i would want to treat my family. I called several hematologists to see one of my patients urgently and while many refused, Dr Tolbert kindly accepted and made time in his busy schedule to accommodate them same day. This is the kind of doctor we all need more of!
I don't know how the doctor is because I never made it past his staff. A tech. actually got in an argument with me over my height which has been the same for 23 years. Height and weight is on my record and then she wanted me to take my shoes off, like I'm gonna lie about my height. Then, she wanted to criticize me about my heart rate which was high due to how fast I walked before I arrived. I told her my blood pressure was fine and she tells me to get it checked. Crazy! Then a random tech. wanted to do labs before I had talked with the doctor to see if that was even necessary. The labs could have been easily retrieved from my medical record but apparently they want to pad the bill. I was there to discuss my labs with the doctor, not have more labs done. My appointment was at 1pm. At this point it was 1pm and the tech. tells me to wait in the lobby the doctor was on lunch break. Why the heck would they schedule an appointment when they knew the doctor takes a lunch break at that time. I just left. I will find another hematologist!! To top it all off they call me at 2:25 to ask me where I was. 1 hour and 25 min. past the actual time of my appointment. Ridiculous!!!
Outstanding, very intelligent and easy to talk to. I’m always confident in his decisions and recommendations.
My mother had stage 4 colon cancer at age 91 and he let her make her own decision not to treat, since she had other health issues and her age. He was very nice and my mother really enjoyed her time with him, even though she was feeling terrible. She said he had tons of personality. She passed 10 days later. If she would have been in pain he said to call and they would manage the symptoms.
Dr. Tolbert is one of THE BEST doctors I have ever seen, and I have seen A LOT of doctors. Highly recommend!
Doctor Tolbert has a lot of compassion for all his patients, he answers all questions and spend a little extra time if needed. His office is open as you pass to the exam rooms so you can ask him any questions at any time. He is up to date in all the latest medicines and treatments. I will recommend him to any one.
Dr. Tolbert is a great Doctor. I have received impeccable treatment/health care from him. He truly cares for his patients. Dr. Tolbert takes time to listen to everything you have to tell him. He does not rush you out of his office. He is very knowledgeable in his field of Cancer and Hematology. Dr. Tolbert is a top Hematology and Cancer Doctor in the Atlanta area. I can't speak to the previous comment that another person wrote about their experience with the Office Staff. I have personally never experienced an issue with billing, lab dept getting blood when not needed etc. or issues with the office.Dr Tolbert's expertise should not be judged based off how his staff handles getting blood work, billing (which is another dept), treatment, phone calls, medical records etc. The wait time is just as any other office. Have never been caught in a situation that the Dr takes a lunch break knowing he has patients sitting out front scheduled.Dr. Tolbert's personal Nurse Ms. P., is also a good nurse. She takes pride in her job and all patient needs. I have been a patient of Dr. Tolbert's since I was an Active duty Soldier stationed in the area in 2014. I remain a loyal patient of Dr. Tolbert, now Retired Military as of 2017. He was highly recommended and I'm glad he is my Doctor. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I love Dr T. he is excellent with my treatment and I would recommend him to anyone and has excellent bedside manners, and talks to you like a person not a child he makes sure you understands everything he is talking about to you and I really appreciate that.
They had 2 weeks to seek approval from insurance and they wait until 2days before. Needless to say, it was not obtained in time. They seem disorganized. There were times when I would call their office and try to talk to someone in appointments and the phone would not be answered.
Dr Tolbert has been my oncologist for 3 years. What I like most is he listens to you, stays on top of new research, use terminology that you can understand and always read my test findings and anything new in my pt. Portal. I love him as a doctor of course. Trust me I have several doctors and he’s number 1.. yes I would recommend him as a doctor.
I was sent to Dr. Tolbert because my pcp thought I had polycythemia vera. Dr. Tolbert explained all tests and thoughts about my condition, and while speaking with him, I felt a sense of calm and ease. He was very thorough and I highly recommend him for hematology and oncology.
I was indeed blessed to be referred to Dr. Ethan Tolbert. I did some homework and also "interviewed" him at the first consultation and knew he was the right doctor for me. Months of treatment and now remission have proven that to be true. He is up-to-date on research, remembers and focuses on what is going on in my case, is compassionate and encouraging. I have no problem with the waiting. He never rushes me, and I feel that if other patients need a little extra time with him, I can be understanding. Dr. Tolbert has eased me through three years of "cancer journey."by mdc
