Stephen Ayres's Online Review Report Card

He's a good and proficient doctor: knows what he's doing, communicates and answers questions while also sympathetic. The office is busy, so there's often a wait and can feel like a hospital. Since it is busy, be sure to ask your questions or concerns directly because they may otherwise try to wrap up to get to the next patient.

I came to Dr Ayres in December because I was pregnant with my first child. I was extremely excited but When going there we find out that I sadly have an ectopic pregnancy. Which he saw in my first appointment. He explained that I’m having an ectopic pregnancy, of course I was emotional but he made me feel extremely hopeless. I felt he didn’t care. He then made me come back 3 more times (I don’t have insurance) instead of making me take a pill to end the pregnancy because I went to him early enough and since he had me come back 3 more times, I ended up having to get an emergency surgery and they had to remove my fallopian tube (I travelled to my hometown NY where my family is to get it done) On my last appointment he told me “oh you could have took a pill last week but I made you come this week so it’s too late”. I’m hurt, sad and feel destroyed. It didn’t have to go that far. I’m a mixed woman, I hear about Georgia not caring about Us but in this case I feel like he violated my body and my hope to be a mother. I’m 30 years old I been with my man since high school, trust me we wanted this. I went and told Dr Ayres having a baby would be a blessing for me and he literally said yea yea and continued talking. I wish I picked another doctor but he was the only one available on zocdoc.

I called many times to make sure they were taking ambetter as I had no job and needed to complete my anual exam the woman on the front desk refer to Dr ayres, and told me amebetter was Ok that I couldnt see it on the website as Dr Ayres was a new adition to amebtter. 8 months later I recieved a bill because they are out of network, even told me "they dont believe someone from their office suggested that... POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!

I had a perfectly normal labor and delivery(as in, not high risk or any medical problems) but because I didn't want pitocin unnecessarily, I repeatedly had to argue with the the nurses, mid wife and ultimately this doctor. At one point a nurse tried to attach a bag that looked different from the fluids bag and I asked what it was and she said pitocin. We said NO again and she grabbed the bag off the hook and threw it on the table and stormed out. I didn't see that nurse again. Then they told me they wanted to break my water to speed up delivery. I agreed because i was tired of arguing. I had only been there for 5 hours at that point. As soon as they broke my water they said I now needed pitocin because I was now at risk for infection due to breaking my water. Dr. Stephen Ayres came in 7 hours after I arrived and told me I needed a c-section because I wasn't following the "proper labor curve". I clarified that he meant I wasn't going fast enough and he confirmed, that is what he meant. I refused the unnecessary c-section. My son was born vaginally, without issue, exactly 12 hours after I checked in. Once my son was born we wanted the cord to stay intact for a few minutes (it gives the baby an iron boost). When we tried to tell the doctor we wanted this he immediately cut the cord himself. I tried to keep my baby with me and he was literally snatched away from me and my son's father tried to prevent this and this doctor and my son's father both had him and I had to scream for my son's father to stop so my baby didn't end up in a tug of war. I was sewn up by this doctor afterwards, after the epidural was shut off so I had no pain relief of any sort and at one point the thread got a knot in it and this doctor snatched it through. That spot swelled to the size of a lemon and I couldn't walk for days. My son was xrayed without my knowledge or permission because they thought they heard crunching in his shoulder after he was taken from me. There was nothing wrong with his shoulder. My son is healthy and happy but I very much wish I had chosen a different doctor and group for my labor and delivery.

Dr A was highly recommended to my from a colleague, when i moved her 10 years ago and had to have some procedures. He was great at explaining what would occur and calming my nerves. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone.

I have been seeing Dr Ayres for over 20 years. He was the first Ob/Gyn I found when I moved to Atlanta. I would not go anywhere else. I actually drive an hour and a half once a year just for my annual with him. He delivered my child. He performed my hysterectomy. he is very thorough. And the one thing I admire most, he told me exactly what I feel when he did the biopsy and he was on target.

Saw him twice & didn't feel as if he really listened or cared about my concerns. He was too quick to answer & when trying to explain something or ask questions, he tends to cut me off. When it came to some concerns I had for my unborn baby he never gave me medical reasoning to support his answer or to reassure me; Just yes or no. That didn't make me feel confident or at ease. He wasn't as warm & friendly as the rest of the staff. I do not want this from a doctor that is to deliver my child.
