Dr. Dhruv K Modi, MD, Nephrology Piedmont Hospital Fayetteville, GA October 21,2022 We would like to speak on behalf of a physician our mother encountered during an unexpected hospitalization at Piedmont Hospital in Fayetteville, GA. Following an emergent MICU admission from ER after being diagnosed with COVID pneumonia and poor progress, our mother experienced severe kidney failure that led to starting dialysis. The kidney doctor ended up being Dr. Dhruv Modi, Nephrologist. I remember the very first day I (Katherine) met Dr. Modi at mom’s bedside, he introduced himself to us and explained exactly what his role was in her care and how he wanted her to be sure to ask him any questions regarding his plan in helping her regain her health as best possible. ……. And he had no issue with me asking a gazillion questions. He didn’t hesitate to answer every single solitary question. I am the “nosy” daughter who ask a lot of questions as well as an RN. He didn’t know I was a nurse because I didn’t tell him. My only concern was our mom’s progress because she didn’t look good. After the three of us discussed lab work, x-rays, need for kidney biopsy, possibility of long-term dialysis needs did it dawn on me that I forgot to tell him that I was a nurse. However, it was obvious to us his only concern was the critical issue happening immediately with her and what needed to take place ASAP to increase her chances of best progress possible! Regardless of impending poor turn around, he never gave up on her making progress and continued to encourage her to push forward. He explained his dialysis plan for her and assured continued assessment and follow-up of lab work and any additional testing as needed to track progress (good or bad). He didn’t hold out anything and was honest about what test results were revealing for progress. He works with the patient and family to assure he addresses all health concerns without just telling the patient what to do as well as making sure all questions are answered even if same question asked multiple times. What we loved the most was that he always made sure the patient and family were all on the same page, and comfortable with final decisions even if it required repeating or rewording for clearer understanding. My sister, Elizabeth and I LOVE how he respected our mom. It’s a true Blessing to have someone like Dr Modi taking care of our mom as well as many other people because it’s obvious that he cares about his patients as well as their family being a part of the patient’s progress. That care and respect is seen clearly in how he treats the patient and their family. As expected, my sister Elizabeth and mom look forward to every follow-up appointment with Dr. Modi because they know he is going to be straightforward and give his honest assessment of mom’s progress and what he needs her to focus on to continue making progress in her wellness journey. Even more importantly, it’s even known among employees at this the hospital. While coming in for follow-up appt, my mom and Elizabeth (daughter) decided to stop in cafeteria for breakfast. During general conversation with an employee of the hospital, who happened to ask who mom was seeing for her appointment and they said, Dr. Modi. She immediately stated, “She’s seeing the BEST of the BEST”. They looked at each other and said, WELL IT’S CLEAR, WE’VE GOT THE BEST PHYSCIAN IN THIS HOSPITAL! It’s no secret that he clearly understands and supports the fact that, IT’S EVERYTHING TO MOM AND HER FAMILY to see her return to her active lifestyle by being able to feel good about taking care of herself as much as possible because her family and Dr. Modi will always be there to help when needed. She now has her own Nephrologist and doesn’t need anyone else. He is a Godsend for our mother and will also be to many other patients he encounters in practice.
