List of Amil Putnam Patel's Reviews
For my wife's sharp pains after eating gluten, Dr. Patel wrote a prescription that had a very scary and permanent side effect. So we discontinued before the permanence kicked-in. She continued other treatments for other issues she was having in her GI tract. Weeks later, after returning to hear the results of the other treatment, we brought up "what about the other issue, the sharp pains in the stomach?". Dr. Patel recommended the exact same medicine with the nasty and permanent side effects. Is he just asking to be sued? Anyway, after several years of being miserable, my wife started taking gluten digestive enzymes (ones we found on tnvitamins.com). The pain is gone. No side effects. She can enjoy pizza and bakery with the family again. Is this another example of "if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail"?
Thank you Dr. Patel for your great bedside manner, and your professionalism. Thank you Susan, Cathy and Carla for taking care of me during my two procedures! You are fantastic!
He is smart and simple quick come to the point best results. My favorite Doctor.
I saw Dr. Patel recently for the first time. I have seen several other GI doctors over the years but was very impressed with him. He took ample time to listen to me and look at my records. He explained his thoughts and what we should do next. Will definitely stay with him for the long term.
I believe Dr. Patel and his group, Southern Gastroenterology, are very slow to respond to patient needs. Also, Dr Patel is not well versed in other chronic diseases and how they relate to the GI. It seems you can never get a live person on the phone when calling their office. Even when attempting to make an appointment or to speak to a doctor's nurse, you are always leaving a message and it is not returned until several hours later. If the nurse needs to talk to Dr Patel about patient issues, turn around time for information is more than 24 hours from the initial call ( even if the GI problems or rather serious). Apparently, they are just too busy to be patient-oriented.
Have used twice. Very personable/great Dr. explains what he’s doing & what’s going on.
The Doctor is wonderful He could not be better . The scrub nurses in the practice's clinic are excellant as well. BUT His office staff ;eaves much to be desired. At least the scheduling and referral people, have had problems with his staff following up with outside procedure scheduling in 2018 to the point I had to write a letter complaining. The office staff withheld the letter from both him and another partner in the practice who had served me with the exact same problem, falling through the cracks. When I showed him the letter at my next scheled appointment he has never seen the letter. Now it is 2019 and I am having the same problem with followup to the point that has become a joke. Every week I call them to enquire. And every week they ignore me. I guess it is time for another letter to the chief of practice this time. Seriously, what gives?
He is a GREAT DOCTOR, great bedside manners, through, understanding, listens very well!!!! I am so happy that he was referred to my by my other Dr. Jistesh Patel (UROLOGIST) LOL!!
Dr. Patel took care of me when I was hospitalized and post discharge. He is an outstanding physician, cares about his patients, communicates in a clear and patient manner, and exhibits exemplary bedside manners. Dr. Patel is thorough and explains medical issues with patience and allows the patient to ask questions without interrupting or rushing you. I'm most grateful to him and appreciative of his stellar guidance, as I was able to stabilize and return to vibrant health. Highly recommend!!!
I went to see Dr. Patel for my colonoscopy since I had just turned 50. He was thorough and calmed any fears/anxiety I had. Colonoscopy went great! I will definitely go back to him when my next colonoscopy is due.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
