Dr Barnes is a world-class surgeon and a real gentleman. He has an aura of total class, and you will be blessed to have him care for you.
Let me tell you about Dr. Barnes and Piedmont Ortho. I have been a patient for 4 years now. I came in walking on a cane in my late 40s, in a lot of pain. Dr. Barnes met with me and looked at x-rays and told me both knees were bone-on-bone at that point. He was very firm about the need to lose weight in order to proceed with total knee replacements. Scary firm. But he also told me I needed to get in the gym and start building muscle. Any muscle that has anything to do with my knees, yes, but also upper body strength in order to recover well from the surgeries and be able to help myself more with daily needs and tasks. He asked me if we understood each other and I said, "Yes, we do understand each other." Again, firm communication, but there was also compassion in his face and voice. He shook my hand with a firm shake and I went out to face the world with a transformed view of myself and a new mission. We did an arthroscopy of the knee that was hurting most about 6 months in. Time passed slowly as I got serious about working in the gym for the first time in my life. Josh, one of the NPs at Piedmont took an active interest in my effort and helped guide me through learning the do's and don'ts of weight lifting and programming, which helped a lot, as did Dr. Barnes' assurances that relief was on the way ("I promise you!") if I kept up the weight loss. They prepared me mentally and physically to be ready for these surgeries. After I lost 102 lbs from my highest weight, we replaced one knee, and then the other, with unbelievable success in both surgeries. Where I had once been walking on two canes and barely able to get around, I became mobile and walked at normal speeds again! Pain became unfamiliar again, instead of a constant companion. Not quite done yet though, I had been complaining about shoulder pain too, and MRIs showed a torn rotator cuff. Dr. Barnes explained that it looked like it was the result of at least one major trauma earlier in life (it was probably a motorcycle accident) coupled with the repetitive motion injuries caused by using a cane for so many years. Dr. Barnes repaired 5 things in that shoulder, and I barely needed pain meds afterward. I am almost 6 months post-op and am returning slowly to normal workouts in the gym again. I got to have the shoulder surgery at the surgery center on site, instead of the hospital. They have a great crew there. I have no complaints, only appreciation for those folks. The nurse that watched over me from arrival to discharge have me her cell phone number and told me to call if I needed anything. And she returned both my calls as soon as she could. Very impressive care. The x-ray department here is highly proficient, very professional, and always pleasant to work with. The only thing I would do differently is that I would have used the physical therapy complex at Piedmont for my knees instead of one near where I live. I used Piedmont for PT on my shoulder, and they are really knowledgeable! Can't recommend them enough! All the PTs in there seen to know their stuff really well, and my therapist, Kimberlyn, is definitely a huge part of my success in recovery. Overall, I can't recommend this place, the staff, or Dr. Barnes highly enough. Does a call back get missed once in a while? Yes. Does everything always go perfectly? No. Does Dr. Barnes sugar-coat his directions or coddle his patients? No. Nothing n this life is perfect, but I won't go anywhere else for Orthopaedic care.
I was going to be a new patient coming from another orthopedic the receptionist was going to make me an appointment I wanted to wait until I got some of my records as I had a staff infection she assured me this would be no issue when I called back when I did no one would return my call or make me a appointment they knew I was having my records sent there and just silence at least be professional and courteous enough to say your dr can't handle it changed his mind or you made a mistake I would not recommend this place for my cat
I had a total knee replacement in November 2019. He’s the best orthopedic Doctor. The staff is wonderful and very friendly.
I'm a patient & Dr. Hudsebeth is my Orthopaedic & I just Love him. He listens to his patients, he's very caring, ask questions, understands your health issues. Concern about making sure his patients are well taken of. Dr. Hudsebeth is very Professional in his daily routine of Professionalism as a Orthopedic. I highly recommend Dr. Hudsebeth in getting his patients back to a healthy lifestyle. You Rock Dr. Hudsebeth.
When I went to see Dr. Barnes I was in an enormous amount of pain. Once all the imaging was completed it was determined I would need surgery, as only the deltoid muscle was intact. Dr. Barnes advised, with so much damage the surgery may not be successful, but I still had quite a lot of strength in that arm, so he was willing to try. I wanted desperately to have pain relief and be able to use my shoulder as normal. After asking many questions of both Dr. Barnes and Josh Young, the nurses practitioner, I felt comfortable with proceeding. Each of them answered all my questions to my satisfaction and was patient and attentive with myself and my wife. Within a few weeks I was scheduled for surgery. Dr. Barnes met with me that morning as well as Dr. Hudsepth. They kept my wife fully informed during surgery and once completed met with her to advise the surgery was a success. Unlike my last rotator cuff surgery there was no large incision, just five small incisions, requiring a few staples.
