I had a total shoulder replacement by Dr Harkins in Nov 2020. I had constant pain and burning in the shoulder for about a year prior to my surgery. I couldnt throw a ball overhand swim pick up my grandkids or complete a round of golf. When I woke up in recovery the pain and burning was gone. The only pain I had was a few days from the incision. Now six months later and three months of PT my shoulder remains pain free. Ive regained almost 100% of my range of motion getting back to enjoying all the things Ive missed out on for years. I couldnt imagine the surgery turning out any better. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Harkins and Athens Ortopedic Clinic.

Dr Harkins is a very great doctor he is very truthful and has this great spirit about himself You can really feel that he wants the best for you and want you to be able to do the things you enjoy to do in life. So far he’s made me start feeling good about getting the surgery I have to get for my shoulder. The first time I met Dr. Harkins was in 2008 when my 90 year old mother broke her hip and Dr. Harkins was on call at the hospital. He was compassionate and straight forward. The surgery went well.In 2016 I was experiencing shoulder pain. Dr. Harkins came to mind so I made an appointment to see him. After an MRI revealed I had torn my rotator cuff we discussed all options. I chose surgery and am glad I did. The surgery went well and because I was advised to start pain meds the day before I can honestly say I experienced NO pain whatsoever Recovery was right on time physical therapy was excellent.It is now 2020 and at age 72 I have injured my right shoulder...sigh. We are presently starting the process to consider all options of treatment. If surgery is the best option for complete recovery then I know I can trust Dr. Harkins and his excellent staff to correct the problem.On a personal note Dr. Harkins takes the time to answer your questions is straight forward with his answers goes over all options for treatment and does not try to talk you into any particular treatment. He just explains all options and outcomes and lets you make the final decision. He is compassionate and treats you like family and is an outstanding surgeon who has earned my trust.

Dr. Harkins gave me my right arm back. I had a total shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair. I was worried that I’d be out of work for 6 months. Here it is just a few days shy of 4 months and I’m going back to work. They’ve takin great care of me. Dr. Harkins and staff at AOC are top notch. PA Tia is the greatest.

Dr. Harkins is AWESOME Sometimes it can be frustrating and tiresome going to Doctors. Mainly because as patients we dont feel they LISTEN to us. They may hear what were telling them but they arent really listening to what were saying. I appreciate Dr. Harkins for LISTENING to what I told him I was experiencing during my visit. From my symptoms and exam Dr. Harkins determined that I had a torn rotator cuff and needed surgery. My surgery was scheduled and I am so grateful to Dr. Harkins. Im still recovering but my shoulder feels 100% better than it did prior to surgery. Hes professional he has a kind demeanor and he knows what hes doing. From scheduling to checking in for appointments and becoming a patient of Dr. Harkins its been great. I dont believe I could have received better care.

Caring doctor

Tore my meniscus and he was in my network set up an appointment with him after I had an MRI with my primary doctor. Didnt know anything about him or his office since I practice martial arts For over 14 years and wanting to get back to training I was very hesitant. I have two doctors that do martial arts with me one being an orthopedic surgeon but my insurance would not cover them. I have to say first thing that Dr. Harkins was a class act this being my first surgery I was anxious because I did not know what to expect. His assistant Nocona was there the whole time explaining and making sure I was doing well. Called before surgery and many times after just to check on me. Its been a week since my surgery and I am walking around like nothing happened. I also like the fact that the operation happened at a smaller hospital not as crazy as the large ones the whole process was calm and they took really good care of me. I would really recommend Dr Harkins to anyone who is active and needs an orthopedic doctor. I am beyond pleased with him and his team.
