List of Melvin L.C. Fussell's Reviews
I have had 2 procedures done by him so far and maybe 1 or 2 more to go for kidney stones. He is amazing. His staff is also great. Never in my life have I had a dr hold my hand and pray for me, himself, and his team before surgery. And I’ve had quite a few surgeries. He is definitely recommended.
Dr Fussell did not make me feel comfortable. I really hate that I chose him to perform my surgery. His bedside manner is non existent and he does not appear to care about the clients. I am having very bad complications post surgery and he won't bother to even listen to what I have to say. Everytime I message him I feel.as if I'm getting on his nerves. He gives this generic political answer without really trying to understand what I'm saying. If you are interested in Penuma please go elsewhere . He seems like a very knowledgeable doctor, but my experience with him has been terrible
I went to Houston Medical Center emergency room in severe pain. It was determined that I had a large kidney stone that had blocked my kidney, causing it to become enlarged and septic. They contacted the on-call physician, who was Dr. Fussell. From the moment he spoke to me and my husband, he acted as if he did not want to be there and would only do the bare minimum to get me through the holidays. He simply put in a stint on December 20th that should have been removed a few days later. They are normally removable by the patient, which I requested due to lung and heart issues and needing not to be put under anesthesia again. He made sure mine was not. I had the stint for nearly a month. I then asked that he talk to me first about my surgery and only let my family know that I made it through surgery fine and was doing okay. He stated he only wanted to speak to my husband and he would not be coming back to speak to me after I was out of surgery. I was shocked. My husband explained that I had a DNR and it was easier on the family this way. She shouldn't be the last to know. He said you are both crazy. I began to cry and was terrified. I didn't want to discuss anything more, other than to continue to say I never expected to have surgery here and didn't feel safe, as my specialist do not have privileges at this facility. He went on to explain everything he was going to do to me, after being told that I was a very private person and another reason I didn't want a doctor talking about my surgery in a waiting room full of people. He stated he would be "spreading my legs wide..." and he knew immediately that I was very uncomfortable and visibly upset, as his remarks were inappropriate. Physicians leave out details that would make the patient feel more vulnerable, embarrassed, or unsafe. He did this deliberately. He then grabbed my leg and started chanting a prayer without even asking for my consent. I normally would have been grateful, but not after being called crazy. The nurses had to call the doctor who saw me in the ER to even get pain medication and antibiotics for me, because Dr. Fussell kept stating he was not my physician and demanded another doctor to discharge me. I called Dr. Fussell's office and the staff were extremely rude, telling me that I should not have tried to see another doctor and they didn't know when they would be able to get me in. My husband reported Dr. Fussell to the hospital for not continuing my care and he never spoke to me about my surgery. The nurse stated that next time I should think twice about reporting a physician while still under their care. I think people should always have the right to speak out if they were treated unfairly, if the physician is inappropriate, unprofessional, and/or unethical without fear of retribution. He would not refer me to another physician. I never would have believed it. Other urologists stated that unless you are released, they can not take another physicians patient. So if you were harmed, you are still forced to stay with that urologist. Luckily God is my Savior and he's still in the miracle business and even though this was a long ordeal, amazing things began to happen, and I had the surgery done by a wonderful urologist and I am finally healing.
Absolutely the worst! I was referred to him to look into some of my issues. He came in and there was an automatic attitude. Don't know if i was the wrong color but it certainly began that way. He presented me some of the outcomes of my blood tests and attitude was all over the place. No recommended way ahead, it seemed as if they were ready to leave for the day and i was in the way. After I took home the blood tests, i realized that all the reference range and status were for females and all the blood advice were as if i were a female. I will never go back to him and am sorry that my Tricare money will be going there. very disappointed. When I asked for a referral to a kidney doctor he said that i should just look it up myself in google and pick one....geez, never again!
I had TURP done a couple of weeks ago for retention of fluid. Another urrologist had done this procedure about 7 or 8 years ago and it did no good. Dr. Fussell did a great job and I can urinate better than I have in 20 years. His office staff is excellent, professional and kind. Would recommend to anyone with urinary problems!
Great doctor and great staff
Dr. Fussell treated my condition empirically and after retesting, I have had a very difficult time determining the result of the retesting. Now, it appears, based on testing by another physician, that the results could not have been good. Obviously, the test results are not his fault, but the lack of follow-up demonstrates a lack of concern and poor office practices.
Bless their hearts
The entire office is so disorganized, it's quite scary. My husband has had nothing but problems communicating with both the doctor and the staff. Lisa, his PA is a very nice lady. I wouldn't take my cat there for urinary problems.
Dr. Fussell and his staff are very professional and consistently do an outstanding job!!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
