List of Gregg T Kokame Md's Reviews
Excellent doctor
Dr. Kokame is an ophthalmologist that is a retinal specialist. My mom has seen Dr. Kokame a few times and he is extremely thorough. The visits tend to be longer due to the type of practice this is. They even have a sign posted that most visits will take between 2 to 3 hours so you should be aware. The visit starts out with you getting an update on your medical history and a thorough vision exam with one of the MAs. They also give you drops to dilate your eyes. You then get pictures of the back of your eye/retina on specialized machines. This is followed by the actual visit with Dr. Kokame. He reviews the images/pictures with you and allowed us to ask questions. He then did his own specialized eye exam on my mom. He such an excellent retinal specialist and I highly recommend him!
Dr. Kokame got me back from blindness twice; he is the best in the islands; Because of the types of critical surgeries that must be performed by him, at times regular appointments may be delayed but that’s because he is treating someone who likely has a true emergency; I would wait all day and the next if necessary. He is the best. Aloha and good luck with your vision.
Doctor Kokame operated on my wife's eye. After the operation my wife went blind in that one eye. Dr. Kokame said he did not lone why she went blind. I took my wife to two other eye specialist and they were surprised Dr. Kokame did not know why. He failed to check the eye blood pressure. Another weird thing is that my wife wanted to see the Doctor because here eyes were sore two days after the operation the receptionist or person at the front desk looked at her chart, etc and said there was nothing wrong with here eye. Since when is the receptionist or even a nurse considered as a doctor. My wife is still having some issues with the eye even though she cannot see through the eye. So, two doctors know why she is blind but the surgeon does not know. You be the judge if you want to see this doctor.
Dr Kokame is excellent! Just a very kind spirit, extremely knowledgeable and very skilled surgeon. Yes, the wait times are long, but that's because he is giving attention to all his patients. Unlike other offices that rush you out before you have time to digest all the info they throw at you, Dr. Kokame spends his time making sure patient understands and is thoroughly satisfy with his explanations. He answers questions patiently and respectfully. Really very impressed and pleased with him!
Dr. Kokame was recommended to me by my retina specialist Dr. Dean Eliott at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. If your eyes are important to you, a 3 hour or even a 6 hour wait should not matter. If you want the best and you value your vision, wait time is not important. My vision has been restored three times with detached retinas in both eyes. Cataract surgery in both eyes and 20/20 in one eye. I've never had better vision my entire life @ 68 now and grateful for the expertise of Dr. Kokame and Dr. Dean Eliott.
Excellent Dr, excellent and friendly staff but the wait time is just F N ridiculous. Not once I ever been here less then 3 hours. I think I need to switch, hopefully the grass IS greener somewhere else.
I dont care what type of doctor you are, your patients should not be expected to spend 3 hours in your waiting room. A heads up when calling and making the appointment would have been nice. I'd give them NO STARS IF I COULD!
Doctors are busy, I get it. What I don't get is the 3+ hours I've had to wait for a checkup/second opinion TWO times. I didn't purposely choose Dr. Kokame, I was referred, but I am most definitely never scheduling with him again, even on a referral. If the practice is so busy, why are they accepting patients? If you want to wait in a plain waiting room for 2-3 hours at a time to see an eye doctor, go to Dr.Kokame, else find somewhere else, I know I will.
Gotta admit this guy & his practice are one of the best in Hawaii with offices at Kuakini & Pali Momi. There are so many patients that have to make special arrangements just to see them from the neighboring islands! Their waiting ROOMS are even FULL with patients & their family members! What I can't understand is they truly make a LOT of money off of their patients because they have to see them several times a year and the wait on average can be 1.5-3.0 hrs long! Why can't they put a TV in their waiting room? Are they assuming that their patients won't be able to see? Why put a slideshow of those in the practice with their pics & their credentials for us to see repeatedly for hours when they already have them on pamphlets for us to take home? Are they that in vain for they have already established that they ARE indeed exceptional retinalogists! Also, I need to add that they simply need to febreeze their waiting room (sorry, I don't mean to be demeaning but) for the last 3 times I was there, it smelled like an older gentleman's body odor that was nauseating!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
