List of Spencer Chang's Reviews
I love Dr Chang. He very efficient and explains things well.
Dr Chang is a knowledgeable and compassionate physician
It is so easy to write a review on this Website. It’s obvious that there may be some who don’t want me to succeed or be involved in the care of people Orthopedically, possibly because they are also Orthopedists and want to discredit me. Yes, I am aggressive at repairing menisci. This is a good thing and should be the goal of all surgeons. However, I also advise that there’s a 20% failure rate in the ...
I had two surgeries with Dr. Chang. In both, he promised to fix mt knee torn meniscus. Yet, in both he didn't, he didn't explain why, yet he wanted me to go for another surgery with him, to "fix it this time". After my first surgery, he said "everything is good", before the 2nd surgery, he said "maybe I didn't see the tear at first time", after the 2nd surgery he said "maybe the sutures didn't hold". ...
Read this before you let Dr. Spencer Chang operate on you. I originally choose him because he had more experience than the other surgeon I was considering. I did not account for his arrogance. I had surgery in August 2020. After surgery Dr. Chang promptly left Surgicare (to go surf) while I was in recovery (but not discharged). Approx. 18 mins post operative I experienced a medical emergency and Dr. Chang couldn't be reached for at least 3 hours. I had emergency surgery 4 hours later when Dr. Chang returned. Due to his absence Surgicare decided to transfer me to the ER for emergency surgery since Dr. Chang was not available. Moments before my transfer Dr. Chang called & told Surgicare not to transfer me. He was done surfing and returned to Surgicare. When he returned he acted as if nothing happened & arrogantly acted as if this was normal post operative behavior. I filed a grievance against him & the policy was changed but this should have never occurred.
I went to Dr. Chang with an infection on my foot. He put me into a cast, to heal up the ulcer on my big toe. It was in a cast for six months and durning that time he never did any ultra sounds or x-rays. As a result, I lost my great toe!! I would not recommend him!
I have no pain in my foot that was demolished for over 7 years I was bone to bone no cartilage I had seen 2 surgeon specialist in California they both wanted to do a totally different procedure then Dr. Chang -but the minute Dr chang started looking and explaining the mechanism of my foot damage and what he would do I was like "let's do this" !!! I wake up literally smiling because it doesn't hurt anymore it had gotten to the point where walking to the restroom was hard and when it rained my foot would ache relentlessly even my dreams at night have changed for the positive im an active person and believe I had to go through all of that for a reason maybe God slowing me down but he also brought me here to Hawaii for an amazing life which includes the hands of Dr. Spencer Chang while healing I've found online "Broken Foot" Yoga and oh my goodness I can't wait to take walks with my husband do some hiking and become the healthy woman I am intended to be !!! Thank you Doc! And also his crew at both facilities !!!
Read this before you let Dr. Spencer Chang operate on you. I originally choose him because he had more experience than the other surgeon I was considering. I did not account for his arrogance. I had surgery in August 2020. After surgery Dr. Chang promptly left Surgicare (to go surf) while I was in recovery. Approximately 18 mins post operative I experienced a medical emergency and Dr. Chang couldn't be reached for at least 3 hours. I had emergency 4 hours later when Dr. Chang returned. Prior to that the staff at Surgicare decided to transfer me to the Emergency Room for emergency surgery since Dr. Chang was not available. Moments before my transfer Dr. Chang called and told Surgicare not to transfer me...he was done surfing and was returning to Surgicare. When he returned he acted as if nothing happened and arrogantly acted as if this was normal post operative behavior. Dr. Chang excused his absence by saying "you must have some bleeding disorder because this has never happened to me." It was subsequently confirmed that I do NOT have a bleeding disorder and that the entire emergency was directly caused by Dr. Chang's absence. Only after I fired him and filed a grievance against him did he call me to acknowledge that my surgery did not go as planned. The positive to this experience is that Surgicare has taken steps to ensure Dr. Chang does not go surfing while his patients are in recovery UNLESS there is another surgeon available. I am aware that Dr. Chang is viewed as an excellent surgeon on this island, appears in the newspapers, and works on famous athletes.....I believe those are the very things that have made him into an arrogant, dangerous surgeon. Please consider this before risking further injury/trauma under Dr. Chang's care.
Poor service, was told by An orthopedist at my foot was shattered. And I need to be seen ASAP. My MRI was sent to Dr. Chang‘s office and I was given an appointment for the following Monday. When I got to the clinic I had no appointment and then they didn’t wanna do the x-ray. When I went to his office they refused to see me in the front clerk had the nerve to tell me that the doctor thinks that my foot might be healing and my foot is as big as an elephant foot. Very poor service I would not recommend this surgeon to anyone!
He was my orthopedic surgeon at Straub who treated me for 9 months and did surgery on my broken left ankle. He has excellent bedside manner, was very informative on the status of my condition, and very reassuring about my condition and recovery.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
