List of Driscoll Dan's Reviews
First went to Hawaii Vision Specialists for a second opinion. Hawaii Vision Specialists provided the most thorough workup, examinations and one to one consultation. Dr Miki’ala Souza performed 2 complete exams (1 for base line & 1 a few months later to see if any changes or degeneration had happened). Ive let things slide a bit w/COVID19, but my most recent appointment was with Dr Driscoll. Like Miki’ala Souza, it was an excellent consultation. Dr Driscoll was also pleasant, professional, knowledgeable & clearly explained options and I cant imagine how any patient could expect more. I understand he is also a very skilled surgeon,¯Thank You all at Hawaii Vision Specialists for taking great care of Big Island’s eyesight! We are capable of limited live’s without good eyesight. What ever it takes, Im confident Doctors Driscoll & Souza’s group can improve your vision, I encourage you to put your trust in them.
I went in far-sighted with good distance vision and cataracts. I opted for the premium trifocal lens with the promise of perfect vision. I came out with 20/60 vision. I couldn’t see more than a few feet away. They gave me the wrong prescription and refused to take responsibility. I was treated like it was my problem. I was told to “wait for my brain to adjust” by Dr Souza. I wasn’t allowed to see or speak with Dr Driscoll (who operated on my eye), because “that wasn’t his job” and only Dr Souza (the optician) sees patients after surgery. He finally saw me because I was seeing flashes, but he refused to acknowledge my poor eyesight. It was a horrible experience from beginning (their laser machine broke right before surgery, and I was rushed out) to end (no refund, no apologies, rude staff and doctors) and I ultimately had to travel to Oahu to have it fixed by a better doctor who gave me immediate, perfect vision!
One of the worst experiences of my life. It’s been 9 months since I had cataract surgery and an expensive PanOptix premium trifocal lens implanted by Dr. Driscoll. I went in with good distance vision and I came out with 20/60 (the limit to drive is 20/40 fyi). I was unable to function in daily life. I called and messaged for Dr. Driscoll's help, but Dr Souza (his wife) replied saying that he doesn't handle patients after surgery, that was her job. Dr Driscoll eventually also denied my problem and wrote in my records that I "was just fine" and questioned the validity of my complaint. I eventually spent a week on Oahu having the problem fixed by a good doctor. It was as simple as Lasik surgery to correct my vision. I came out of there with nearly perfect vision. Something Dr Driscoll could have done IF he accepted responsibility. It cost me $$$ to fix. I never received an apology or any attempt at making things right.
I have seen all or most of the eye car professionals in Hilo in the time that I have been here. Dr. Driscoll towers above the others. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient and helpful. I am under his continued care and have had surgeries on each eye as well. All handled with extreme competence. He is truly the best.
Went to this Dr. to have a procedure done. Long story short, we ended up having an argument because I informed him about an incident with his tech. He adamantly denied that it happened , said he trains the staff himself and it couldn’t have happened. He started to get angry at me and I could tell because he was tapping his keyboard keys heavily and loudly. I finally had to tell him that we disagree on the what happened and to drop it. No apologies from him. I could not believe I was having an argument with a professional doctor.
My experience was not directly involved with Dr. Driscoll. But in reference to his office decision to remove magazines for customers. And replace them with Christian reading materials on every table. When I asked the desk why that was the case their answer was : "We had to remove magazines for the COVID virus. That was not true. In fact when I had my prescription changed at their previous location, the COVID virus was not in effect. And again I wondered why no magazines. They offered no defense or logical answer in both cases. It's very obvious their true believer/saving souls attitude/in your face view is all about magazines distracting your attention. So rather than keep their religious beliefs PRIVATE and RESPECT customers who might not share their beliefs, they choose the rude approach. I wonder what god might say about that? I'm sure SHE would not approve of their insensitivity, obnoxiousness, callous, true believer, immature behavior. See continuing Part 2. Hawaii Vision.
Dr Driscoll removed cataracts in both eyes 4 months ago. I requested the surgeries to be scheduled back to back since I wanted it all done in one trip to Hilo. I couldn’t be happier with the results of my sugery and the changes in my life. I can now go out driving at night without being blinded by rainbow auras of other cars and lights. Clarity and color brightness were all significantly improved. I was given information on all my options for lenses, and never felt any pressure from Dr Driscoll who answered all my questions straighforwardly and knowledgably. I had great confidence in him, and he performed the surgeries skillfully, quickly, and with great back up care from the people at Hilo Surgery Center, and Dr Fitch the anesthesiologist. Highest recommendation to friends and family.
Informative
Very comfortable experience. Nice staff.
Could not ask for a better experience or a kinder, more professional group.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
