Brian Tanabe Md's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Tanabe has great bedside manner. And he is easygoing, relatable and you don't ever feel like he is trying to rush you out of an office visit. He takes the time to listen, to get to know you and your children. Glad we have him as our pediatrician.

I wish we still lived in Hawaii in order for our daughters to continue to receive care from Dr. Tanabe. He was always so kind, listened, took his time with us and just amazing. When our now 18 year old daughter was going through some really hard times in middle school, Dr. Brian didn't stop until he was able to help us find the psychiatrist our daughter so desperately needed. Not only was he so great with our daughters, he shown extreme patience and care with me...a mother that isn't always the easiest to deal with. If you're looking for a pedestrian in the Hawaii Kai area.. I'd only recommend him. (However, I must say, any doctor I worked with at this clinic were very professional and so caring.)

Having to find a pediatrician is terrifying. Being a first time parent, you have a ton of questions and fears. Everything about your child scares you! The slightest cough and you think you kid needs to be hospitalized. You only want the best for your child and you want a doctor that both you and your child will like. Dr. Tanabe is that guy! The GF likes him so much she wishes she could have him as her primary care physician. Sadly, Dr. Tanabe only does pediatrics and even though the GF is the size of a child, she will not be sharing doctors with our son. LolI highly recommend Dr. Tanabe and hope he stays with Straub moving forward.

Totally agree with Margaret D on review of Brian Tanabe. Was a little hesitant to write this review because I don't want him to become so busy that he turns into one of those pediatricians that don't have time to listen to their patients or their parents. Correctly diagnosed acid reflux (verified after being referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist) in my son after another pediatrician misdiagnosed him. Such a relief to have peace of mind after numerous attacks that included a 3:00 am emergency room visit. Great with kids. My son loves him.

Dr. Tanabe is friendly and experienced. He has a small office, and so the service is very personalized.

I've got three kids ranging in age from 4 to 10, so I've been to a few peds in my time. Dr. Tanabe ranks up there.He's the only one who noted a heart murmur on my 8 year old son. So my son's been going to the doc for 8 WHOLE YEARS and no one else found it? Yep. It's not harmful, but it's there and with all the heart problems in the family, definitely notable.He's also very up to date on the latest reports, yet if you have different info from a different doc, he tells you what he knows and then says he'll look it up to make sure. The upshot: he isn't one of those annoying docs who thinks he knows everything in the world.The one thing I don't like is when I call the office off-hours, I get no message phone number, just the message that they're closed. I still don't know if they have an on-call doc or not. Once I had to call and I called over to the Straub main line; the ped on call never DID call me back, come to think of it . Hmm.
