List of Dr. Carl Minatoya's Reviews
Dr Carl Minatoya does a good job of explaining what is going to happen before, during, and after surgery. My dad had cataract and vision correction surgery from him and I was impressed by how thorough Dr Minatoya is. The good is his skill as a surgeon and the seamless coordination between his office practice and Kuakini Hospital where he performs surgery. The bad is the long waits to be seen by him at Minatoya Eye Clinic since his practice routinely books more patients in an hour than he could possibly see.
My sister finally had her lower eyelids done a few days ago to remove the "bags" that were making her look so tired. She's on day five of her healing process and can't be happier with the results. Now that makes 4 out of 5 members of my family who has had cosmetic eye procedures done by Carl Minatoya, We are so thrilled with the results. His years of experience definitely is reflected in the beautiful results on all my sisters and Mother!
4/26/2015Dr. Carl Minatoya is a very thorough, informative and caring Ophthalmologist who definitely addresses the attention to details when it comes to the importance of eye care. With my first experience, he took his time to explain my eye condition and answered all my questions in a manner that was easily understood. I found his entire staff to be very courteous, friendly and extremely patient with the elderly. The receptionist greets you right away upon your arrival to sign in for your appointment. They even have a Japanese medical assistant on staff to translate, along with state-of-the-art equipment, and an Optometrist and optical shop on site for your total eye care. I have referred many of my family members, both young and old to the Clinic and they all have been extremely happy with the Customer Service received, including their and my results from Dr. Carl Minatoya's Cosmetic Surgery procedures for the removal of excess skin on the upper eyelids and "bags" from the lower eyelids. The results look amazingly natural! I would definitely recommend Dr. Carl Minatoya to my family and friends as a highly skilled, experienced professional in the field of eye care. Wonderful staff, wonderful service and wonderful Doctor!
Rude, arrogant, immature, treats his patients as if they're completely ignorant, and he doesn't listen. A great surgeon and a LOUSY doctor. The most uncaring health "professional" I've ever had the displeasure of having visited. The last day I saw him, instead of wishing me well, he coldly stated that my eye was too badly damaged and that he didn't think anyone could do anything for me. He made it quite clear that his concern only went as far as the eye, and anything beyond that was incidental, if not an obstacle to avoid. After having been assaulted by 4 youths with clubs and suffering the loss of use of my left eye, he was willing to approve a ridiculously short period of recovery, 2 weeks! I found a more caring GP who gave me over 2 years. At one time a suture knot became unburied, causing extreme irritation and discomfort during a trip home for Xmas. When I saw him again and told him, his response was a very childish "so????", as if it were a criticism of his work. When he proceeded to remove it from my eye under local anesthesia, he yelled at me constantly "come on!" when I found it difficult to sit still while he dug into my eye with a sharp instrument. I was too stunned to follow up with a complaint, as I should have done. I just wanted to get away from the guy lest he start throwing instruments around the room! Minatoya constantly misstated the circumstances of my injury, claiming that I'd "gotten into a fight" with someone with a baseball bat. While the injuries sustained suggested a baseball bat was the instrument of their infliction, he continued to repeat this to his colleagues, despite having been corrected on numerous occasions. Another injury I sustained was a broken nose. While his only comment was "it looks okay to me", the first words spoken by the ENT I consulted were "boy do you have a broken nose". When I informed Minatoya of this, he just shrugged dismissively. While he may act polite and caring, it's just a mask concealing a "doctor" that displays the worst aspects of surgeons who can't relate to a patient that's awake. As long as you're asleep in the OR he's okay. Beyond that, find someone else!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
