List of Eye Center Of Hawai'i's Reviews
I received treatment that was lacking in care and compassion from Dr Sarah Ho at the Waipahu location today. I have had some ongoing issues with my eyes and am looking for a solution and rather than hearing me out, I was cut off in the middle of speaking about what has being going on with my medical history and rushed through the appointment. She spoke to me with a condescending attitude. I received a prescription and a product order that I'm not happy with as well. After the doctor was finished treating me like a worthless entity and left, I broke down in tears. The assistant Cecilia was still in the room and helped me order contacts and told me about the Ala Moana location for a follow up appointment when my vision changes (as it likely will because what's going on is temporary). My appointment today was a terribly disappointing experience that I'll never forget.
They miss my reschedule appoint.
I have read the raving reviews of Bennett Eye Institute, and I am sorry to say I did not have a positive experience. The receptionist was great. Upon entering the first room, I was checked in and information was gathered. The person who was asking questions said open your eyes wide, as she was going to spray a liquid into my eyes, not explaining what or why. I had to ask. I was then taken to the second room where I was asked if my eyes had been dilated. I said no, and she asked me why. I informed her that I didn't know why. She did an examination of my eyes and sent me on to the third room. The person in this room asked me did they dilate your eyes - I said no and she said why not. Again, I repeated to her I do not know why. Next room same question, and then the doctor came in to consult with me. As a result, they did not dilate my eyes which is a necessity at age 70+. I was in this facility for one hour and twenty minutes. I only get one eye exam yearly with my insurance, and it was wasted on the incompetency of this office.
I love the folks here. They are always able to get me in quickly, & everyone is always lovely,. From the minute you walk in, you're greeted with warmth and made to feel welcome. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, quick, and efficient. Dr. Kellen Kashiwa, OD, is always friendly, very professional, listens to issues, works hard to resolve them, & is even able to remember small details from previous visits. I have a difficult prescription and have visited several other ODs prior to BEI, but no one was able to get my prescription where I wasn't still struggling to see. Dr. Kellen ordered a specialty brand that many docs aren't even able to fit for their clients (SynergEyes), and the office even paid to have it rush delivered (2-day air) to another island for me! I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here, and I'm so grateful to them for working with me. It's lovely to be able to see again <3 Thanks so much you guys!!!
I had a very pleasant new patient visit! Every staff member I encountered were all so nice and polite. Dr. Miller was so kind, knowledgeable, & reassuring. I’m so happy I found a new ophthalmology clinic!
Zane is da best Eva . thank you for sending me both of the suction cups to pick up my contact lenses. tell Dr cuz you are to give you guys everybody a raise. just like that
I had the LENSAR Laser eye surgery. Within a couple of months one eye was cloudy again after this EXPENSIVE surgery. I was better off staying with my contacts.
Superb service. Great staff (everyone). Clean and well equipped hospital. Saved our trip to Oahu
Bennett Eye Institute is excellent! I was in Hawaii for vacation and ended up with an eye floater. I called and they got me in that morning. They did some tests and Dr John Dick carefully examined my eye and explained what was going on, what to expect, and what I needed to do next. I would highly recommend them and Dr Dick for your retina problem.
This review is not for Dr. Michael Bennett, it's for my experience getting an eye exam for contact lenses here. I had my regular eye exam in California about 4 months ago. Since I just got my dental and vision insurance here in Hawaii, I decided to try contact lenses. I had to wait two weeks in order to secure a reservation, so I did not expect that I need to wait so long to get the exam. My appointment is at 12:30 pm and they even asked me to come 15 minutes earlier. Since I have already filled out all forms and provided all insurance and ID information online, so I spent most of my time here just waiting for the exam. I waited for about 20 minutes for the first assistant to perform the initial exam and it took about only 5 minutes. Then I was sent to another room for another long wait for my optometrist. While waiting, I can hear a doctor having a casual conversation with a patient for few minutes about how he is getting shorter. I thought how nice is that doctor chatting with his patient during his lunch break. Later I found that he is my doctor. I didn't see Dr. Kashiwa until 1:20pm, that's a 50-minute wait time. The entire eye exam took almost two hours and I left at 2:20pm. How can people with a job or things to do fit an eye exam here in their daily schedule? The second assistant was very patient guiding me to put on contact lenses. It's her second day working there, and she is doing her best. The second reason for a two star review is that they try to get your personal information very hard even it has nothing to do with the eye exam. I already filled out all forms online one day before the appointment including providing my primary physician's name in California. They kept asking my where do I work, my occupation and my primary physician again. Since I don't remember how to spell my primary physician's name, so I just asked is it necessary for just an eye exam. She said no. Then I said I don't want to provide my personal information. But then she asked again. It seems she is instructed to get all my personal information even I already said no. In the end I had to tell her to stop. I know it sounds cold to tell her to stop. But she wouldn't stop asking even after I already said no several times. I am pretty sure that she was trained to ask repeatedly until the patient gives in and provide unnecessary personal information. But I already said no enough times. I will never go back to this place again. I will probably try a different optometrist in Honolulu to get another eye exam. A two-hour eye exam with a total less than 5 min with an optometrist is not something I would rely on. There must be another place in Honolulu more efficient and professional than this place. Updates: I changed my review to one star after I check my insurance coverage. My plan covers 100% contact lens fit, but I was charged for $50. When I asked isn't that covered by my insurance, the lady at the front desk said no. But later she asked me how much is my copay? That means she never checked my insurance plan.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
