List of Tawni Gesteuyala Md's Reviews
Dr.Tawni, is such a great pediatrician to my son. From the hospital visits to the checkup visits, her care is beyond 5 stars. She is knowledgeable, kind and easy to talk with. Her fellow Doctors that she works with are also great! I experienced this after giving birth to my son. Dr. Tawni would round every morning to see how he was doing, and on days where she couldn't, she would have her partnership Doctor, Dr. Ching to round on her behalf. He was excellent too! As a first time mother, I am beyond happy with the decision to go with Dr. Tawni Gesteuyala as our pediatrician. My son is a healthy and happy baby thanks to the great care provided by Dr. Tawni and her staff. Thank you again!
Best pediatrician on the planet. She cares about my kids and my family and it really shows. Super thorough and smart. I highly recommend her to anyone that cares about their kids. ;)
Dr. G was amazing! We just moved here in January and my daughter had an incredible pediatrician back in AZ, so I was really worried I wouldn't find someone who would match the level of care and bedside manner as our previous pediatrician, but she was every bit as fantastic. She was kind, her staff was patient, and I felt listened to as a mother. I am happy to continue going to her.
Dr. G is amazing! She's so kind and professional. I chose her because a good friend of mine recommended her and I wasn't disappointed! I live in Waianae and I don't mind making the drive to see her! She's awesome. Highly recommend!
First off- Dr. Tawni Gesteuyala is a FANTASTIC physician who cares for not only my two sons, but many other pediatricians' children. That alone should tell you how respected she is in her profession. She takes the time both during and after the visit to ensure that she is doing what is best for your child. The main reason for this review was to address the comments from C.O. I wanted to let that parent know that as a company, we practice this policy as a professional courtesy to the other physicians. I know almost every Pediatrician in Honolulu and know that each and everyone in our profession is not only qualified, but have the ultimate goal of ensuring we provide the best possible care for your child. If someone was unhappy with the service I or my staff provided, I would hope that they could let us know so that we could either correct it or improve on it for next time. We try to form a bond/relationship with our patients and families that will grow through the years. That being said if you are merely looking for a second opinion or doctor shopping I don't think that it would be a good fit for our practice.Dr. Tawni is very thorough and does not cut corners. She orders the tests which are necessary to properly assess or treat your child. She goes above and beyond for all her patients which was evident when she spent over 3 hours with one of her patients in the ER. If you are lucky enough to be one of her patients you can rest assure that you are in good, capable hands.
WE LOVE DR. TAWNI!! She is constantly taking the needs of your child and their circumstances and addresses them head on. We are truly grateful we found her and thankful to those who gave us the great recommendation!!:)
We love Dr. Tawni and her staff! She's great with kids of all ages, knows how to communicate with the parents and is someone we fully trust. It's very easy to get appointments when our child is sick and Dr. Tawni will spend the necessary time to ask us questions and explain things during our kids' wellness visits. Although parking at the Kapahulu Medical Clinic (where the office is) can be a pain, as long as you arrive a few minutes early, you can always get a parking stall. If Dr. Tawni isn't available, we are very comfortable with having our kids see Dr. Ching, who is also a great doctor, as well. We would highly recommend sending your kids to Dr. Tawni!
Last year we decided to switch pediatricians for our 2 year old son. I was referred to two pediatricians, one of whom was dr tawni. I called to schedule an interview, but when I did, her staff informed me that in order to get my son's files from his current pediatrician I would have to be the one to call them, tell them that we would no longer be seeing them, and request that they send all of my son's medical history to dr tawni. I was very taken back by this as I have never heard of this process before. Every time i have ever switched doctors in the past, the new doctors office would take care of all of this. I asked her staff why I was the one that had to make this call and they informed me that dr tawni does not want to step on any other Doctor's toes or give them the impression that she is taking their patients and would rather me do it to show that she is a neutral party. I had a huge problem with this. It's not the fact that she wanted me to call, because I would have had no problem with that. If it's for the betterment of my son, I could care less what anyone thinks, let alone a doctor who is providing subpar service in my opinion. My problem is with a doctor that is too scared to "step on another doctor's toes" for the wellness of my child and a doctor who puts their comfort ahead of their patients. Obviously something has happened between me and my son's current pediatrician that is bad enough to make me leave. And now, even though she knows the circumstances of us leaving (because her staff asked me why we were choosing to leave), she still wants me to make that telephone call? Like I said previously, I wouldn't mind in calling, but that's not to say every other parent would feel the same. It could be a very uncomfortable situation for them, why put them through even more by telling them that they are the ones who have to make that phone call? More importantly, though, if this is her policy because she is too scared of the impression that it will give to other doctors, then what else is she unwilling to do for my child based on how she will be looked at by others? Will she cut corners, will she recommend unnecessary things, all of which revolve around her doing so based on how she is looked at? I know there are people who will say that I am blowing this out of proportion and that this does not in any way reflect the actual service that she provides. This is true. But this negative article is not based on a simple conversation that we had that could have been misinterpreted or took place during a bad day for her. It's her policy. And it's not the actual policy, but rather the reasoning behind the policy, that makes me very glad that we went with another pediatrician.
Love love love Dr. Tawni and her staff! Our former pediatrician wouldn't take our adopted child as a patient because he considered her a "transfer patient." Much as we loved him, we had to look elsewhere to keep our kids together at the same pediatrician.I called a dozen doctors. No takers. All the pediatricians were either closed to new patients entirely, or only taking newborns. Dr. Tawni was the only doctor who would accept both my biological son and my adopted daughter together as patients. Best luck ever! She is amazing. Even though I really liked our old pediatrician, I love Dr. Tawni so much more. She is great with kids, but also with parents. She is so patient, doesn't laugh at my dumb questions, and calls with lab results immediately, even if they're not urgent tests. She explains things thoroughly, and takes concerns seriously. She's funny and personable, and knows her stuff. I know my kids are in great hands with her.Her partners are great doctors too. Dr. Ching formerly worked in the NICU at Kapiolani, and Dr. Young is extremely knowledgeable. There have been occasions when I've had to see them instead of Dr. Tawni, and they were just as wonderful as she is. Once, my infant son spiked a 105 degree fever. Dr. Tawni was not available, so I had to see Dr. Young. I was very concerned - he'd never had a fever like that before and until the labs came back, we couldn't be sure what it was. Dr. Young gave me his cell phone and his home phone number and told me to call him immediately if my son took a turn for the worse, or if his staff didn't call me by 6pm with lab results and instructions. Seriously! It made me feel much better about going home instead of to the ER.They are also great about being on call for late night and weekend concerns. I've had to call twice with concerns about my children, and of course, each time was after 10pm. I hate to bother doctors late at night, but I just wasn't sure if I needed to go to an ER, or wait to see the doctor the next day. Both times it was Dr. Ching who was on call, and he didn't seem bothered at all that we called so late. Her staff is also fantastic. They are sooo good with the kids, great about following up, and very accommodating. They are personable and funny too, and they remember each kid very well. The only downside about Dr. Tawni's practice is the parking lot. That garage is terrifyingly small, and always over crowded. I will sometimes park on the street just to avoid the sheer terror of having to squeeze my oversized minivan into a tiny stall. If you are looking for a great pediatrician whom you can trust and your kid can grow up with, Dr. Tawni is it!
Dr. Gesteuyala is very kind, warm, loving, and sweet. I deducted 1 star because the staff is hit or miss. The other downside is that sometime there is no parking, so you park several blocks away which normally would not be too bad, but for the following factors: (1) The many homeless and tents on the way walking to the Dr.'s Office; and (2) if your child is sick with a fever and vomitting, he/she will have difficulty walking even a few blocks (and you can't leave your child at the office building while you park far away if your child is too young to be left alone in the parking lot). The parking attendant is helpful but often seems very stressed out. The 2 out of 3 times I've gone there, I've been told there was no parking at all so I had to park somewhere else. Though the doctor is very important, parking and staff responsiveness are important considerations as well.
