List of David Kuchenbecker, Md's Reviews
I saw him years ago for what I will just describe as a "bleeding" problem. Upon examination, he assured me that the problem was minor and required no treatment. But he also found that my prostate was seriously enlarged. He remarked that my "bladder must be compensating well" for the prostate enlargement and offered no recommendations or further treatment for that, either. In fact, he might have recommended a course of medication which would have helped to slow, or even halt, the growth of my prostate but he did not. Now, years later, after maintaining a very healthy diet and lifestyle, with no relevant family history, I've developed some kidney dysfunction. Chronic benign prostate enlargement is the only logical explanation for my kidney problem. And it could have been avoided if Dr. K had intervened years ago. Thus, in my opinion, he acted irresponsibly.
He was a pretty good urologist but he has retired.
I never got to make an appointment with Dr kuchenbecker because his rude Receptionist refused to make an appointment for me because she did not want the doctor accepting any more new patients. Ridiculous! I guess she does not want to add to her workload.
Dr. David was very professional and helped me on short notice. The receptionist everyone complaining about was actually quite cordial.
Sadly, the doc isn't to blame for this poor review. The office receptionist was extremely poor in personality, very rushing, completely rude & had the nerve to try & persuade us to go to a different doctor for her desire to be off of work at 4:30p. She complained to me about the parking, the traffic home for her & she did "not want the doctor spending a minute past 4:30p with a patient". She asked if we wanted to seek a town side doctor even after I told her we lived in Kailua. She dismissed my question of when the next available appointment was by reiterating that a town doctor is open later than her last appointment. Why she was stuck on not taking in new patients when the doctors bio clearly states that he's accepting new patients, is beyond me. She was erratic and forceful in not wanting any new business. It made me wonder if the doctor knew she treated prospective patients like this. If he does, we don't want to be his patients, anyway. What a poor, poor choice in receptionists.
My elderly father has been seeing Dr. Kuchenbecker for a few months after a urologic problem requiring monthly visits. He is an excellent Doctor, very professional. I have found him to be quite approachable, and willing to answer questions, and take the time to make sure you feel heard. His front office Nurse Mary has been very helpful and willing to give excellent advice and direction to me. I was inexperienced in the help needed to give my father, and she explained the steps I would need to follow and offered her help if I should need advice in the future. My father and I are very glad that he is under Dr. Kuchenbeckers care. And we enjoy seeing Mary every month during our visits. We would highly recommend them both!
I've never met a more rude, aggressive, and unprofessional individual working in health care. I got a call from his receptionist regarding one of my patients and she immediately started berating me and threatening to never accept another patient from my employer again. The issue? The patient, a competent and independent adult, didn't have a nurse escort. I was so caught off guard by her aggressive manner and threats that I didn't even try to discuss the matter. When my patient had another follow-up with the doctor, I personally escorted them to the office, taking time away from my other patients. Why she needed me there and threatened my employer I will never know. The doctor met with patient alone while I waited in the waiting room, wrote down his progress note, and gave it to my patient. Please take note, she recently called my employer again and reported that the doctor no longer accepts Medicare. This is unfortunate since he sees a lot of patients at Castle Medical Center and they don't usually have a say which urologist they get seen by while inpatient. If they have Medicare, they will have to find a different urologist to go to for follow-up care once they are discharged back home.
I find Mary a cheerful and competent receptionist. I find Dr. Kuchenbecker a very competent doctor who diagnosed my prostate cancer, giving me Lipton and referring me to Dr. Lederer for prostate seeding and a series of radiation sessions. I will see him in June and hopefully will not get another Lupron shot.
Great doctor. Very smart and focused on my care. However, his office manager did not match Dr K's level of professionalism and care. She made it VERY clear it was getting close to the end of the day and that "we are out of here at 4:30!". Certainly did not feel she cared about anything except getting out of the office by 4:30. Won't go back to Dr K. I'm certain there are other Urologists as good as Dr. K is but with a professional and caring office staff.
Couldn't give him lower than 1 star or I would. He has a nurse/receptionist that is the rudest office staff that I've every experienced in the medical field. Must be his wife, can't imagine who else would put up with her antics. The Castle ER doc's called this doctor to advise him I was in ER, after I'd already been seen by him in his office. Even though I had a HUGE kidney stone that they (ER doctors) felt needed to be dealt with, he still refused to come down and do the removal procedure even at the request of ER doctor. Ended up in ER again next 48 hours and admitted after that, Kuchenbecker came by the next day after not letting me eat for 30+ hours and said he would do the removal procedure on Thursday "as scheduled" (it was now Tuesday) and expected me to lay around hospital waiting in pain. Said if his nurse could work me into his schedule maybe he could do it Wed. evening. I left hospital AMA (against medical advice) to find another urologist that actually cares about his patients and the amount of pain their in and who doesn't think he's above the opinions of 2 ER doctors and 1 hospital internist. What an ego, don't use him unless you're prepared to fit your problem into his golf game schedule. Maybe he's afraid of his tyrant of a nurse and "her schedule". On the flip side my patient care and level of treatment at Castle Hospital and ER (twice) was excellent with the exception that Kuchenbecker is the only urologist on staff that can remove an 11mm kidney stone. Lucky for me he's not the only one on the island, there are better urologists out there, take some time and do the research you'll be all the better for it.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
