List of George Powell Md's Reviews
My mom was referred by her PCP. Our 1st visit was confusing and felt rushed. He comes in the room and says "Why are you here today", which makes us think wow did he even read the notes from our PCP? He also told us that we had to call his office for Lab results instead of them calling us. I would think the doctor would call to discuss the results. We waited an hour just for my mom to get a B12 shot. On one of my moms follow up visits she was told after she got her shot that the lab work form was sent to clinical labs. We went to clinical labs a week later and they didn't have an order. The receptionist at his office said they would get back to us and its been, 3 days and no response. Im not sure what is going on in their office but we will seek treatment elsewhere.
he was very non committal about my condition. He also wouldn't request a bone density scan or prescribe any anti-pain meds despite back pain and that my MRI stated "degenerative disc disease" with arthritis. All completely valid reasons for him to make the requests. Instead he pushed me off to my primary doctor and told them to take care of it. Definitely not recommended.
Worst place ever!! I saw Dr Powell over 3 years ago and again a month ago. he didn’t know why I was there even though the paperwork told him fibromyalgia, migraines, etc. 🚫 He lacks knowledge and care. 🚫 He doesn’t think “fibromyalgia or whatever it is” (his words) is a real condition. 🕒 It use to take 1-2 hours in the waiting room just to be seen. Since COVID 19, I’m seen within 5-10 minutes. But it might go back to the old ways... but I won’t know since I’m not going back to him again.
My husband is Dr Powell’s patient and I have found him to be honest and forthright with my husband and I on the care of my husband!! He is good to talk to and will listen and answer any questions we might have!!! We are blessed to have him on our team!!!!!
I have a couple of visit after a severe concussion, well I’m very disappointed . Him never show interest or give me confidence. He didn’t know why I was there , I think him needs to see a doc ASAP ! You will see the nonsense old Christmas light at front desk , I was very sensible to lights and bright colors back them ! I speck a better place for a neurologist office and wait until you see his shirts .
I had a scheduled appointment and it took two hours from walking in, to walking out and he spent 3 minutes with me. I was in so much pain that I was constantly shifting in my seat. A patient who had signed in, and waited about 5 minutes was called in by the nurse before me. I looked up at the reception area and the nurse when I realized that I was being "skipped over". The the receptionist started to say "But, she was... (here first)....", when the nurse cut her off and said "He's (the patient who just walked in) more important". I almost started crying because I was in so much pain and had no other option/choice of doctors. He's the only one on Maui who takes my insurance. He's a self righteous, know it all, poor bedside manner, doctor. Those are the scariest doctors of them all. Worst of all? I'm going to have to see him again, as he's "my neurologist". The only positive thing I can say about him, is that he believes my illness (chronic fatigue syndrome AKA myalgic encephalomyelitis) is real and not psychosomatic. Even though he knows this, he still treated me as if he didn't care. But, that day I was seeing him for severe neck problems. Not, ME/CFS.
Dr. Powell is very knowledgeable and helpful. His thoughtful approach to my rather complex and unusual case has thoroughly impressed me. He coordinates very well with other specialists and will think outside the box when ordinary treatments aren't helpful. it is refreshing to find a specialist on Maui who is forward thinking and creative when necessary. He has tailored my treatment to me, instead of trying to force me into standard protocols that were unhelpful.
I waited for 2 hours writhing in pain, while a patient who just walked in was seen before me. When the receptionist noticed that the nurse called in patient will just walked in, they started to say "She was here first". The nurse cut the receptionist off and said "He's (the patient who had been waiting 5 minutes) more important". Unfortunately, he's the only neurologist on the island that takes my insurance. Poor bedside manner. From what I hear around the "grapevine" he's either really good to his patients, or really awful. He treated me poorly.
My husband has been waiting 7 months for a diagnosis. First it was a cancerous tumor, them it was a. Ischemic stroke, then it was a possible anuerysm. He ordered numerous tests at MMG and at MMMC and both radiologists read the results differently. He is not prepared when you go in for your visit, he doesn't rad your test results until he is in the exam room and he keeps giving us the run around. I finally demanded to see another doctor on Oahu.
I found him unconcerned about how long people wait, happy to discuss off-topic interests with whichever patient he is with, at great length. He was less than supportive, and rather non-committal in answer to my questions about my stroke-induced symptoms. He also had nearly two months to read my chart and request records from the hospital. Now he wants another consultation to review these items. At $45 a visit, it’s likely to be a $90 net cost, plus inconvenience, to hear essentially what I already know.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
