Avera Holy Family Hospital's Online Review Report Card

Was there today being seen in same day surgery for a telehealth appointment with a specialist in Sioux Falls. The first nurse, Tressa, was wonderful. However, the next nurse I seen, Amanda, kept my door wide open while she stood in the hall asking me why I was there and what I was being seen for (there for a very personal matter), it felt as if any privacy I had at that point didn't exist. Throughout my telehealth visit with this specialist, Amanda kept my door halfway open while very personal information was being shared. Not only that, but often could hear them speaking right outside my door. I am aware there was a patient in the room next to me, that also had their door open. I am usually very laid back about stuff, but being seen for very personal reasons with alot of information being given in the appointment, it feels my privacy was of no concern.

Today was very stressful day for me I called 911 for my mom who come to find out had a heart attack and had to be air flighted to Sioux Falls I can express the heartfelt gratitude I have for every single person from the Ambulance crew to the flight crew how they handled the situation and even took the time to ask me how I'm doing God bless each and every one of you you are always in my heart and so you all know she got to Sioux Falls they did their scan and put in 2 stints and by 9 pm tonight she was on the phone making calls she's doing good... Seriously thank you all so very much from the Berry family we love you

Excellent facility for a small town hospital and clinic. I have been going there for over 40 years and have always been treated with compassion by Excellent staff.

I recently moved here from New England over the summer. My experience with this hospital was in the ER I had severe sciatic pain in my hip and leg and went to seek treatment to manage it for a few days while I waited to be able to see my primary at another clinic for long term treatment. The Doctor who worked with me was incredibly rude. The whole time I was waiting in the exam room for him to come in after the nurses took my vitals I could hear every degrading word he said outside in the hall saying I was a waste of time, that my pain isn’t really a problem and that I probably have Covid because I work in education. I have had this pain for almost three years off and on working with Physical therapists and chiropractors and sure it’s definitely being caused by “Covid”. Not once did he make eye contact or even try to look at me. He belittled me the whole time. After I confronted him about his behavior I left without treatment. When I got home I opened up the Avera chart app to read the report and find the doctors name to file a complaint only to find he had lied multiple times about the appointment on the report. I have never been so disrespected by a healthcare professional. I left in tears and beyond furious with Dr David Ruzicka. I am writing this review to hopefully help people avoid him and his awful behavior.

This is the worst excuse of a hospital I’ve ever experienced in my life. The staff are insanely rude and unprofessional. The Doctor’s that work there are equally as bad. When I had to live in, Iowa. I was shocked, I couldn’t believe how bad the health care services were. I feel so bad for anyone who has to go to this absolute joke of a hospital. If you can, literally go anywhere but here.

The staff was okay but they don't listen to parents on the kids it's a Band-Aid hospital won't go there again unless I have to

I travel all over and have been in a number of ERs. I'm aware that some bad actors are no longer allowed to work at this ER. On several visits I encountered only capable, polite and helpful staff at all levels, including doctors and nurses, housekeeping and food service, lab and xray techs - everyone. I'm confident that they do an excellent job within their capabilities, and refer or transfer when needed.

I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to anyone. Used it for a medical procedure in March 2020. Did not realize the Co-pay on procedure was so high. HFA demanded a payment that I wasn’t able to meet. Told them it would be several months before I could do their amount. Mind you, I was making all but $32 of that payment. They didn’t ask why I couldn’t meet it, they didn’t care. This is during COVID. I’ve paid 25% of this bill to date (October) and they turned me into collection. Really? I’m making payments on this bill every two weeks faithfully, paid 25% of the bill in 6 months and you are sacrificing 50% of the balance due to a collection agency who is just happy I’m already paying you because now it’s free money. I don’t know who your CEO is, but they are an idiot.
