Experienced and competent. Very happy under his care.

This was a waste of my time and money. 1. Out of my insurance network. Spend 3 weeks getting approval to go to the Hernia clinic at U of I. I was approved to see a Dr. Dionne Skeete and for some reason saw Dr. Peter Nau. Will my insurance cover this visit??????????? 2. The first thing he said to me was I have to quit smoking. Won't treat me until 8 weeks tobacco free and will be tested for nicotine . Seriously, last time I checked smoking was not illegal. He made me feel like a nasty criminal. Had abdominal surgery 2 years ago at the University of Iowa, smoking then, no problems healing. 3. He said since I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and hernia repairs with mesh (I am a mess) that he would not open me up to repair, only do a laparoscopy repair. But, it probably won't fix it. Oh well no big deal was his fibe. 4. He explained about layers of abdominal wall and mine probably hasn't broken through the outer layer????? Seriously, I asked then what is this very large mass in my abdomen???????????????????? He didn't answer or care. 5. What about the excruciating pain I am experiencing at least 3 days per week???? He wasn't concerned or offered any relief. I have had 4 surgeries since 1998 at the University and have always been very pleased with the care and quality of the Professionals that have treated me. Yesterday was the worst appointment with any Dr I have ever had. It was quite obvious to me that Dr Nau was not up for the challenging surgery that my Hernia repair would require and was grabbing at reasons to brush me off. So disappointed in the Hernia clinic if this is the care you are providing.

Dr. Nau successfully removed my gall bladder. Compared to friends who had other physicians do the same thing, my recovery time seemed shorter and less painful. Later another physician performed another procedure on me for a different matter. Dr. Nau involved himself in that procedure too, making sure that the issues he treated me for were resolved and to see if his skills were needed here. He's a good man. I highly recommend him. He also has great patient skills and a good sense of humor. He put me at ease during difficult times.

He was very helpful explaining procedures to me and responding back when needed!!
