I believe I seen Dr. Beck in February of 1986 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic. If this is the doctor who operated on me, I just want to say hello and thank you for the pleasure of knowing you and the fine work you performed. I am 73 years old and doing fine.
Dr Beck knew I was scared and he treated me with kindness. He is a wonderful doctor. When he talked to me I just knew everything was going to be all right.
I had my first spine surgery in 2012, at which time Dr.Beck said to stop smoking prior to my operation. His gentle attitude made me want to do my best! So, I did quit smoking & never looked back! Subsequent operations were needed & all went perfectly! Latest surgery was grueling, but I couldn't have a better neurosurgeon than Dr. Beck! THANK YOU,!
I was in an accident and Dr beck was the kindest doctor. I then had to have another surgery and he’d moved to Mason City. He is truly the greatest. I’m so grateful to him.
Great doctor !! Spent alot of time with me to explain everything. highly recommend !
Dr. Beck revived my life. After I tripped in the night and pinched a my spine, I was losing all feeling in my body and hard to breath. I had about 3 inches of no spinal fluid. He released pressure and the fluid is rebuilding. He fixed things in me that I'd had trouble with since a wreck 25 years ago. It's so wonderful feeling so much better. Thank you Dr. Beck😘
Dr. Beck is the the best neurosurgeon out there in my opinion! In 2019 I ruptured my L5/S1 disc and was ruptured for 7 months before my family practitioner finally did an MRI and referred me to Dr. Beck. After 7 months of being ruptured, he was skeptical that even he could get my left achillies reflex to come back because the damage had been going on so long. He was a miracle worker! After my laminectomy/discectomy I had full function of that leg and foot back. In March 2021 I started to have sciatica and complete numbness in my left leg again. We did an MRI and it showed what looked like a disc bulge and nerve compression at the L5/S1 so I went back to Dr. Beck. This time we had to try an epidural injection and Physical Therapy to sastify the insurance compay before her could operate. Since neither of those worked, I had surgery at the L5/S1 level on April 30, 2021. What he found when he got in there is that I had formed a large bone spurr in the left foreman thereby compressing the nerve. He removed the bone spurr and I am well on my way to recovery already! My uncle had a rupture at the L5/S1 and he has permanent nerve damage despite having a good surgeon and being not much older than myself. I mention that because it shows what a top caliber surgeon Dr. Beck is! He truly is the best of the best and his team is as well! Kurt Lamers his PA, is extremely personable and extremely knowlegeable. Despite not wanting to have surgery, I was very calm going in because I had every confidence that they were going to get me back to "living" not just "existing". I highly recommend them to anyone with a surgical back issue!
I came 2 Iowa from Georgia and had 2 have an Emergency craniotomy for a massive brain tumor. He & his team saved my life and three year's later I can call them with any issues I have. I love them and am forever grateful to them
I had my first back surgery at 27. I’m now 47 and still see Dr Beck. I’ve had three major back surgeries, neck surgery, and lots of other procedures. I now have a pain pump and see him every 3 months for a refill. He is very knowledgeable. I’m not looking forward to the day he retires :( Kurt his assistant and Esther his nurse are amazing too! All the staff are very friendly!
First time visiting Dr Beck he asked me where my pain was and i showed him then he checked my reflexes. After checking my reflexes he tells me your spine is perfectly fine there is nothing i can do for you. I told him that's not what my MRI report says and what other Doctors have told me. Dr Beck turned red in the face with a big sigh left the room and grabbed his computer that he didn't even bring into the room from the start. We review the MRI and Dr Beck says even if this area was extremely severe i wouldn't be able to help you as its to dangerous to operate in this area. He says have you tried injections i said yes he says don't do them as they are not good for you. Then he asked me have you tried Chiropractic, Massage,Yoga, P.T. i said yes i have. He then tells me my pain is from being a robust man. Sorry he is way off with that statement that is not the case of pain as i have been a bigger guy my whole adult life and haven't always had pain. Bedside manner is nonprofessional and wasn't helpful at all. I would recommend seeing someone else if you can.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
