I woke up today thinking about. Terrible visit I’d had with Dr Ball over 7 years ago and felt compelled to document. His tact and grace is null. I have never felt so shamed and treated like a failure as he made me feel. I cannot believe he is allowed to be alone in rooms with young women.
I came in to see if I needed glasses because my night driving was getting a little dicey.. He said I didn’t need to do anything and to “just don’t drive at night, or have someone drive for you” 😂😂 what His prognosis in general felt lazy and dismissive, I left feeling discouraged
I haven’t seen Dr Ball in several years since he did my eyelid surgery. However every day when I look in the mirror and see how he disfigured me with his poor skill in doing a surgery in hindsight I now know he should not be doing I think of him and wonder how many others he has done this to? I am sure he is a adequate eye doctor but he should leave it at that. Only a plastic surgeon should be doing eyelids.
Very good eye doctor...Knows what he is doing. Would highly recommend him.
I have seen Dr. Ball for about five years now for my glaucoma. It was a surprise to me when my optometrist said my eye pressures were twice normal and I needed to see an eye surgeon ASAP. I read about Dr. Ball online, and from what I can tell, he is known as one of the top glaucoma surgeons and specialists in the country! He has performed three successful laser surgeries on my eyes. I find him to be a serious but very personable doctor who is willing to explain anything to me, and he has a sense of humor. He is busy, but he does what he needs to do and then is off to the next patient. One thing about how they run things at Des Moines Eye Surgeons where is he, (and also I know Wolfe Clinic also), is that you will be shuttled from one waiting room to the next until you actually see the doctor. It is well run, with plenty of nurses and medical assistants, but it can be an hour or an hour and a half before you are out of there. With Covid-19 now, the five or so doctors on staff there alternate days they come in, so the large main and the other waiting rooms are not packed as they are when all the doctors are in. Today, in all the large waiting rooms I was in, there were at most four people - well spread out. My only complaint was that one guy wore his mask under his nose. I just stayed about 20 feet away from him. As for Dr. Ball again, I give him top marks for his abilities, personality and communication skills, compared to many other doctors I have seen over the past 15-20 years especially. All of the staff are very good and friendly, which helps also.
He has terrible bedside manners. Unfriendly and as another patient mentioned...in a hurry.
Good provider for myself(58 yrs old), and elderly parents (80-90yrs) friendly ,professional staff.
Not a good experience at all. I was scheduled for the last surgery of the day for my eyelids. First I went fine, by the time we got to the second eye whatever the shot I was given for pain had worn off. I told him so he gave me another shot and just kept going without giving it time to work. I could feel every decision he made and he had to know it I told him and I was so tense that my blood pressure was almost 200 by the time I got into recovery. A lot of pain because he was in a hurry
WATCH HOW OFTEN YOU SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT! IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE DOCTOR AT LEAST EVERY THREE YEARS YOU WILL BE CHARGED A NEW PATIENT FEE OF 294.00$. While I think Dr. Ball is a fine doctor this practice will cause me to find a new Dr.
I have excellent care with Dr. Ball.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
