Dr Tate Olaveson was very knowledgeable and I knew I was in good hands. He has a reputation of being one of the best and most respected in his field. Even though surgery wasn't applicable in my situation, he still helped me on my journey to finding an end to my pain. Dr. Olaveson did a great surgery getting my gall bladder removed. He was very prompt with bed side manners, but that didn't bother me too much since as a surgeon I get it that he has a lot of demanding things ok his mind and just wants to do a thorough job. His nurses were the absolute best and were so sweet and thoughtful and held my hand through everything. I work at the hospital and was informed thay Dr. Olaveson and Summers are great surgeons to go to and they were right!

Performed a routine colonoscopy on a family member and ‘pushed too hard’ (his own words at their follow up appointment). One emergency surgery, two different hospitalizations and eight weeks of a nurse coming to their home for twice daily wound care later, he couldn’t even offer an apology, simply a celebration that he’d spared her from having a colostomy bag.

Performed a routine colonoscopy on a family member and ‘pushed too hard’ (his own words at her follow up appointment). After her emergency surgery for bowel perforation, his celebration in post op was that he had spared her the burden of a colostomy bag. She was readmitted to the hospital after discharge due to major infection. She spent eight weeks with a nurse coming to the house twice a day for wound care. No apology was ever offered. I would never trust Dr Olaveson

Dr Olaveson consulted my husband about his long standing double hernia and recommended surgery. But he also reviewed with him an additional problem and coached him on how to treat it without surgery. He did the hernia surgery and was very thorough with directions for wound care and what to do and not do as he healed. He was very helpful with my concerns and also has kept me well informed so that I can efficiently help with his healing.

Dr. Has a very dry & questionable bedside manner. He almost acts as if you as the patient are a burden to him there is no since of emergency to help find answers or a path forward. The nurses on the 3rd floor almost act as if they are intimidated or scared to call him because they say he is a grump! Not ok !

Unsuccessful surgery. Tried to do a follow up from an umbilical hernia surgery because the hernia returned and I've been experiencing abdominal pain. Set an appointment at 3:30 today, waited a full hour without being seen. Staff said he was away and would "be right there." Left at 4:30. Never going back.
