Please don't reference this physician to anyone you love or care about. Wyuhinny is short on words, cruel, does not prepare you for the exam he will do on you. He is rough, unapologetic, shouts out commands, and will make you sorry you came to that office. Its an Orwellian experience.
I have been seeing Dr. Wyhinny since Dec. 2018 and I could not ask for a better or more experienced retina specialist. I don’t know why others are unhappy with him, but is always pleasant, professional and answers all questions. He has tons of experience and I trust him implicitly with guarding my eyesight.
This doctor had a very unpleasant personality that affected my experience. His directions during the treatment we’re not always clear, and he would angrily repeat the command if not followed. He asked me not to close my eye during the procedure but when on two occasions he pinched my skin with his finger nail against my eye socket I winced and he scolded me not to do so. They scheduled me for a follow up but I have no intention of ever seeing this doctor again!
this physician is the most impersonal physician i have encountered. sometimes greeted, a bit rough holding forehead to the equipment, mumbles a bit, just appears to be going through the motions. his office is like a bunch of little robots that put you in a room, out of a room, in , out . and sometimes dont even share that youre supposed to go or come. staff who sets appts is better. plan about 2 1/2 hours for your visit, i ve seen some patients bring carry out
My Mother went blind because of him. He treats elderly people like cattle, won't answer any questions and is so arrogant. I wish I could go back in time and have been more educated about macular degeneration. This guy is a degenerate and a demon and continues to grow richer off of hopeless souls. I would give -0 stars but I couldn't write this if I didn't give it 1 star.
Very knowledgeable--he can get short at times but he's dealing mostly with older folks who can be trying. H e generall has a room full of patiemts so his time is pressed. He's down to earth when you talk to him and a caring individual.
he seemed to be distant for the reason I was seeing him for. He was talking in medical jargon and not being specific.
I waited six hours to see him to get a retina tear diagnosed and repaired. He was irritated, rude and impatient. The only reason I didn't walk out was because I had an emergency and no other options. Emergencies have to be the only reason why he sees any patients at all. Also, he rebuffed my questions on the latest laser technologies, which was probably a good thing for me because I wouldn't want a 70 year old working on my eye with a laser.
I had a similar experience to S in 9/2015. I was referred to Wyhinny for a possible retina tear. I had a 3:30 pm appointment and left the office after 9:30 pm. He was impatient and rude. I did not complain to him or his staff because I was at their mercy and had no other options because it was an emergency. When I asked Wyhinny about the latest laser technologies, he got mad that I questioned him and immediately rebuffed the technique. His defensiveness clearly indicated to me that he was not keeping up with the science. He was more comfortable with the stone age method of cryotherpy. It's a blunt method that doesn't require much precision, something a 70 year old could have success with. You just freeze half of the eye ball and you're pretty sure to get the tear. Actually, I was somewhat relieved that he did not use a laser. The thought of a 70 year old shooting a laser into my eye had me on edge for the first 3 hours of my 6 hour ordeal. There should be a mandatory retirement age for this profession. The only reason Wyhinny has any patients at all has to be because of all the emergencies and the lack of retina specialists. He's a stereotypical, crabby old man and puts a bad light on the entire medical profession.
Have been seeing Dr Wyhinny over 4 years for macular degeneration. Can't say enough good things about him and his staff.
My ophthalmologist recommended I see a retinal specialist for a possible tear in my retina. They recommended Dr. George J. Wyhinny in Arlington Heights, Il . My ophthalmologist made the appointment so I could get in sooner, as they were concerned about the possible tear in my eye. I arrived 15 min prior to my 12 noon appointment to fill out the necessary paper work. When I arrived, the waiting room was filled with about 30 people, with additional patients waiting in an over flow area in a hall waiting area. The majority of patients were seniors. (which will lead to my second point) The office staff appeared to be disorganized, squabbling amongst themselves. About 12:15, I was taken into one of the exam rooms for eye drops and a general eye exam before seeing Dr. Wyhinny for my noon appointment. At 1:30, I went to the front desk to find out to find out when I could anticipate being seen. The receptionist advised me that the office was a 2-3 hour wait office! I was floored by this statement. She said that this is how they operate their appointments. Shocked, and angry. I voiced my opinion that it was unacceptable and disrespectful to make people wait that long. If the office staff were smart enough to somehow predict their 2-3 hour wait time, they could certainly be smart enough to figure out how to be on time. My eyes already dilated, I waited. 2:15pm I asked again when I could expect to be seen, I was advised 2 more people were in front of me. When I was finally called to go to an exam room, I asked how long I would have to wait in the room, I was told about 15 minutes. At 2:45... 3 hours after I checked in for my 12 noon appointment Dr. George Wyhinny finally came Cin and introduced himself. I expressed my anger that I had had been waiting for 3 hours, and my astonishment that it was regular practice to wait that long. I also shared my feeling that I thought it disrespectful and unacceptable to typically subject his patients to that of wait. Dr Wyhnniny advised me this was not the office for me and offered a me referral card. During my wait time it was brought to my attention that they had forgotten a 90 year old lady in one of the exam rooms, her daughter went to the desk and asked how her Mother was doing, and that she had been in the exam room an extraordinarily long time They apparently had forgotten about her Mother in one of the exam rooms, and had to search room by room to find her 90 yr old mother. They didnt know which room they left her in ! Absolutely negligent! Most of the patients in this practice appear to be seniors, one can only imagine what it would be like to be forgotten. They would probably not feel comfortable speaking up about this treatment and are consequently treated with little respect or dignity.  At 69 years old, Dr George Wyhinny should have been through enough in his life that he would understand quality patient care This is the absolute worst experience I have had with a Doctor in my entire life. I am 62 yrs old, and will not be shy about speaking up about what is not right. It gauls me that this is an excepted practice by Dr. George Wyhinny. Rest assured my story will be retold to anyone who wants to hear about a doctor that doesn't care about his patients, and only the quantity of medicare bills he can generate Sent from my iPad
Very smart, experienced doctor. What he's lacking in personality is more than made up for with his skills.
I came into his office with impaired vision and I was very frightened. When I asked him a question he said "Do not interrupt!" I will NOT Be back and I will tell everyone I know what happened. My advise is call another Retina practice ASAP.
His knowledge about the subject is very good. He is well-groomed and professional. He is my favorite doctor.
Has absolutely no patience, was very rude and criticized me! I have never felt so uncomfortable in a doctor's office. I will never go back, and will not recommmend him to anyone!
This doctor screams at his patients when they disagree with him. Tells patients to SHUT UP! Horrible bedside manner!!
