Dr Hoeltgen is a competent surgeon. He is of flat affect, rushed, lacking compassion. Surgical follow up to reverse a colostomy was denied due to inability to pay.

I was happy with this doctor from the beginning. I completed my surgery and lost 200 pounds in a little over a year before I plateaued. I was on my way to an appointment. The only way to get to his office is on a one lane road going in each direction in Barrington. We were late for my appointment so I called the office and was told off by the staff. I was told that I have to get there on time because the doctor leaves at 5pm to have dinner with his family and because his family is upset if the doctor is not on time. We made it to the office. Let alone I was a little late, I gained some weight after I plateaued. Instead of helping me about my weight gain, the doctor yelled at me. That was the last time I ever went to his office. I have since stabilized and working now with my primary care physician to lose the weight

Don't know if I just caught him at a bad time or whatever but he is extremely rude. Rolled his eyes at me more than once. Wouldn't even directly look at me when I was talking, felt extremely judgemental. Just an overall horrible experience. Left in tears and felt extremely disrespected. The staff is nice - ehhh wouldn't say the same for him.

Dr. Hoeltgen did an excellent job in performing an intricate surgery. Timing was very important and he acted accordingly to correct a serious condition.

He took my issues seriously. He got me into surgery fast. He and his staff cared about me and my outcomes.

Dr. Hoeltgen takes the time to discuss and show that he truly cares about his patients. I came with a ton of questions and he never once showed that he was annoyed or didn’t have time to answer them. The main reason for not giving 5 stars is due to the fact that he checks his phone and text messages constantly while in the middle of a conversation with his patients. It’s not good bedside manner to be checking your texts while talking to patients. Never okay to be on your phone while talking to anyone.
