The Emergency Room doctor said I could be admitted to the hospital for dehydration or treat myself at home and I chose the latter. He said I should follow-up within a day or two with Francois, my long-time doctor. A couple days later my husband dropped by the office and asked his nurse for that appointment and advice on two medications that might be causing problems. She contacted the doctor and reported that he was upset that I had refused hospitalization, so he would not see me or advise on the medications. If I wanted help, he said, go back to the ER. The Emergency Room people said they were shocked, had never heard of a doctor refusing to treat his own patient or refusing to honor the ER request that he see the patient. One said what Francois did was "cruel." How helpless this 84-year-old felt when Francois said go away! Not sure the ER would see me again, I wondered if I'd be without any medical help. Things are better now. I have a new doctor.

A long-time patient of Dr. Francois, I have just gotten a new doctor. According to local medical personnel, his refusal to treat me during a recent illness violates three medical rules: (1) Doctors must never refuse to treat their sick patients; (2) A patient has the absolute right to refuse treatment and to choose among acceptable alternative treatments-- without retaliation from doctors; (3) When the hospital orders a patient to see the primary care doctor for a follow-up, the doctor must see the patient. During my recent visit to the Emergency Room, the doctor found that I was dehydrated and recommended that I be admitted to the hospital. However he or she said since it was mild, I could treat myself at home, so that's what I chose. My hospital papers indicated I should follow-up within a day or two with my primary care doctor, Andre Francois. That's standard procedure: see the doctor to see if you are doing OK and if you need further treatment. However, he refused to make the appointment or to answer two questions I had about medications. Why? Because, according to his nurse, I had declined hospitalization, so I should go back to the ER for the follow-up. Although the Emergency Room then did what Francois was supposed to, personnel expressed shock. Primary doctors, not ERs, always do the follow-up, they said. One said Francois's refusal to see or treat his own patient was "cruel," unheard of

My wife & I have been under Dr. Francois care for a few years and are well pleased with his service. I would recommend him to anyone needing a family Doctor.

I was looking for a good doctor and Dr. Francois fit the bill. He is very thorough and has great follow up. I feel very safe in his care.
