All the staff and Dr. Larry were fantastic. They provided excellent service and care for me and my children. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Dr. Larry and staff are great! I have been going there for nine years.
I've been struggling with my glasses from Nierman for over a month and a half. To their defense this is my first pair of progressives but they are just not right. I've been in twice and called several times regarding them and I just keep getting the run around. The last time I went in, I was told to use them for driving, take them off at work (I work on a computer), and buy a pair of reading glasses. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of getting progressives. I went to a different eye doctor and he informed me that the intermediate area was far too small (both too narrow and not long enough) especially since I work with computers (which I told Dr Nierman). He also indicated that the reading area is up far too high taking up almost the entire lower half. He was surprised when I told him that they had confirmed everything correctly. He was also surprised that Dr Nierman told me to basically only wear them for driving since I would never be able to get "used" to them if I only wore them by driving. But then again, I'd never get used to them because they aren't correct. I'm still trying to work with them to either refund my money or make these simply into a distance pair. I'll go get progressives elsewhere. I have no faith they can pull them off if they think the pair I have is correct.
I have been going to Dr. Nierman for years. He is very nice, prompt, and professional. You can tell that he is passionate about what he does. The staff is always very helpful with picking out good frames for me. I highly recommend Nierman Vision Center.
Dr. Larry Nierman has done a great job for our whole family for years. He has a good staff that does a great job. He always has treated us with the utmost care and professionalism. Thank you for being such an asset to our community.
Wonderful old style family business and heaven knows we need more of them. My family has been going there for many years and they are always pleasant and accommodating. We have used them for regular lenses and contacts. Prices are fair and they work well with our insurance.Only problem is Dr.Larry discussing his liberal politics while examining my eyes! No I don't think we should play nice with Iran I think we should bomb them into the stone age LARRY!Watch this youtube.com/watch?v=Cl1Y…
Sadly, Dr. Larry Nierman's unprofessional attitude and lack of courtesy was so bad that the fact they were probably medically correct still warrants a 1 star. I had glasses made by Nierman 6 months ago. For the last 6 years my prescription has not changed (though my glasses were about 12 years old and outdated, my contacts were updated). This consistency was partly due to my wearing rgp lenses. When I was considering LASIK, I decided I needed to get new and updated glasses to wear for a few weeks leading up to surgery. When I first tried the glasses on, I complained about some blurriness in lights and was told by the Nierman associates that this was because we did not upgrade to anti-glare lenses and because I wasn't used to glasses. Totally my mess up here - I should have tested them full time right then. When we decided to postpone LASIK until later, I had no need to wear my glasses full time until last week when I lost a contact lens. After wearing the glasses full time, the blurriness was still there and I was getting headaches with impaired vision. I called Nierman immediately to ask if they could see me, and was given an appointment 8 days away as the soonest they could see me. Since I couldn't wait 8 days, I went to an optometrist in downtown who measured my eyes and came up with a prescription that was significantly different than the Nierman measurement in Feb. My new optometrist explained my glasses from Nierman had a prescription that differed greatly than this and suggested I take them back to Nierman to discuss the issue. When I went in for my appointment at Nierman yesterday, the tech who received me was friendly and tried calling my vision insurance to see if they would cover lenses if the prescription changed. When my vision insurance said no, and that my prescription is only covered annually, I asked to speak with the doctor to see if he could explain what happened. It seemed unlikely that my prescription could have changed that drastically in 6 months and my husband and I wondered if there was a mistake made in Feb when my exam was conducted.Larry Nierman saw us (as he should have, considering I had to make an appointment to even come in, and waited 8 days for this) and proceeded to brush us off as complete idiots. However, when we questioned whether or not a mistake could have been made, his answers were full of contradictions. On one hand he said it was impossible that a mistake could be made because optometry is a science and it's not possible for prescriptions to be wrong. On the other hand, he said my new prescription from my new optometrist was not trust-worthy and must be inaccurate because it was so different from Feb. He said he wouldn't trust my new prescription and needed to re-examine my eyes, but then wanted to charge a full exam fee (it wasn't until the end that he finally offered to do the exam for free). He said that I should have been out of my contacts for 3 days before coming for my original exam to get a more accurate reading, but when I explained that no one ever advised this to me, his response was "It's not my fault you chose to ignore this." This is like a doctor blaming a patient for an inaccurate blood test due to not fasting, when the doctor's office didn't tell the patient to fast in the first place. He then said they make glasses depending on the use - basically if someone wears contacts full time, and needs glasses for only that hour or so before going to bed they don't require as accurate a reading, as those who are wearing their glasses full-time. I'm not sure that makes sense, but even if it does, I had told the doctor the reason I wanted glasses is because my current glasses prescription is outdated and I'll need to wear them full-time before the lasik procedureHis response was to complain that he had other patients to see and we were wasting his time. There were no other patients in the office, and I HAD AN APPOINTMENT. He was all over the place, pulling arguments out of thin air instead of calmly discussing this with us. When my husband tried to get him back on point, he held up his hand and yelled "I'm talking!" Seriously? His response was always to just blame me for waiting 6 months or telling us that eye readings are never accurate. Nierman was rude, condescending, hypocritical, and offensive. He's right that I should have come in earlier, but he's wrong to blame me for not being out of my contacts prior to the exam when no one ever advised me to do so and he's wrong to ignore my original (timely) complaint that was waved off as a result of not having anti-glare lenses. They're the experts and I put my faith in them and their expertise. In this case, that was my biggest mistake.
Got a call today that my glasses are ready. Went to b pick them up. They put my old lenses in the new frames. Now they have to ship out and I have to wait another 1 to 1.5 weeks. I explained their prior mistakes as well as this one. They did not offer a single concession, not even expediting the new lenses.
Went to check out frames for glasses about 3 weeks ago. After shopping around, went back to them for final pricing on a Thursday. I liked their prices and offering so proceeded to order. First, I gave them my Rx and my prior lenses. They said I had to come back Monday to see how close they could get on available lenses to my current lenses (it was a rimless frame). Why couldn't they do this that night? Second, when I came back the next Monday, I made my choice and asked if they needed anything else. I was told I was good to go. Then I got a voice mail the next day saying they needed my Rx (which I had already given) and information. Why didn't they collect all of this in my prior two visits? I couldn't get back until Thursday night. Then I was told it would still take two more weeks to get my new glasses. So they wasted at least one trip and caused a three day (20%) delay in getting my new glasses. Poor customer service.
I don't even want to give this place one star. The service is deplorable. Celia is rude and unprofessional. Sadly, she is the only one who knows about insurance. Dr. Larry Nierman is a terrible business owner who has no control over his staff and he is a hot mess. We had so many problems with my glasses that we had to file a complaint with Davis Vision and then ask to use another provider because Nierman refused to fix my glasses. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. THEY STINK!
