Aayu Clinics Primary Urgent Care's Online Review Report Card

I had an appointment with Shivani Patel at Aayu Clinics in Wicker Park, and for the first time in a very long time, I felt truly seen. The medical assistant (forgive me for forgetting her name) and Kaylah the phlebotomist were phenomenal. Shivani was incredibly thorough, asked thoughtful questions, listened without interrupting, and used empathy throughout our conversation. At one point, I actually cried because I realized how unfamiliar it felt to be treated with genuine compassion in a healthcare setting. As a woman of color, I’ve often felt dismissed or ignored by healthcare providers. That distrust kept me from getting a physical for years. Part of that distrust comes from an experience almost two years ago. After a bad fall where I busted my lip and, as I later learned, broke my finger, I went to urgent care. The white male PA who saw me audibly laughed at me and went so far to ask why I even came in. I left feeling embarrassed, gaslit, and questioning my own pain. I ignored it for weeks until I finally took X-rays at work and confirmed that my finger had, in fact, been broken. I am a surgeon so this is especially important. Experiences like that stay with you. They shape whether you seek care the next time you need it. So I want to say thank you, Shivani Patel. Thank you for restoring a little bit of my trust in healthcare. Thank you for showing that listening is part of treatment. Thank you for treating me like a whole person instead of just another appointment on the schedule. If you’re looking for a provider who leads with empathy and truly listens, I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic. Providers like Shivani make a difference, and they deserve to be recognized.

Three appointments, three botched test results. They make virtual appointments to go over results after testing and each time they have to reschedule because the results aren't in in time, they lost the results, they weren't able to complete them. Not worth the trouble. Go elsewhere.

This clinic has been so disappointing. In order to get any prescriptions/ meds for lab draws, they require you to come back for an in-person visit so that they can bill you for another appointment to explain. I had thyroid labs drawn in December (7 months ago) and they are now refusing to refill because they “need vitals” before a refill. ATA and AACE guidelines only require reevaluating dosage / refills for this medication ONLY based on yearly TSH labs or if the patient reports significant clinical change before then, so requiring vitals is yet another made up rule to bill the patient.

I really appreciate the care and attenteiveness from Grace and just the overall team at the AAYU CLINICS. They were literally listening to all my concerns. In contrast I felt unheard throughout the appointment at Rush they frequently spoke over me and undermined my reported symptoms and pain, attributing them solely to hormonal changes and improper bra support. This experience felt dismissive of my medical concerns as a Black woman, when so many doctors think that we are there for pain med or assume its in our head. They maintained a polite tone but had an underlying attitude that was unprofessional. Im so glad I looked up AAYU clinics because I literally felt heard and believed, im definitely transferring my care from Rush to the AAYU Clinics.

Highly recommend Aayu Clinic. Katie Coyle, NP is my provider and she has great bedside manner. Wait time at the clinic is great, even for walk ins! The lab results come back quickly, too. Staff are awesome!

The PA Shivani Patel forgot a lab on my annual wellness screening which forced me to revisit the clinic. Aya then proceeded to charge me for $150 for another visit in which I only saw a phlebotomist for a REPEAT blood draw. Aya is now requiring me to speak to my insurance and to their billing department which will take several weeks. Proceed with caution, they seem more money hungry than other clinics in Chicago and will make you work to get erroneous charges removed.

I’ll just share my experience and leave my bias out of it. They have been charging me a 125 deductible , while also charging my insurance separately, for years. They threaten to cancel your appointment if you don’t pay the deductible. However, the clinic itself is basically making double the money by charging both the patient and insurance. If you contact the clinic and call them out, they will of course stop doing it because it’s flat out illegal. I had to basically argue that my balance on the patient portal is 0 dollars. They also send the fake “deductible” payment and tell you to call a number that doesn’t even exist. You can say it’s my fault for not reading my insurance claims thoroughly. You can also see it as predatory medical practice. Seems highly unlikely that this is an honest mistake on their part (given the fake number provided on the payment, and how this 125 payment is not on the patient portal ever, and just sent separately as a payment link), seems to be a deliberate pattern. And a deliberate way to make money by taking advantage of loyal patients. Be wary and look out for yourself.

Ross was amazing! So personable and made sure I knew everything I needed to do and that I felt calm at all times. Would recommend this clinic to anyone and Ross specifically as well!
