List of Christopher J. Dewald's Reviews
Excellent great Doctor.I recommend Doctor Dewalt.
Very good and Caring doctor. Helped me so much with my back pain. Would reccomend.
Was Very impressed with Stephanie P.A. Also Dr Dewald gave me options to think about about instead of being told "cant just fix low back, have to it all" and my favorite " Just live with Pain" It was definitely worth the drive to see him and talk to someone who knows Scoliosis.Had back surgery couple months later even though I had problems, Dr. Dewald was very caring and took care of issues. Still have trouble with spine and Stephanie and Dr. Dewald are right there when I have concerns. After reading some of the other reviews, I can honestly say Dr. Dewald does not have a God complex. After what I have been through I definitely would have seen it. He has been caring and professional the whole time. Along with his staff and Rush hospital.
Saw Dr. DeWald for a second opinion. He was extremely thorough, professional, easy to understand and talk with. I would recommend him highly!!
Very good
My experience was sensational. Dr Christopher DeWald cares so much about me & my pain.I have had Six Major Spinal Fusions. My surgeries go back to when I was 29 years old, I am 76 years old now. All six of my surgeries were done by Dr. Ronald DeWalt with the exception of my last which was done by another surgeon in December 2005. Dr. Ronald DeWalt had retired & unfortunately for me, however, Dr. Christopher DeWalt was not at Rush at the time. Fortunately, he arrived in time to seal the base of my spine which the other doctor could not do. The other doctor had me lay still for approximately five days in the hopes that it would seal. My spine was leaking Spinal Fluid and I began to have a sack of fluid. Very much like Spina Bifida. I had a niece that was born with Spina Bifida. The other doctor performed a 2nd surgery and had difficulty in attempting to seal the base of my spine. Dr. DeWalt stepped in and sealed my Spine December 2005. What a wonderful save for me. Since that time, Dr. DeWalt removed six screws that had been inserted by by the other doctor necessary at the time, but one of the screws had become loose. Now, Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Dr DeWalt will be removing a bracket that was used in one of my many surgeries when the rods were extended. The bracket is causing terrible pain that travels down into my right leg. Dr. DeWalt is a hero in my opinion. I am not saying that the other doctor was a bad surgeon, but it was just a difficult situation at the time. That Surgeon had performed many, many successful surgeries so I would not deliberately give him a bad review. I am merely stating an unbelievable save for me. I am so grateful.
Dr DeWald was thorough and answered all my questions and explained the planned diagnostic workup and anticipated treatment. His sense of humor was refreshing. I was very pleased with the visit.
I can't say enough for the excellent care I received from Dr DeWald. Absolutely a top notch spinal surgeon!!! Also, all of his staff were very attentive to my care and all my questions as well!! Also the same excellent care at Rush University Medical Center!!! Absolute best of care, all around from the residents, nursing staff in the OR and in ICU and the orthopedic floor and the physical therapy staff. Highly recommend him and Rush especially if you have a complicated major surgery needed!
I will never again consult with nor recommend Dr.DeWald!!! My recent consultation involved a severe and very painful scoliosis condition and waited months for an appointment. He explained how brutal corrective surgery would be followed by approximately one year of recovery. Dr. DeWald then stated my age and nonchalantly said “God could take you home” by next year. He was dismissive and insensitive and never asked for my input. Ironically, he had just detailed a surgery that he had performed on a 71 year old woman (I am one year younger and in excellent health) whose scoliosis was definitely more extreme. Dr. DeWalt can definitely be diagnosed as suffering from the conventional surgeon’s condition known as the “God Complex.”
Navigating our medical care system can be frustrating, mainly when you're in pain. He and his team are great.... Spoke with me as a person that mattered and gave direction on a game plan moving forward.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
