List of Howard S. An's Reviews
I had been to other neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and pain clinics over the course of three years looking for help to relieve my lower back pain. No one in my area, central Illinois, could or would offer me help. They said the slipped disc and spinal stenosis wasn't severe enough for surgery. Skip to early 2021 and I referred myself to Midwest Orthopedics at Rush and requested that Dr. An look at my MRIs for a second opinion. He suggested physical therapy, and wanted to try an epidural, but said he would definitely consider a micro surgery laminectomy on my lumbar region. I did what he asked, but wanted a permanent fix. He agreed and two weeks later, I had surgery. It was the best thing I could have done. He explains clearly what is going to happen and answered my web md educated questions without blinking an eye. His team is great and I have recommended him to several friends already. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long.
Wonderful experience at Rush all around. Very organized and well run. I did like Dr. An a lot. He took his time with me. He listened. He didn't seem rushed. He answered my questions. I was impressed and pleased.
Dr. An has been taking care of me for 8 years now. I have a deteriorating back after a significant injury. He has been with me at every step through what will be my 3rd surgery.
I'm in recovery from having surgery on my back that Dr. An did. He did a marvelous job. One day after surgery I can walk without any help. However, don't expect to get much sleep because everytime I dosed off a nurse is knocking on the door to take vitals. 😄 but so far so good. 👍
Dr. An was very professional and informative, explaining my options in terms of treatment and the pros and cons of those options. I was also very impressed with his nurse clinician, Jaclyn, who was well versed and also empathetic. Overall a positive visit.
I am very happy. He was to the point, told me this was his diagnosis, what he recommends and next steps. I am very pleased with this doctor.
Excellent doctor and excellent staff, no complaints with anything.
About 20 years ago I went to Dr. An for "second" opinion. The first doctor told me I needed spinal surgery for my scoliosis in the very near future. So I got a second opinion. When Dr. An reviewed my scoliosis, and said (in my case) I should not have the surgery when I asked and should do everything in my power to avoid it and maybe I will never need it.... I am 66 (twenty years later) I still have scoliosis of course and I am older and weaker...but I have lived 20 years since relatively pain free and grateful..although I may need the surgery at sone point in my future, I am taking it year to year.I would recommend Dr. An highly and I trust him.
To be honest, the last visit with Dr. Howard An surprised me because it went very smoothly and on time . Dr. Howard spent a lot of time with me and explained to me my current back problems with my low back and explained very well type of surgery he will provide for me . I would strongly recommended Dr. Howard to other people.
I’ve been looking for a doctor I can feel confident in for quite some time and Dr An is him. I have bad back issues and all the other doctors just said basically live with it. Dr An is giving my a good option and I am feeling much better about my future.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
