Illinois Dermatology Institute's Online Review Report Card

I was refer by a friend for this place and was excited to go as this was my first time seeing a dermatologist. For some odd reason, I expected to be fully examined, maybe some blood work done. Instead, I was seen by a nurses assistance, who took photos of the area I was concerned about. Dr. Julia Kocemba came in, pretty much told me I had eczema and proscribed me s steroid cream that I had an allergic reaction to. I had 2 dark flaky spots on my hip and I have never had an allergic reaction to any medication before, that was 2 months ago and I am still dealing with the outbreak. I now have dark spots all over my torso, arms, and pelvic area. I went back to visit the Dr. and it seemed like she was more concerned about not being liable for the breakout than trying to help me resolve the problem. She proscribed to me another steroid cream and prednisone, but after my first allergic relation to the steroid cream, I did not want to take it and asked for another solution. The bumps and rashes inflamed when I consumed dairy, and alcohol, I was told to not take long hot showers or baths and to stay away from gluten. She also recommended for me to take more the the instructed dosage amount of Zyrtec and I that made me feel uncomfortable. My experience was just not good and I just want to get rid of these rashes and scars. It's been 4 months of trying to find a solution and nothing she recommended has helped. :( I won't be going back

Unfortunately, I had the same experience as others where they are now billing a full annual physical for a skin cancer check. As if I can substitute a dermatology visit for my primary care doctor's annual physical. This is becoming a common practice because the codes primary care doctors use had an increase a few years ago to value the important work they do in coordinating a patient's whole health. Most doctors will recode appropriately when your insurance does not cover, but after one year of corresponding with this office, trying to get calls back, and writing a letter directly to my doctor, I received no response at all until I indicated that I would write this review. When you google this topic, you find "It would not be appropriate for a dermatologist to report a code from the Preventative Medicine range because a dermatologist is a specialist. If a patient comes in for a 'routine' skin check, this should be coded with a problem-oriented E/M code." Once they finally called me back, they have declined to even extend to me the discount my insurance would have received had they covered. I paid them $150 since that is what my insurance covered in a similar situation, but they will not budge on the remaining $120 balance. Next letter is to BCBS.

Dr. Lewitt is excellent, the ultimate expert. It is so refreshing to be treated by such a distinguished expert as Dr Lewitt who is also very friendly and approachable. After decades of suffering with my skin condition and assuming there was no effective treatment, Dr Lewitt has given me hope for the ultimate treatment. All staff at Illinois Dermatology Institute are friendly, caring and professional, making each visit a pleasure.

A big shoutout goes to PA Andrew Mastro, who did my biopsy procedure. Talk about service with a smile! He answered all my questions with patience and kindness, and his friendly demeanor added to my overall excellent experience with the entire staff.

Highly recommend this spot. They're very professional and answers all your questions and concerns. My appointments are always on time and im in and out.

I had an appointment with Andrew Mastro to check my rash. He told me I’ll get my prescription shipped from a lab afterwards. However I never received the call from the lab and when I call them 4 times, every time their answer is my order is pending because of Andrew didn’t approve the AP or whatever authorization he needs to do on his end. Normally a patient should receive the call from the lab in 48 hours after the visit, however, it’s over a month, and I never receive a call about my prescription from the lab because the doctor never do his job on his end. Updates: I never receive my prescription. The bioplus pharmacy never get prior authorization letter from doctor. The whole visit costs you $200 after insurance.

Easy to get an appointment, process on arrival is efficient, and Dr Lewitt is very communicative and personable. You’re in good hands at this place.

I got the best chin and jawline filler from Julia. It looks so natural but also totally gave my slight saggy neck area some structure. Book now while you can!

Came in after a sun spot started to hurt. Wasn't sure what changed so decided to get it checked. Dr Mastros was awesome. He didnt think there was any cause for concern but recommended a biopsy just in case. He explained everything and told me next steps. Biopsy came back a few days later and luckily it was negative. All good.
