The nurses here are wonderful but my daughter just left here and because I didn’t agree with a medical decision and decided to file a complaint the attendant Katelyn Burguess try to lie and convince the staff that I tried to put my child in harms way so that she can contact DCFS on me. The sad part is you go to a hospital so they can help your children, terrified as a parent to have to experience something like this was horrifying for me. I’m just thankful that I know my rights and I was smart enough to make sure I never had a private conversation with the doctor because I sense that she had a high ego people. Please follow your first instinct, protect yourself and never have conversations alone.
My son was diagnosed with Tethered Cord Fatty Filum when he was 8wks old his pediatrician referred him to this hospital as it the "best hospital in town" They give me appointments that doesn't really fit my schedule due to work. They will give me the middle of the weekday and the next weekday. My husband&i try to work with our schedule but put our sons health 1st. Anyway since last year they been canceling appointments last minute. The 1st red flag was the 1st time we got an appointment my husband called off work that day I was luckily off. 2hrs drive traffic is terrible. We got there on time to tell us the appointment got CANCELED. 2hrs wasted my gas to tell us that. I told them why didn't they called me and let me know?! They said they left a voice mail i told them why a voice mail and not a dam phone called ?! And dont have no voice mail here?! I show them my phone and messages as they also said they "texted " i told them we wasted 2hrs gas and my husband's work day gone. They apologized and said they will figure out who did this mistake for proper training. litterly the 1st day i should of listen to my gut. My son was scheduled for surgery tomorrow 2 months ago we scheduled the appointment as they said they had it opened. 2 months ago my husband&i ask for does 3days off the days of my sons surgery and recovery days in the hospital again 2 months ago we requested does days off. Days before my son surgery they called if we can reschedule i said no we can't because I requested does days off 2 months ago already and my husband too . So they end up saying okay nvm we can keep that original date. Again a day before my sons surgery they called again that it needed to be canceled is like they really wanted me to say yes the other day they called ..they said because they had an "Emergency surgery that just came up" I think they were full of . They wanted to canceled the other day and they saying that a day before? And my husband&i lost does 3days of work the drive for 2hrs for nothing for the past year missing work to canceled. And they wanted to push a new date which is next Friday unbelievable I can't be missing work anymore and play their games. They are very organized ill take my son else where where they don't keep CANCELING one day before appointment or the days leading is going to cause me my job and my husband DO BETTER. I get Emergencies goes in but it's now our fault that we keep missing work and you guys messing ups the days smh. Not the best as they said
I would give zero stars if it was an option. Our daughter was on the neurology floor at Lurie in May for 3 days. They were not sure what was happening neurologically with the symptoms she was presenting with. I gave her history and our family history: autoimmune conditions in women on my side of the family-every female including myself. I also gave them her brain mapping testing/eeg testing from April 2025 that showed the cognitive slowing. It proved symptoms she was having. They symptoms our daughter was presenting with were not normal to her at all. This was not our daughter's baseline at all. Summer 2024 our daughter had anxiety and OCDS but her cognitive functioning was completely normal. May 2025 our daughter seemed like a dementia patient with short term memory loss and cognitive issues. That is what brought us to Lurie neurology. My husband also made it a point of telling the neurologists this started after her covid vaccine as well as having covid last summer. After that covid bout our daughter looked like she had a goiter(I have the photos) The swelling for her neck went down at the time of Lurie. The neurologists at Lurie gave our daughter the MRI, routine blood testing as well as other testing to send out, lumbar puncture. The only thing that came back slightly off was the ANA. The lyme test used at Lurie was NOT IGX. Because the lyme testing was not sensitive enough It missed the 2 different tick born infections in our daughter. The neurologists missed the autoimmune Hashimoto's diagnosis as well. We have since confirmed with 3 other specialists outside of Lurie that our daughter has both of those things which could have contributed to her cognitive decline. During that 3 day visit in total, the neurologists at Lurie sent psychologists up to our floor. 2 of them came to our floor. The psychiatrist and psychologist gave our daughter a diagnosis of, "catatonia." My husband and I were told by one of them that our daughter could, "have seizures and die," from the catatonia. They wanted to do the lorazepam challenge after meeting our daughter once or twice. I did not want to believe it but figuring this is supposed to be world class children's hospital and they know more than I do, my husband and I returned the following day prepared to do their recommendation of the lorazepam challenge. The psychologist/psychiatrist said, "we don't think she has catatonia and you don't have to do the lorazepam challenge. We saw her again." This was the very next day after telling both of us, "your daughter could die from catatonia." While it is true our daughter has been in therapy for a year, she has not participated in self harm in over a year. We are aware of any scars she has. Her diagnosis is anxiety and OCDS. That is it. We have proof of all of that from a therapist as well as seeing our daughter on a daily basis. After being released from Lurie, our daughter 's therapist who has established a patient relationship for over a year with her said, "she is not depressed and does not have catatonia." In addition, the day after being released from Lurie, my husband had to rush our daughter to the E.R. with Advocate due to complications from the lumbar puncture. The lumbar puncture performed at Lurie A month later, we went to a specialist with U of C/Advent Health. After blood testing, this Dr. found the autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well as the tbrf borrelia and another tick that bit our daughter. A pediatric endocrinologist (not with Lurie) confirmed our daughter's autoimmune diagnosis. A lyme disease specialist confirmed our daughter's other diagnosis. Both those diseases can affect the cognitive processes. Instead of finding this at Lurie, the neurologists released our daughter with SSRIS. Regardless of her history of having anxiety and OCDS the Drs. failed to find and diagnose the autoimmune Hashimotos and the TBRF Borrelia and other tick born/lyme disease related illness. There is a neuroimmunology dept. at Lurie. They could have helped our daughter instead of delaying treatment she needed. If I can help you one parent to another with my review then that is worth my writing it. Skip Lurie and go to Children's Comer in Chicago. Lurie might be great for some people but they failed our daughter and they failed us... her parents.
Came in here a few weeks ago after my daughter busted her forehead open at school and needed stitches and a concussion assessment. Got to the waiting room at 2:30pm and didn't leave until 11pm. I understand the concept of triage, but waiting there for over 8 hours to be seen with a restless 4 year old with a big open wound felt like torture. One of the worst experiences was after check in, someone from the admin office calling me twice to get my insurance info. Not sure why that couldn't have been done at the reception entry but I felt singled out and punished for being one of the (I assume few) of patients in there with decent health insurance thru my husband's employer. I'm giving two stars because once we were admitted, the staff was good but I'm not going to sugar coat it, it felt like a glimpse of what socialized healthcare would become and it wasn't good for those who have been paying into the system for decades and following the rules.
First and never again I swear! . goin to this children hospital Just few hours ago cause my daughter having a problem in the skin like.the skin problems rapidly spreading all over in her body. No sleep the one year old and 9months baby we waiting for to long 1030pm to 3am waiting! Thats suxks! I saw in my eyes some one the new people came after us they finished first. Never again there are not serious . So disappointed never again
I as overwhelmed by the excellence of this hospital. I have heard many outstanding reviews but still was in awe . The child centered philosophy is entrenched in their every action . What could have been a truly scary day - was calm and pleasant .
This was the greatest experience in a medical building I have ever had, I am 12 years old and I had an ear infection. At the Immediate Care they said I had no infection and said I should just wait until it gets better, my mother was like no, because straight out of the blue my ear was in excruciating pain. We decided to go Laurie children's and they were very nice. They gave me a blanket and nurished me with drinks. The doctors and nurses had good social skills and talked to me about stuff like the nba finals. And to top it off I got to take a nap!. And I felt way better.
they put my 18-year-old son collection for $15. I called six times to pay the bill and no one picks up the damn phone. I can't pay online because now he's 18. I love my pediatrician and I hate children Hospital! I have called 6 times to pay my 18 year olds 15$ bill. I can't pay on line because he has turned18. Everyone I call I'm on hold for at least 1/2hour. if I request a call back, they call back when I'm busy doing something else and can't talk . I called them when I have time to pay the bill and they don't have enough people to answer the phone and take your money. They put my son in collection for $15. He's an 18 year old kid trying to get student loan for college.
You never want to take your child to any oncology department, but when the need is there, Luries is the hospital that you want to go to.
spineless, denying affirming care to youth and even some adults before the executive order is actually anywhere at all. what's the point of being a hospital staffed with doctors if you all need your own spinal surgeries? I'm not seeing any functional spines in your entire staff, better get that checked out.
