Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women's Hospital's Online Review Report Card

I love my Dr. At Northwestern, but had a terrible pre-op experience yet again. Their biggest problems: NURSES. Anne H. A nurse on the 6th floor surgical floor has to be the rudest, most unprofessional and most bizarre I have ever encountered in a medical facility.Please look for Anne H. On 6th floor surgery floor of Prentice. If you see her, make sure you cackle in her face like she did the other patients waiting to go back for hysterectomies and procedures. Loud and obnoxious. She was combative and with an ugly personality.Prentice can do better.. I would watch out for Anne H. The heckling nurse who works with sick women. Not all nurses where capes and this one does not. Northwestern you can do better. Get Anne H. Off your womens a surgical floor.

I could not recommend this hospital more! I had the best experience here, from the moment I stepped into triage, to L&D, thru the postpartum unit. Ever single person we encountered and that helped my husband and I through the uncertainty of childbirth (our first) was incredibly sweet, empathetic, and knowledgeable.I can’t remember the incredible nurses that worked with us in triage but the ones in L&D and postpartum really stuck out since we were with them the longest: Mia was our first nurse in L&D, and then Annie and Marissa. When we moved to the postpartum floor, Ann, Christina, Bre, Sandra and Mary were all super attentive and helpful in transitioning my husband and I into parenthood! We didn’t want to leave!My ob, Dr. Dawn McGee, happened to be delivering at the hospital that day so it was icing on the cake! I would recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone.

Just had my third kid in this hospital few days ago, very bad experience.Came after my water bag broke. Arrived 3.5 hours before my baby was born. First be sent home because they didn’t take it seriously. Glad that I didn’t listen, because I already started to feel contractions and had some bleeding. I would labored my baby at home or on the way to hospital if I went home. But end up my labored experience not that much better. because I pushed my baby out in a room at the first floor (triage) without any nurse or doctor there. I keep called triage nurses during my painful contractions time but no one come by me. When nurses came, my baby already out. Super disappointed.2020 I had my second child there, I was happy for what they did. This time, No. I will not come back or recommend to anyone I know if I am asked.

The Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center this department needs more technicians like Janay. She should be showed every accommodation possible. She deserves an extra day off. She told me she was actually due to clock out, yet she took more time to care for me and I am nothing more than appreciative. Kudos to Janay. I wish I could say the same for the technician initials "D. I." She lacks compassion, care, concern, and customer service skills.

My wife started having painful contractions at 8pm on Thursday evening. Luckily I was not privy to this until 10pm which is when my version starts. I know I shouldn't focus on the male perspective but it's my truth and it fucking sucks lying in bed next to a woman going into labor. We tried to watch Breaking Bad and it was only the second most intense drama in the room. By 2am, it was clear it was hospital time. Every time she went to the bathroom she started to keel over and I would do that awkward slightly knee bent assist where I wasn't sure if I should catch her or if she actually would be happier to slowly get to the ground.We get packed up and in the car and I get very nervous. Imagine my relief when she punches in directions on her phone and I don't need to say out loud that I don't actually know where we are going. We get downtown quickly and should be right around the corner from hospital. This will be the only part of this review where I yell: fix your fucking maps app directions and get some better signs. We circled the place three times before realizing it was trying to take us down a one way street. My wife told me to go ask a cop but that was not happening. I got her pregnant really quick on our schedule so there is no way I'm undoing all that clout by stopping to ask directions.First stop was triage which was awful. I'm pretty sure they were waiting for her covid test to clear before taking us to the delivery room. This makes no sense because they didn't test me and she specifically told me I had to go to the delivery room with her. I won't talk anymore shit about covid protocol anymore. As she is throwing up in a little plastic bucket and cramping up in this little middle school nurse's office, I have a stroke of genius. I proactively (she didn't even have to ask me) wet a paper towel with cold water from the sink and put it on her head. Her reaction to the cold paper towel implies that I have never provided her with more pleasure. This is where I was at my best all weekend.Finally in the delivery room and it's epidural time. I've never seen my wife more excited than me to take drugs. They make me go behind a curtain where I google what exactly an epidural is. Within 60 seconds she goes from grunting "this baby better be fucking worth it" to a high octave girly small talk voice asking the nurse where she went to school and if she likes being a nurse. Everything was better for everyone after that. We go into delivery mode really quickly and our daughter is born early morning Friday. Delivery itself seemed pretty straightforward and they even had a little real-time contractions stock market computer chart that told her when she should push. Secret is out, girls... delivering a child isn't that bad. Once they cleaned all the gross shit off our daughter, I was surprised how attractive of a baby she was. I've seen a pretty fugly baby picture of myself so I had pretty dialed back expectations going into this.The next 2 days basically consist of us trying to sleep while people come in every hour to loudly tap on a keyboard and give crash courses on breast feeding. I always tried to appear attentive at first, but I'm tired and don't really understand how I'd possibly be able to help determine if a "latch" was made. Usually the nurses would catch me out of the corner of their eye starting to browse my phone and then all of sudden there was "something dad could help out with". Advice to new dads: just pretend to pay attention otherwise you'll end up bedside tickling your kids toes while some lady plays with your wife's boobs.The hospital has a pretty good food menu but since my meals weren't covered by insurance, I took a couple sabbaticals for food on the outside. I'll give some specifics at the end.The best part of staying in the hospital is sending your precious newborn baby away each night to the nursery so people you don't know will take care of them. If you take anything away from this post, tell your wife to (1) get an epidural and (2) kick your kid out of the room at night.I actually need to yell one more time. The pillows in this hospital are absolutely dog shit. I don't think there is stuffing or a cushion. I think someone just blew really hard into a pillow case and then zipped it up really fast to trap their hot breath. There are 12k births a year at this hospital. For 120k, you could just give every dad a My Big Pillow when they stay. Or at the least, maybe open a pillow and bedding store in the lobby. Then at least you can keep your goddamn bottom line. One of the best Hospitals in Chicago if not the best, I had to two stem cell transplants in 2016 at this very Hospital and I'm well and still here to tell the tale.

Got in with wife around 8pm. Wife was in a lot of pain, told us we were early. Gave us the option to go home or get another check, and told us there would be 2 hour wait. We waited…. Found out my wife was in labor…. If we went home we would have been screwed. Got to the delivery room, everything was ok until a midwife showed up out of no where. Said ‘lets break this!’ I was like huh? Its like 3AM im confused, and she breaks my wife’s water without asking for consent. This is against the law. Nurses told me thats their procedure, don’t go here as their procedure is to go against the law. Thank you doctor, who gave us a great experience for delivery. Post partum, room is dirty, water sink makes a loud noise, and guess what they gave us the room next to a nursery. Can’t rest as you can hear babies crying and doors slamming shut all night. Still here, will let you know what happens. This has been a nightmare for me at least. Not sure what the heck all the good reviews are about. One last thing I guess, told me my baby has to get antibiotics. No fever, nothing. Thinking they are either trying to cover up for the midwife, since artificial water breaking causes infections, or just want the extra money. Overall, get your stuff straight NW, you should care about your patients, especially newborns. Was trying to be nice this whole time too since my first child came to the world. If something goes wrong with my child. I will engage. So last day here now. Some nurses are great, some nurses aren’t. This place is bad at communication, and very chaotic. Stressful to be a new mother here. Also pushing 20 minutes, waiting for the nurse to discharge us.

My first grandchild was born here today. The group of professionals ‘The Dream Team’ is what I called them. They were awesome. Everyone was very knowledgeable, polite, cheerful, helpful and answered all our questions. The hospital was very well thought out with individual rooms, clean, beautiful, and well staffed. Best experience in a hospital ever!

I've only been here once so far, for my first mammogram. I've never been to a "women's hospital" before--or, actually, ever heard of one before moving to Chicago--but I know Prentice has an interesting history. The hospital is large, and the suite that holds the Sage Breast Care Center is also huge and had some good precautions in place for the pandemic. There's also a second area where you go to change and then wait to be called back; they give you a warmed hospital gown to put on and show you to a dressing room for changing. There are also tons and tons of lockers here, but they are not in use during COVID-19.The technicians are well trained--at least, mine was. She was professional, warm and friendly, and knew exactly what to do to get the images she needed. I didn't feel any pain and minimal discomfort throughout the entire thing; I felt like I was in quite good hands.
