I had to drive over an hr, several times just to go through the ringer with this guy.. I have a cartalidge injury on my right hip, due to fai. NOT my fault.. extra bone growth. He was extremely rude to me and told me a different surgery recovery story each time, which seemed worse. NOW, I have a knee injury, same side. Never had any knee problems before and from what I read, not treating the hip and unable to strengthen my legs will result in this. I had to have a shoulder procedure done and the day of the surgery he did the surgery I need on my hip to an older gentleman.. I’m only 36. Thanks for nothing.
he's done multiple of my knee surgeries and have always had good results. My whole family goes to him
I came to Dr. Thangamani after I was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. He recommended and performed an arthroscopic partial (80% so it’s not exactly partial) meniscectomy in July of 2022. Come November, I revisited him to express my concerns that I wasn’t healing. Since the surgery, nine months later, I continue to experience major swelling and pain, now back problems and overall lack of the ability to accomplish daily activities. The follow up visit 5 months after he performed the surgery, my follow up visit consisted of him listening to me across the room. He never asked to see my knee, he didn’t have me lay down and check the swelling, my range of motion, or ask where the pain is coming from. He had nothing to say other than he could give me cortisone shots. I told him those shots are limited so maybe I should try physical therapy instead? He said sure. It’s April now. After a month of physical therapy 3x a week I decided to seek out another surgeon at Rush. After another set of X-rays and MRI, my only hope now is a partial knee replacement . I am an an active person, only 54 years old. Thangamani went in and removed most of my meniscus, zero after care, zero follow up after a second visit. Rush told me they were surprised of the removal instead of choosing to repair after seeing my original MRI. He is a careless, heartless surgeon that treats patients with such disrespect. Please avoid him and Dr. Taylor should not be recommending him to you if you find yourself in the same situation.
I've seen Dr. Thangamani several times over the years and I could not recommend him higher. I always feel very welcome when I visit his office for what ever pains me. He is easy to talk to and explains things in a very straightforward way. What is so comforting is that for all the things I've seen Dr. Thangamani for over the years, he only has suggested surgery after every other option has been tried (that's not very common for an orthopedic doctor). If you have an issue with a hip, knee, shoulder or any other body part I would highly recommend you making an appointment with Dr. Thangamani.
It took me 3 years to write this review. The total experience has frightened me to an inch of my life. I had hip replacement surgery in 2018.(I am in my 50's). But after a brief in-patient hospital stay, I thought I would be so much better. Instead an infection developed. I went back post surgery for a doctor visit and so the Dr. said come back again in a day or so, which I did. Infection still there. Once again was given meds and told to come back yet again. Next, he said come back tomorrow. I did and was admitted once again to have a revision of the surgery. But this was not the end. The infection persisted and needed to have antibiotics administered into my arm through a tube they put in. This was to be done daily. I was in so much pain, and needed to be released, so I was sent to a rehab facility (glorified nursing home). I was so upset and stayed only 5 days and was released to my home. Still with so much pain, was basically confined to my bed for weeks except for visits to the infectious disease doctor. After about 4 weeks, the revision of the hip replacement was making strange noises, went back to this doctor and he said that the xray showed the screw was unwinding and if I could hold out for another 3 or more weeks so he can perform the 3 rd surgery to correct the problem. I went home and 2 days later the hip became dislocated and I was screaming in agony! Went to the ER and they admitted me. was scheduled for surgery 3 days later. Was getting prepped and I asked where is Dr. Thangamani, and the doctor in the room said he did not know. Well they had to use a "new" surgeon to perform this surgery, Dr. Alden. After I was back in my room, Dr. T came in and I asked him where he was? He said he was there but came late. This ended up being the corrected surgery. Was on antibiotics for another 7 weeks. And when I went for last followup with the new surgeon, he had told me that the infection was so bad that my leg almost needed to be amputated. This truly scared me quite literally. Never was there any more communication with Dr. T and his office never checked to see how I was doing. I am still not doing well. All this because this doctor was negligible. And just tossed me aside. Please - if you need an orthopedic doctor, look elsewhere. You might have a worse outcome than me!
I'm 52 and have gone to Dr. Thangamani several times for Cortisone shots in my arthritic knees (first the 1, then both)... within a day, there was no pain! I also have Fibromyalgia & this also helped my overall health. (When I went to a different doctor, there was so much pain for days.) I'm sticking with Dr. T!
Dr. Thangamani, in my opinion, is the most caring, knowledgeable, skilled surgeon I have ever known! The surgery he performed on my severely damaged rotator cuff and tendon not only brought back the full use of my arm, but I am now totally pain-free! This doctor is remarkable, and I'm so grateful I found him!
Dr. THANGAMANI took care of my knee surgery beautifully.2018 No problem. Spent ALOT OF TIME WITH ME .explained everything. He is by far the best. I’m now seeing him for other problems I fell and he is taken good care of me 2019 didn’t see a step and fell down. . I will recommend him to everyone. TRULY A GEM REALLY LOOK NO FURTHER he is great
I saw him for knee injury; he incorrectly diagnosed me with a meniscus tear. I saw another physician for a second opinion who showed me he didn’t know what he was talking about
I had my left knee scoped 10 years ago by dr t and it has never healed since! This surgery with him was the worse decision of my life. My knee was better before the surgery. But it’s his willful ignorance and inability to solve a problem that’s my biggest complaint. Six months after my surgery I kept showing him that my knee was extremely swollen with less flexibility and more scar tissue than before, especially As compared to my right knee. Instead of actually questioning his work and results, he just kept saying it will be fine and nothings wrong. I’ve shown the scar tissue to 3 other doctors and all have said that he did something wrong and my knee should not feel that way. 10 years later, I am still suffering! I can’t play any sports that require even the slight bit of jogging. It sucks! Stay away from Dr t!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
